I've been amazed how good the battery is on the base iPhone 16 (even better than the pro). I can't imagine how good the battery is on the 16+ !
The problem with my iPhone 12 was that the battery was only 2,812 mAh. After a few years of use, the battery charge level would fall off the cliff in daily usage. Even replacing the battery would not have improved things much.

No, even by conservative estimates, iPhone sales from 10 years ago are way up, and it’s not small percentage change. Apple by estimates unit sales were in 225-250 M range, a decade ago it was around 125-150 M. The revenue is 2-2.5X now compared to 2013-2014.
Like I said a decade ago, the smart phone market wasn’t matured or saturated now. People may not upgrade often but over all smart phone and iPhone market is much larger than a decade ago. It’s just that newer models as percentage will have less share in the bigger pie.
Ok, i understand that you don't believe the market analyst numbers, but how about Apple's own SEC filing for 2015 (search for "unit sales"): https://thequarterly.org/sec-filings/aapl/2015/10-k.html

Apple themselves reported 231,218,000 unit sales for 2015 - exactly the same range you claim they are currently selling today.

Unit sales for the following years, again from Apple's SEC filings, show flat numbers

2015 231,218k
2016 211,884k (link)
2017 216,756k (link)
2018 217,722k (link)
2019 - Apple stop reporting unit sales

I think 60hz and maybe one less gpu core / less beefy a18 as non pro variant are doing wonders for the battery life on regular/plus models

Alternatively, consumers who choose to purchase non-pro models are not as enamored with their phones. So we are not constantly watching social media or constantly taking photos & video or posting continuously about every little thing we do or see. And as a result the battery lasts longer

That sounds good but I’ve been really glued to my 16+ and the battery life has still been brilliant

I’ve been “stress testing” it and it continues to blow my mind a little bit compared to what I’m used to and even was expecting

If anything I was being shy on usage when I had my 16 pro to justify “it not being bad” but didn’t hold up to scrutiny .. for me

I spent some time in the Apple Store comparing the 16 PM and the 16+ and I came away pretty impressed with the 16+.
The lack of 120hz was noticeable for me (scrolling text being the most obvious in a browser).. but it's only when you try and read it and scroll simultaneously. If the text is static.. no difference. Im sure Id get used to it. My Studio display is 60hz, and I use that all day without any issue whatsoever.

The 16+ cameras.... 2x crop zoom is good enough for me. Not sure I care too much about 5x, and definitely do not care about the new UW on the PRO that people say still can't capture enough light. I hardly use the UW lens. My current phone doesn't have AOD and not sure I need it/want it. I prefer how Android models do AOD, not just a dim screen like Apple's implementation.

The most noticeable difference is the weight. Very much in favour of the 16+. The 16+ is also a much more beautiful phone than the pro as well (if you care)

The main issue I have really is that the 16PM is £200 (UK) more than the + for say a 256GB model. That's not a huge amount for the extra stuff (zoom lens, 120hz, AOD display. Probably would not notice any of the other stuff like CPU, faster USB etc)

Still undecided to be honest. I have a 13 Pro at present which has 120hz, but Id like a bigger screen. Getting a 16PM is £1200 and the 16+ is £999. Add on Apple Care , case, screen protector ! (Ive always used AC it so worth it for me), and the 16 PM is starting to scream 'how much ??!!!' which makes the 16+ a possible option to keep costs down.

Or I just keep on going with the 13Pro which is in mint condition and see what Apple comes up with next year.
Had the 16 Pro and returned for 16 Plus - I prefer the lighter feel better balance of 16 plus
Screen looks slightly brighter or maybe more contrast ? On the pro but the plus is good enough
Very much better battery duration on plus vs pro
Less heating up on plus
Nice to use slightly bigger keyboard - less typos on plus
Actually plus not as noticeable carrying in my pocket as the pro
For photos only difference I see is zooming to x5 on plus is slightly less sharp than on the x5 take lens on pro (which is not zoomed)
Don’t use much video so. O difference to me there
Either phone is very good just my preference for the 16 plus after years of liking smaller phone. Especially the 13 mini definitely staying with this one now. But don’t make it any bigger in future !

Fascinating this, since they have the exact same weight and the plus not much thinner.

I think you make a good case for the 16 plus, it really comes down to maybe how much you prefer pro features, better ”one-hand handling” vs battery life, bigger screen and in hand perceived balance (top heaviness for example). I have the 15 plus as a work phone, and compared to my 16P I’m definitely impressed by it.

I've pre-ordered the 16 Pro Max Blindly [coming from 11 Pro Max] and never actually held the 16/16+/16Pro in person before picking up the phone because i was flying out of Australia the next day and had to get it all set up quick before.

Held the 16/16+/16 Pro in singapore when i re-visited an apple store. The 16/16+ felt way too light and the aluminum didnt feel as durable/better like last time [think 8 Plus, XR...] so I got put off by it. Which is why I was okay with parting extra for the 16 Pro Max [given the battery life is the best]

that said... normal people who are regular/casual users, who are on a budget i'd say the 16/16+ is more than fine.

it has gotten more perks and upgrades which unlike last time the pro's used to 'have it all' but now the gap is thinner and thus not as substantial to justify pro often for many users blindly without considering their needs. obvs if someone wants premium titanium, cant really stop them... right? XD

Even on my 16 pro max i sometimes run Low power Mode whilst at work [cant use phone often] = dumbs down screen to 60Hz or slightly worse... to extend batt life and notification reduction. in some cases the 16 Pro Max can get me nearly 40 hours before needing to recharge on a normal work day with some use after hours.

What happens if I turn on low power mode on 16 plus as it only has 60 Hz refresh rate ?

the screen wil go into 640x480 VGA resolution, youtube and games will stop working, network connection will go back to 3G.
Correct. Don't forget that the bitrate on phone calls is also limited to 2 kbps.

If I was to get a new phone I might go with the base model. It’s nice that it finally feels like the base models aren’t treated as an after thought. It feels like the 13 where the base model is still fantastic and the pro models are just nicer versions of the base models with extra camera features, a nicer display, and more premium materials. Plus the colours on the base model this year are 🔥

I’m currently on the fence about going from my 15 pro max to a regular 16. I was on the fence a while about going to the pro max, and I can’t say I don’t love it, but I also really want to go back to a smaller, lighter weight device. I didn’t go with a regular model last year because I didn’t want to lose my macro photography, which I actually use fairly often, but now that they have macro on the non-pro phones, I’m super tempted even though my plan was to skip this year’s phone.

Moving to the base 16 from the 15 pro max is not a smart move at all.

Sounds like this should work fine for you, I am tempted myself actually to downgrade to the smaller size as I mostly use my tablet and PC.

I am enjoying my iPhone 16 256GB in Ultramarine that I purchased here in Saigon (Physical SIM slot, woohoo!). I wanted something smaller than my 13ProMax but I was bored with the Pro colors this time around, so I went with this. No regrets.

I have exactly the same :) though now I look very carefully I can notice the 60hz when scrolling. 😱😱😱

At home I almost exclusively use my iPP, other than at night when I do scan Instagram before bed. I know I’d miss the size of the screen - just thinking the smaller, lighter weight device would make up for that. IDK

Took me a while to get on the pro max train, and while I HAVE gotten used to it, I know I’ll never get a newer pro max because it is only getting bigger. Going smaller is inevitable.

Any idea of battery life in 16 vs 16 plus in real life - if decent I could be tempted a

Have never and likely will never buy Pro or Pro Max model. The camera stuff means nothing to me. I wish the base models had that 120 hz, but it’s not a dealbreaker to me. The Plus models are battery behemoths. My 14 Plus at 2 years old is still super impressive battery-wise. I’ve been kicking the tires about downsizing to a standard iPhone, but geez… for $100 extra, you get a fat screen and a heck of a battery.

If you’re not shooting video in LOG, you’re not using one of the defining, separating features between base and pro iPhone. No LOG, then get the base model iPhone, which makes much more sense for just about anyone.

So annoyed! I really wanted the regular 16 (coming from a 14 Pro) for the weight in hand feel and I was finally able to get out and see one today. Unfortunately, I do notice the lack of ProMotion. Oddly, I do not notice the lack of ProMotion on my iPad Air……part of me almost thinks they are artificially limiting the display on the new 16.….

I guess I am going to skip upgrading this year….even though I have a chipped screen in all corners. Hopefully the 17 finally brings 120hz. I just can’t convince myself that going from a 14 Pro to a 16 Pro is a worthy expense since my trade in is worthless to help offset costs.
