I honestly like it - matches my gold iPhone and iPad... but i will go with SS (the one i really want) next time.

This is my first Apple Watch ; I could have easily bought a SS Series 2 but I was not sure I needed a smartwatch so I bought the mid range model (Series 1, 42MM, AL)... just to be safe.

I initially added a Space Grey into cart, but everyone I knew who owned an Apple Watch had a Silver or a Space Grey one, and I said what the heck and swapped it for a Gold one + a Black Woven Nylon band. The combo looks nice IMO.... I don't even use the Cocoa Sport Band, the one that came with the Watch.

Anyway, now I'm sold so I will invest in this product line in the future.
The new CPU is fast enough, don't really need waterproofing and I think I can squeeze 2 years out of it.
i'll upgrade to the 4th gen, in 2018.

Absolutely everyone of these pictures show people purchasing the wrong size of watch relative to their wrist size ... which tells me aa awful lot about those people who bought an AW.

I like the Pip Boy Wallpaper. Nice.

If you want it...

I own the biggest Apple laptop (15"), the biggest Apple phone (Plus) and soon the biggest iPad (currently on Air 2 - waiting for the 2nd gen Pro b c I never buy first gen).
It was only 'natural' for me to buy the biggest Watch available.

Is the screen always on or only when you raise your wrist? :p
Heh!

It's very difficult to see at night (it has luminous strips down the hands and little pips outboard of the diamonds, but it ain't much!) and it'll run out of juice if you don't wear it (pretty much the opposite of my AW, now that I think about it), but it's good for those days when I want to disconnect from tech and have a little fun.

Any photos of this please?

Not yet mate I am due to get it on Tuesday but am away with my work until Wednesday. I'll be sure to put a picture or two up once I am back. Just browsing Amazon and Etzy at the moment for alternative straps too.

I was quite lucky getting the watch as I have been watching the John Lewis website for the few days with it saying 'out of stock'. When I phoned up they said possibly the end of January, then out the blue it said '1 in stock' so I just clicked buy as quick as I could lol. I wanted to buy through JL because their customer service is better than Apples and they offer a 2 year warranty as standard. For an extra £25 you can have accidental damage cover for two years too. That's better than Apple Care.

I think I got a good deal, just need to see how it fits in with my watch rotation. :)

I've almost bought this Watch several times but bottled out at the last minute as I have a stainless steel and space black already. I am very drawn to it though, like a magpie! Maybe I'll just grab a series 1 version of this at some stage.

Yeah I fancied the gold as all my traditional watches are stainless. I wasn't drawn to the black. I still can't understand why Apple emphasise such a premium for stainless steel mind you. A little bit more weight and a shiny finish is all it seems to offer. Looks nice though. My wife bought the gold and I think it draws the eye in so I thought what the hell I'll copy her lol. You should try it out if you can afford it I say :)

I have to agree, the ridiculous 50% price hike for the upgrade to stainless steel and a sapphire crystal does look like they have learned a few tricks from the Swiss watch industry when it comes to pricing.

I bought mine second hand where the high depreciation narrows the price gap between stainless steel and aluminium to an acceptable level.

I hadn't considered the sapphire glass on the SS model. That is being seen more and more on cheaper mechanicals these days though. My Steinhart OVM I posted a picture of previously was £300 and is made of Stainless and has a Sapphire crystal. I suppose though to people like you and me who know about watches, these sorts of details are amusing when Apple markets them as unique or revolutionary. To the average Joe that doesn't generally wear a watch and is buying a smart watch for the for time this is a clever marketing strategy.

Well done for getting one cheaper, I couldn't part with 600+ notes on a smart watch with an unjustified inflated price tag either.

P.S My Steinhart OVM incidently is probably the only watch I own that is worth more than I paid for it new. This is due to it being a much loved first edition of a model that is no longer available. If I had sold it at the beginning of last year I could have got £750 for it. I regularly see them on the secondhand market for around £450 these days. I'd never sell it though. :)

That's right, Apple certainly laid it on when promoting the watch, especially with those Jony Ive videos. 316L stainless steel is basically the bog standard case material for watches and a lot of people thought Apple were going to be the first to use a Sapphire crystal, even though it had already been used in watches for over 30 years.
