I have owned just about every top-of-the-line Mac for the past 30 years (from my first SE to my current 2012 MacPro) and several MacBook Pros, but I have never purchased a SmartPhone or Tablet (or any iOS device). Sadly, my 2012 MacPro may be my last Mac workstation as I cannot buy into the new Trash Can concept and string wires all over my desk (not to mention buy all new everything to connect to it)! Since Apple also no longer makes a 17" laptop (like the one I now own), looks like I won't be buying any more Apple laptops either. If Apple still made a MacPro Tower and a 17" Laptop, I would have them on order today, but looks like they finally ran me off after 30 years.

I have been watching the 12.9 iPad Pro closely since its introduction and was waiting to see what the new smaller iPad Pro would offer.

I finally made my decision tonight and just ordered the 12.9 256GB WiFi Only from B&H with the Apple Pencil.

Since I am primarily a Graphic/Web Designer and Photographer, I plan to use it for drawing, web surfing, watching tutorial videos, and perhaps Photography with Lightroom. Since iOS is not a full-featured file system, doubt I could get much of my paying work done on it. Other than possibly an alternate way to begin sketches and the like, I can't see making any money with it - I see it more as an expensive consumer toy. I have lived my whole life without a single need for a cellphone on an iOS-app, so I think I can make it to my grave at this point.

We shall see!

I recommitted to the 12.9 after returning one.

This time I bought from Best Buy combined coupon and sale and got $225 off Pro 128 cell and just ordered a Smart Keyboard for about $110 after some savings.

I would have liked the true tone on the 9.7 but I will have to live without it for bigger screen.

What's your note taking app of choice?
I really like good notes. It seems like it's between that an notability for most people and I really think searchability was the most important to me which good notes does really well. One note and ever note seem popular too but I'm really liking good notes so far.

I got the 12.9" the Friday before the 9.7 was announced, and even after buying a Surface Pro 4. They really have different use cases for me due to the huge differences between a Windows and iOS device. The bigger-screened devices are so much more useful for multitasking, viewing media, and playing games.

I honestly don't know why people are having trouble with this decision. You either need/prefer the bigger screen or you don't.

Part of the difficulty that some are experiencing is due to how well the iPad does with so many things. With the iPad it isn't JUST a matter of screen size, but whether or not one wants to CHANGE how they use their devices. A change in screen size comes with it a change in HOW it is used.

This issue is greater with the iPad than with Windows and Android tablets, IMO.

Well obviously you can't have your cake and eat it too. A bigger screen makes a device bigger and heavier, and might affect how you use it. I thought that went without saying...

I cannot agree that the issue is greater with the iPad. The operating system does not enhance or alter physics. I've owned all shapes, sizes, and flavors of devices.

Sorry, perhaps I wasn't clear on that point. The bigger the screen of an iPad, the more/different possibilities exist. It's not about the weight and size altering the portability. In much the same way that the iPad offers more/different possibilities over an iPhone. Both devices are iOS-based, but the difference in screen size opens doors of possibilities that don't exist (or are as practical) with the smaller screen.

I have extensive experience as well. Going from a 8 to 9 to 12 inch Android tablet does NOT appreciably change the use cases. It's because it is not JUST the operating system (though it does impact usability) but ALSO the apps available.

Windows tablets offer poor tablet experiences not only because of the deficiencies of the Windows OS itself but also because of the lack of a quantity of quality touch-optimized Modern UI apps.

Still can't agree that Android's possibilities don't change just as much as iOS's at different screen sizes. I owned the Note Pro 12.2 for a year and a half and enjoyed all sorts of multitasking I couldn't do on my older 10" galaxy or Nexus 7.

I certainly won't disagree about Windows "tablets". That's the main reason I got an iPad Pro to supplement my SP4. The SP4 is NOT a tablet, in any way, despite its looks. It is a very good laptop replacement, however. The iPad Pro is an infinitely better tablet.

which size did you get to supplement the surface? one of the biggest issues with the surface is how hot it gets literally just being powered on.. it's a disaster.

couldn't agree more - for an ios app it was expensive - compared to an evernote subscription and the lack of privacy accompanying it - super cheap. great app so far, with a few minor issues
