They upgrade storage every two years so iPhone 5 should get 64GB, however after iPad stayed at the same 64GB, I kinda doubt it, they might want to give the iPad a storage lead.

But I'd say once iPad 2 gets taken apart it'll give us a better view on things, if it uses a single 64GB chip, then there is a good chance iPhone 5 will have it too.

no...that would be a very expensive iPhone

I agree with the original post. It is easy to envy larger storage, especially if you like to carry video with you. (tv shows, movies, etc.) I have a 32 full and would like to add more.

I don't think it entirely unlikely that the iPhone will stay right beside the iPad in the storage department. It seems like too much to hope for, but I think it would give Apple the upper hand in marketing.

I just checked this morning after downloading Infinity Blade, and I only have 2 gigs left on my 32 GB. I don't have anywhere near my whole music collection on my phone, as I have a lot of it in WMA and have been too lazy to convert/import. I would definitely buy the 64GB, even without being eligble for a full upgrade. To me that's worth it more than buying a separate iPad.

64GB is a lot but some would use it up and still look for more, kinda like those people that can't throw out anything and have stacks and stacks of useless stuff in their homes, i think there is even a show on tv about this behaviour its called Hoarders on A&E

I hear you, there are people that would like to bring their whole library with them everywhere but those who would want to kick in an additional $200+ compared to the 16GB model would be few.
Hope Apple comes up with a way to stream ones library from home to their idevice so we dont have to carry tons of media storage saved locally at all times.

Apple has never raised prices on capacity bumps before; I'm not sure why this would be any different. By your logic, there should even be a 32GB option. I'm one of then people who wants at least 128GB; if I'm truly using the phone as my iPod, phone, Internet, and mail, why shouldnt I be able to carry all my media on it. Hell, that just music, I could top out a TB , but that's a ways away. As far as puttin everything in the cloud, seems like pretty bad idea. Data caps and battery drain are the obvious ones, but let's say I want to listen to music on the train, or plane, or when I'm spelunking? It doesn't make sense to be reliant on an Internet connection to access your media.

Hey for me it fits fine on my 16GB iphone and I still got 3GB left.
I know not everyone is the same but 64GB for a phone is a little high. Its good to have the option but you sure wont be able to view/play/listen to all that media at one time.;)

So that works for you, buy a lower capacity phone. How is having more space a bad thing? I guess you're right though, it's not like you can buy movies directly on your phone, shoot hd video or download apps that are hundreds of MB. Because if I had a phone like that which I was using on vacations and trips I'd want as much space as possible. Also, why don't you put most of your books and movies in storage? You're never going to read or watch all of them at once. Oh what? It's actually inconvient t because you don't know if you may randomly feel like watching one of your movies during the day and it's inconvenient to drive to the storage unit and grab the movie and then drive back? Or I guess we could store everything on external hard drives, we don't need to be able to access all of our files at the same time, right?

I want 64 GB bad... but I feel that is as big as I will ever need. That would be plenty big for everything I will ever need on my phone. It would hold my audio collection @ 256 kbps, as well as a huge collection of my family photos.

I don't store video on my phone for 1 main reason: I rarely watch any video more than once. For watching TV on the go, I use my slingbox. For other video, I use the Air Video server app and store it on my home PC. I generally don't watch full length motion pictures on my phone, but if you do, Netflix is fine for that.

OTOH, I listen to music on my phone all the time, especially in the car. And when I'm driving in and out of cell coverage, I don't want to lose my music. Also - the sheer number of hours I would need to stream music makes the bandwidth an issue. In contrast, I probably only watch 1 or 2 hours of video a month on my phone - usually when I'm stuck somewhere waiting for somebody.

What on earth would you need 64 gig for? You can't even use your *phone as external storage.

I'd really love to toss my 5G 30GB iPod. Plus all the iphone stuff. That puts me at about 64 GB needed. More in the 40-50 range but 32 definitely isn't enough. I would have bought an iPhone 4 if it had a 64 GB model.

All this "cloud based" talk has me worried. I for one do not want my files based in the cloud, mainly because I don't think it's worth it. I can see all kinds of problems with data usage overages, lack of signal to pull your files from the cloud, even server outages. Plus, it's an extra service that you have to pay an additional fee for, no thanks. I'd prefer to have all my "need to know on the go" files with me which is why I bought the 32GB version. If there had been a 64GB model I would have bought that instead.

To each his own, but I'd prefer the dependability of having the information I need on my device, instead of having it based somewhere else that's going to cost me more and may or may not be dependable. To those who think that 64GB is overkill, I remember the day when 128K RAM was overkill.
This is exactly the point people forget about. You'll be paying to stream all your stuff from the 'cloud' and there will be signal issues as well.

No thank you. I want all my stuff on my own device, not 'out there' somewhere where I have to pay to get to it and hope I've got a good signal to boot. People just don't think these things out.

I thought the issue was with the availability of the memory chips in a certain size package. The iPhone only has room for one "chip", while the iPod Touch has room for two - thus the iPod will tend to max out at 2x the max memory of the iPhone.

Until they can get 64GB of memory in the same size package as they have now - and at a price we can afford, we won't see 64GB iphones or 128GB iPod touches...

Which brings up another issue that Interstella5555 pointed out:

Battery drain while streaming or downloading from the "cloud" will become an issue I believe, not so much if you have all your stuff on the phone instead of floating around in the "cloud". Not to mention potential security issues if someone happens to gain access to your login information. (Of course the same can be said about your phone if someone gains physical access to it)

So, logically speaking, 32GB is nice, 64GB is better, but I have a feeling that the day is not too far off that we see cellphones with 1TB of memory, and people complaining that it's not enough. With the way software is advancing and programs are increasing in size, I can see this happening within 5 years.

I doubt we'll see a 64 GB iPhone this summer. I'd love for it to happen though so I could upgrade to the 32 GB they'll have if true.

But judging by the other smartphones on the market right now, I think it's highly unlikely we'll see a 64 GB this year.

I'd go for 64gig if the screen was actually large enough to watch movies on. I've got over 4000 songs @ around 14gig, so not much need for 64gig otherwise.

With just over 33 Gigs of music, yes I would love to carry my entire collection along with apps, pictures, and podcasts all the time. I wouldn't mind spending an extra $100 to get 64.

Smartass and rude responses like this is the reason I have you on my ignore list for some time now:rolleyes:
Hey its a cellphone dude, why dont you walk around with a 2TB external drive instead, this way you can always have all your media with you at all times:rolleyes:
Get a life......

And your well thought out responses is what keeps me coming back.

Seriously, I said the 1 TB option was ridiculous, but it certainly won't be in 5 years. The iPhone has been out for 3 years and the memory has 8 times the memory the original did. Why is it unreasonable to expect a 64 or 128 GB phone, especially when the iPod Touch and iPad lines already offer devices in these capacities? As many have said, including yourself, it's not just a phone. If it was, why would I have the ability to play music, watch movies, or record HD video? If there's no point in carrying around 90+ GBs of music (I don't watch videos on my phone) why are there 160GB iPods? So basically what you're saying, while ignoring the other pointa I made, is that the phone shouldn't have more memory because no one should should need to carry more than X amount of media with them where X is.... What, 4GB from the original? The total amount of music you carry around with you? Again, I'm mainly talking about music, this doesn't take into account all the apps you can get, many of which are larger than 500MB.

lol agreed, i think almost all of us can fill a 500gb hard drive on a PC or laptop, that doesnt mean we need to carry it all with us all the time

There's a reason why the 32GB dont sell near as well as the 16GB model.
Most dont need to carry around that much "media" with them at all times and also dont see the need to pay an $100 for it.
And with the price of 32GB and 64GB modules I dont see it happening any time soon.
To a few people its important like you for example. But even if they do put out a 64GB then some will cry for 128GB and so on. When is it enough or is it ever? Hoarding like someone said above comes to mind:D
4GB today is small but 16GB is more than enough for most.
Its cool to carry around a TB of all my movies I have at home, music, pictures, videos etc..
But for what, in case I ever feel the need to watch one of them on my cellphone?
With that logic I should also carry around an airbed and a sleeping bag in case I get tired and feel like taking a nap away from home, my whole wardrobe and 6 pairs of shoes in case I need to change or something pops up. etc....

Well, using your argument, you should probably only need a 16 or 32 GB hard drive on your laptop, what could you possibly be storing in there that you couldn't just put on your desktop?

Storage for laptops is alot cheaper and obviously bigger in size than flash memory inside a cellphone.
Your arguments are running out of space here.:D

umm no a laptop is meant for long term storage, the iphone can very very very easily be loaded and re-loaded many times a day to have what you need for that day, week, month whatever
