No line or crowds at my job today. I did get to play with the new iPhones tho 🙂. Like I said, the majority are waiting on the 10. I've had customers flat out tell me that. Even tho it's expensive, the 10 launch is going to be insane. I expect lines and retail madness. This is arguably the most anticipated iPhone ever.

You may not know this, but your fueling my thought of picking up an 8 tomorrow after getting some hands on time with it. What are you switching from?
What happened to x? Lol

I wonder if this is how generally the libes are at the moment....i'm sure some stores are busy.

Really agree. This years iPhone launch is very disappointing (and I’ve owned petty much every model since the 3G). The 8 isn’t much of an upgrade over the 7, and the iPhone X just screams “douchebag phone” (for people who just want to show off they have more money than sense, so they can scan their face and make themselves into poop emoji’s). Yep, I’m sure the X will sell reasonably well, and if people have that much money to blow on a mediocre upgrade, that’s up to them. Would be better if people saved their money and did something good with it, like donated to the people in Texas, Florida, Puerto Rico, etc who’s lives were basically destroyed recently. But, I’m sure they will prefer to spend it on this thing hoping it somehow makes them cooler (cause we all know they will show it off every chance they get, hoping people ogle over it). Of course, that’s when they are not doing other douchey things like watch the Kardashians, while shopping at Whole Foods, before going out to eat Organic Vegan Vietnamese Pho...

But, I’m also not naive. Their money, their iPhone Douche...errr...X.
I felt something was off this year.

My store which is in a mall was pretty busy. I had a hiccup with store pick up that dissuaded me from getting the Watch. But I did get sim free 8 in gold and 8+ in silver

Not sure why people thought that subsidies gave them a phone for $199. With the two year agreement and plan amounts, they were paying for the full amount for the phone anyway. More if they kept it after 2 years. Now it's just more transparent

Not really true.

When phones were given for $199. Your monthly price was the same regardless if you got a new phone in contract or not.

With that in mind. $199 was the total price you were paying.

Out of contract price per month for example $135. In contract price, $135.

The price per airtime was always the same regardless of contract status. Same for data.

True. But that’s because the monthly cost of a new phone was baked in to the monthly service cost vs what the carrier could actually provide service for. They assumed everyone was getting a phone, so we were charged as if we were. If you didn’t get a phone, you were getting royally screwed in monthly fees. But you are correct, that there was no way of getting a lower monthly service fee if you didn’t get a new phone. So, with that said, it made sense to always get a new phone, and never be out of “contract”.

When I went at 3 pm. There were only a small line like 4 people but it went pretty quick as there were a lot of Apple staff out there.

I went around 4pm in Austin, and there was no line and tons of employees. I got helped right away and walked out with a sim free 8+ minutes later. I had pre ordered a space grey one which is coming Tues. but after seeing them in person I decided on the gold instead. It's really nice looking IMO.

My local Apple store had 4 employees outside and an area in front of the store cordoned off: 0 customers in line.

I just got back from the Palo Alto University Ave store. There was literally a line out the door at 7pm!! I had to wait 10 minutes to get my phone, even though I had a preorder / reservation. HUGE volume, iPhone 8 is selling really well.

Showed up at about 8:15pm at the Apple Store in the Oakridge Mall. About a line of 30 people to buy phones. Kind of surprised given what you read about online and that it’s pretty late in the day.

Not sure about the 8 but reservations for series 3 watch were booked till tomorrow evening. There was a line of about 8 people at 8:30 PM.

No lines but not sure X willl be the huuuge hit like past releases were. Most casual iPhone fans won’t spend 1000. But the crazy fans will

Even if you didn't have customers telling you they were waiting for the iPhone X, I think it's fairly obvious that most are waiting for the iPhone X regardless. And the reason being, is that we've seen the same four year design for how many years in a row now, where others are ready for a change.

Yeah. I mean the design of the 8 looks rather old in comparison to the likes of the 10, Note 8, and Galaxy S8. Plus the 10 has the awesome OLED display with HDR support, among other things. Despite what some on here are saying, the the iPhone 10 is gonna be a major success and make apple a crap load of money. This is the most anticipated iPhone launch ever. Like I said, I expect lines and out right chaos. Preorders kick off in just about a month. Can't wait!

why is everyone thinking that because there are no long lines at the Apple Stores around the world, that all of the sudden everyone is waiting for the X?

We are talking about a $1000+ smartphone. Its not a pair of the latest Nike shoes 😉
Ever thought people are either perfectly happy with their current iPhone or buying a mint 2nd hand iPhone 7 or maybe, just maybe, ''a few'' people think more then €1000/$1000 for a phone is plain ridicilious for them personally?
