Any new Tiger discoveries???

It's a bit crappy actually. You have to click in the top-left corner for it to do anything, and even then it's kinda erratic.

Thanks -- I finally figured this out too.

Can someone confirm that when you have the Finder sidebar to just show icons, it doesn't resize so not to scroll? Example, if the sidebar has many items, and is showing filenames - then you collapse it, showing icons, it remembers that position when drives are ejected thus not showing the full icon when they increase in size.

Hmmm...I'm not 100% sure what you mean. Do you make the sidebar icon only just by dragging the divider left until it snaps to the icon-size only? For me, it *does* still resize after that.

Does anyone know why when I open up widgets in Dashboard why I don't get that cool water effect that I've seen all over the place? I am running a 867Mhz 12" PowerBook G4. Help! I want that effect!

i want the option, along with current iTunes song in ur iChat status, for the artwork too.

that would be TIGHT

i also wish i could command-backspace delete thing from spotlight instead of actually having to drag them to the trash

and i want iSight to be buy one get one free for a week only, cos i want one, but theres no incentive really. cant really use them with windows users, plus, its the person on the end of connection gett ing ur £100 quids worth of quality

mac osx 10.4 - this is 'TIIIIIIIGHT!' lol (sorry)

i'm not so convinced. macstumbler still says my signal is crappy, i think that the tiger menu bar is telling fibs.

Actually... I have noticed a huge increase in reliability. I watched an entire streamed game on MLB last night using Real player. I didn't have any of the usual rebuffing or loss of signal that I've had in the past. My PB used to loose signal strength and darn near loose the connection completely. My PM has always been strong (it's just perfect now). So... anyways my PB is now behaving like my PM used to, and my PM is now able to get a perfect signal (like my PC sitting next to it gets).

Your graphics card is not core-image compatible. Tiger will function just fine...just without the "eye-candy." Sorry.

the flag in the menu bar keeps changing from british :) to usa  !! Anyone seen this?

Nope, because I applekey-dragged it outta the menubar. I don't need a icon to remind me what country/keyboard layout I'm in.

Lots of bugs - my menubar keeps getting corrupted, and plugging in my Kensington USB mouse freezes the USB bus every time.)
My menubar died on the second boot. I had no clock or spotlight and trying to show the clock resulted in a not found error in Console. (even though the file was indeed there) Archive and Install fixed it right up

The Quartz Composer is very cool to play with - working on my own screensaver at the moment.
I just found that! It's very awesome! I am making a custom RSS screensaver!
They also have the Core Image funhouse in there
under developer utils.

This is awesome stuff. Now I need a better graphics card.

I think the reason for what Richard was experiencing is a new option in International Prefs...at the bottom of the Input Menu tab, there is now an "Allow a different input source for each document." option, which might cause the layout to change by virtue of switching between apps or docs.

QuickTime Minimizing

well i am still on panther but I found a new thing with QT7. If you minimise a movie while it is playing it will carry on playing small size in the dock. In QT 6 didn't it just freeze a frame?

In Panther, the movie also plays when minimized. This is one of the features that consistently floors my Windows friends. I hope it looks even better in Tiger!

How do you get the Core Image Fun House? Do I need to install Developer Tools?

Change in Screenshot File Type

Can anyone confirm that a screenshot is now saved as a .PNG file?

What do people think? Is this a good move or should they have stuck with .pdf?

I woulda liked them to even have a way to make JPG the default, although forcing it as the only option would be bad b/c of compression. I think it's great! :)

You don't, but...

You don't need an icon there, but it is clearly a bug. It's not about the flag, it's about the keyboard. It doesn't matter how you configure it, Tiger keeps changing keyboard layouts, if you have 2 or more.

Actually, no!

Actually, no, it doesn't matter how you configure it... Tiger keeps changing it by itself.

Place your cursor over any word and press apple-ctrl-d.

It reveals a dictionary definition of the word.
But apparently only in certain apps. Doesn't work in Firefox, for example. Or textmate.

Firefox is not Tigerized™. :D

Watch out, Lac, before you get sued by TigerDirect! :D

I am pretty sure that the distinction is Cocoa or not, isn't it? Just like in Panther, how Cocoa apps support inline spell-checking using the system checker but Carbon ones do not?

I foYou can now customise the 'New Mail' template so that you can decide which fields you want displaying as default. I rarely cc anyone at home so I've been able to take that out.

Although this has been discussed elsewhere within these forums, Tiger either boosts, or reduces your airport signal strength.

It boosted mine from 2 bars to full, so im not complaining

It certainly does. Mine is full all the time.

You probably need Core Image to get that. Your graphics are just not good enough for that.

I would think that searching "entire messages" in Mail would include information in the subject. I guess I was wrong. I purposely searched for a specific message that had the word "invoice" in the subject only, and it did not show up in the results when searching "entire messages."

That doesn't seem to be too useful, does it?

Hmmm...strangeness. I tried to find an example of the same (I found two with strange title words, verified that they were not in the body, and then did the search), and Mail found both of them for me on the Entire Msg setting. Did you make sure that the scope setting on the left side (this mailbox, all mailboxes, etc) was appropriate?

after testing it out for a bit i think it has helped a little. i can now open pages when our microwave is on, be it very slowly, when before i wasn't able to do anything.
i just find it interesting that according to macstumbler, everything below 35 is weak, below 70 is medium and above 70 is strong. where im sitting now never gets above 28 yet in the menu bar it shows full reception. then again, the noticeable speed at 28 could well be the same as 70.

i obviously don't know that much about wireless technology, it would be interesting to hear from someone who does, or ideally apple could tell us what they have done .
