Were there massive lines for the 6s? I know it's called the 8 but given the tic-tock cycle Apple is on, this really is an S launch.

Ever since they have pre-order on deck, the lines got lesser and lesser. Obviously around my area 8-10am it was busy but after that it was quiet af.

I am going to make a prediction. The Iphone X won't have that big of a line neither, except for scalpers trying to sell the phone overseas. The smart phone craze is officially over, there is nothing exciting that Apple will offer with the X except poop emoji's.

Did you know the Note 8 officially released earlier this week?

Went to Apple Store in Austin this morning at around 8:30--a few people in line, and Apple provided bananas, bottled water and granola bars. Was able to get a SIM free Gold 64 with no problem, and was in and out in about 20 minutes.

Sorry your going to be wrong the iPhone X will sell out within minutes and people will end up standing in lines. The X is the phone people are waiting for. Even in the used market there are less iPhone 7/7+ for sale, everyone is waiting for the X's Pre-order.

I don't think they will have the X for sale at the Apple Store on launch day. It will only be sold online for Pre-order which after one minute will have a one month backup at 12:01. This is the way Apple will meet their deadline even though they are backed up. Only a handful will get their X on release day.

Looks like they aren't even selling the 8 256gb today at any Apple Store.

I share this same opinion.

There will be a line, just not like weve seen in the past.

That is true, but people will still stand in thinking they may have a chance to get one. Also I do think if your within the first 5 minutes of Midnight you will get a chance of Launch day past that your out for Launch day. Besides not everyone Pre-Orders right at Midnight, I have seen this as one year I went to my carrier store to Pre-Order in the morning and people were lined up, as it seems when I talked to them they like to Pre-Order in Store.

I work at Best Buy as the Verizon rep and we've had maybe a handful of folks actually asking about the iPhone 8, let alone preordering one. The overwhelming majority of folks are waiting on the 10. The 10 launch is going to be pure craziness straight out of black Friday hell. I expect lines and possible fights
I'm safely pre-ordering from my cozy home, with my 3 iPads laying with the store app open on them 🙂

There will be waves of lines, There are a lot of people who have been waiting for a new iPhone and these people are ready to buy the X. If apple says that there won't be inventory in stores for launch day then they won't line up.

I was told by a Best Buy Rep that if One was to go in the Morning of the 27th be one of the first to Pre-Order that one can get a phone for launch day, as the Retail stores will get separate inventory. Is that true ?

Went to my local best buy this morning - I was third in line and one person in front of me was there for watch series 3. I preordered but they did not have my phone yet and they told me they are getting 3 large shipments in today.

I went to the Stanford Shopping Center, Apple store in Palo Alto, California at about 830 this morning for my 9 AM appointment. All three doors were open with 3 to 5 representatives at each door and either zero or one person standing in line waiting for an appointment.

Inside the store was equally empty with nobody in the front section and about 1 to 2 people at most at each table doing pick up order of either a phone or an Apple Watch.

I think one of the most telling indications of attendance was that at 9:15 they still had the entire coffee center set up, with coffee and fruit and yoghurt parfaits and granola and plenty of sugar and milk to go around.

Normally the stuff is gone in the first 15 minutes

Granted, this place is a tech hub and as close to mecca for Appel fanboys as you might find, all of whom might be waiting for the X and the rest of whom probably ordered online.

I’m not sure about today, but the Lenox Mall Apple store in Atlanta was a zoo yesterday. Lots of people buying iPhone 7, including myself.

Should have waited until I’m back in Tampa tomorrow, because Atlanta sales tax was 8.9%!

I believe that to the vast majority of the masses out there, they don't care about upgrading to the 8 or the X. Most of them are cruising happily along in their current iPhones that work fine and do everything they need: browsing, Amazon shopping, email, iMessage, Facebook, and Twitter.

I think the days of the masses giving a crap about new iPhones are over.

Yes, there will be constrained availability for the X, but I think that will be due to a supply problem not a demand problem.

this!!

Besides the Apple freaks (including myself) here at macrumors and the iPhone and Apple Reddits, I truly believe the need or hunger for yearly upgrades are really gone.

I guess if you have any iPhone between the 6 and last years 7, the mass can perfectly fine do all their daily stuff (incl photo shooting) on their iPhone for the next 2 and/or 3 years to come.

From my experience, the masses never really cared for upgrading to the latest iPhone every year. Most just upgraded their phones when they were having problems with it and they're upgrade eligible on their 2 year contract. The difference is there were a lot of people who were just getting their first smartphones before while now, I think majority already have smartphones that still work fine.

Went to AT&T at 7, they open at 8. I was the only one there when they opened and they had about 15 employees there. Started sending people home. I was out in 5 minutes.

We must also start considering income levels and the price of the iphone. To some, they are just not affordable anymore or their current iphone doesn't need to be changed. Times are changing.

Which is why it’s rarely worth upgrading a phone that’s only 1 year old. Unless you have a desperate need for wireless charging, there’s no reason to go from a 7 to an 8. Coming from a 6 or older though, I think it’s a very good upgrade.

Yeah and anyway you can add wireless charging with a cheap little pad that fits between the phone and case
