It does more but it's still sold as a cellphone. ;)

So? whats wrong with having a 64GB iphone? its for the people that want or need that storage. if you dont need it, dont even worry about it. get the storage that fits you. why even bother posting in this thread if youre just going to conplain about a good thing? and its not sold as a cell phone, its sold as a SMART phone.

and to the OP, i think there is a very high chance of getting 64GB this year.

Nothing wrong with it.
I just don't see it happening with the price of flash memory and apple trying to keep it slim.
If it does go for it:)

Didn't know until I checked, but they're got 64g on the svelte iPod Touch, so they'll have no trouble adding to the iPhone line.

Doubt it.
32GB for a phone should be plenty of storage IMO, 64GB would get pretty expensive and not many would purchase it anyway.
The most popular model iphone is the 16GB.

I would KILL for a 64GB iPhone 5. But that's partially my 16.5GB music library and 9GB worth of apps' fault. :D
And the 16GB iPhone is the most popular one because it's the cheapest new version. Less people buy the 32GB because it's expensive, and even less people buy the 8GB iPhone 3GS because it's now outdated technology.

That's different.
The iPhone has no room for 2 32GB flash chips.

IT seems more likely that a 64GB flash chip will be released at a price point of the current 32, allow for a 64GB phone and 128GB iPod, just as we progressed from 4->8->16->32.

I love people's selfish "32GB is enough for me so no new storage needed" thinking.

300GB?! What is that... everything on the planet? Or is it all uncompressed flac?

I've got over 4000 songs on my iPhone and that's only 19gig or so and that's around 3-400 cd's worth.

Some people have quite a bit more. If you add in movies and photos, it's not uncommon for people to have 2-10TB of media. I have around 3.

I'm sorry, but you'll have to provide proof for that statement. Not doubting you, but a link would be helpful.

If you go look at teardowns, you will see that there is only one memory chip present. We won't see 64 GB until the cost of the chip goes down, or Apple decides to introduce a more expensive model.

An iPod touch has room for two memory slots, which is why it'll always have more space than an iPhone.

9to5 mac has an interesting story here suggesting that Apple was either thinking of having a 64GB model or will have one in the near future.

If I'm not mistaken, the phone has two slots but one of them is currently occupied with the "Phone" Chip, thus only allowing the use of one out of the two slots.

Thanks for the link.
Hope that's a real deal and not a fake phone.
Guess we will have to hope for more leaks until the official release.

All this "cloud based" talk has me worried. I for one do not want my files based in the cloud, mainly because I don't think it's worth it. I can see all kinds of problems with data usage overages, lack of signal to pull your files from the cloud, even server outages. Plus, it's an extra service that you have to pay an additional fee for, no thanks. I'd prefer to have all my "need to know on the go" files with me which is why I bought the 32GB version. If there had been a 64GB model I would have bought that instead.

To each his own, but I'd prefer the dependability of having the information I need on my device, instead of having it based somewhere else that's going to cost me more and may or may not be dependable. To those who think that 64GB is overkill, I remember the day when 128K RAM was overkill.

Your right, unless your lucky enough to have an unlimited plan any cell companies would kill us with data fees. It's ridiculous. They make billions and still want more.

Interesting.
Hope they do release it without jacking up the price too much.

As I mentioned earlier, Apple has never raised the price for capacity bumps (to my knowledge), they just replace the newer models on the existing pricing structure. I admit, I'm a little surprised that they haven't made this move already, but then again, I don't really follow chip manufacturing, so I can only imagine we've still got some time to go.

True.
Hope they do but I think the 64GB flash memory is still up there and short on supply.

I have better things to do bud.
You don't have to believe me, research it yourself and find out;)

I don't think making the phone slimmer ( Which Apple tends to do) will magically make for more room.

I honestly don't think the next phone will be any slimmer, the 4 is already slim enough for most people. Still, no one knows what the future holds,(unless you work for Apple) which was my original statement.

Hey talking about a 64GB iphone I came across this article on Iclarified.
Seems like maybe Apple has been testing a prototype i4 with a 64GB chip. Or its a scam or a fake.
Interesting though.

iPhone 4 "Engineering Prototypes" with 64GB of storage space are being sold in Hong Kong's grey market.

According to Unwire.hk, this suspicious 64GB model has started selling in Sin Tak, the greatest grey market in Hong Kong, and the sellers claimed that these are engineered models and available in small quantity. Interestingly, the back of the phone states iPhone XXGB! That reminds us the leaked prototype last year, the one Gizmodo bought it. It also states the Model no. as XXXXX, and the FCC ID as BCG-XXXXXX. On the screen, you can see is indeed a 64GB capacity and the model is 995-6049LL. And the phone is not locked!

It's unclear if these are really prototypes or a scam by the seller.

One thing that makes me wonder on that pic though is how is the Capacity listed at 59.1GB and Available is listed as 58.8GB
So the iOS on the iphone 4 only takes 0.3GB but the 4.1 ipsw file is 624MB

Interesting! Maybe it's a stripped down test version iOS?

I would love it simply to push other manufacturers to add more GB in their phones. Only Apple and sometimes Nokia (ie N97) are generous with onboard storage. Sometimes I see phones with 8 and 16 GB. The Pre has no expandable memory slot.

I personally am content with 32 GB. I have the 32 GB iPhone 4 (technically 29.1) and still have 7 GB left. I am not a pack-rat. And if I run out of space, the first to go are videos and games I already beaten. Vids take up alot of space esp in 720p and offer the least replay value for me. I have plenty of vids I downloaded from YouTube that I can always stream. Cloud-services is the future. But still, my media can take between 16-20 GB, so 32 GB being more standard would be nice. A 16 GB is really on 14 GB. And if other phones offer only 16, I hope it has a microSD slot. The 16 GB cards are coming down in price that a $100 difference between 16 vs 32 GB model is just wasting money.

i call fake, why would the photo just surface now still with 4.1

I think the next iphone will have 64GB. They missed increasing the storage size once already with the iPhone 4. Would be blasphemy if they kept the same size storage 2 years in a row. They probably will make room for the A5 instead of extra storage though.
