Do you make the sidebar icon only just by dragging the divider left until it snaps to the icon-size only? For me, it *does* still resize after that.
That's what I mean, but I must have done something stupid. Can't replicate it now.

Another [genuine] peeve I have is the new 'Get info' behaviour; when you hit cmd+i on multiple files, it brings up info windows for each. Not helpful, as I usually used that to tell me how big files are for DVD writing purposes and such... not to mention the fact that I'm using 1024 resolution. First time it happened I was like... yeah, can't see anything else now. I know cmd+opt+i does the old 'get info' now, but wouldn' it have been better to keep old functionality and just add new, rather than break habits?

I have discovered a few things..

1) My OEM Pioneer DVR-108, which Ihad to use PatchBurn3 with in Panther to have it recognized, now is "Vendor Supported", AND now has dual layer support built in! Sweet!

Code:
yellow% drutil info
 Vendor Product Rev
 PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-108 1.04

   Interconnect: ATAPI
   SupportLevel: Vendor Supported
   Profile Path: VendorSupport.drprofile
          Cache: 2000k
CD-Write: -R, -RW, BUFE, CDText, Test, IndexPts, ISRC
      DVD-Write: -R, -RW, +R, +R DL, +RW, BUFE, Test
     Strategies: CD-TAO, CD-SAO, CD-Raw, DVD-DAO

2) There were some new utilities added to the installer DVD. Disk Utility is still there, as is the admin password reset.. but now it includes, Terminal (Sweet!), System Profiler, Network Utility, and a Startup disk prefpane.

Yeah, I found this out to my chagrin as well. :( I didn't know about Cmd-Opt-I, though. Thanks! :)

Related to this is that, as in Panther, there still seem to be certain folders for which the system will try seemingly endlessly to calculate a size and not give you a size. I find this very annoying, because the folders I need size info on are disproportionately represented in this category! :(

I'm glad it does this, I didn't like how if you selected 4 and hit get info you'd get one get info, because you'd have no idea what the big file was compared to the smaller one. The way it handles get info now is how it used to work in OS 9.

Can anyone confirm that a screenshot is now saved as a .PNG file?
These both sound like wonderful changes to me. Both will be time savers for my purposes. Glad they thought to include the cmd-opt-i for those who prefer the old way to Get Info.

That isn't the old way. It's the old new way, now it's the old new way. Make sense?

I've noticed

that it makes my powerbook hot enough to press a shirt quite well. This is not a joke.

I am pretty sure that the distinction is Cocoa or not, isn't it? Just like in Panther, how Cocoa apps support inline spell-checking using the system checker but Carbon ones do not?

Bingo. That's why Apple pushes Cocoa over Carbon, a hell of a lot more fun stuff included.

it is a shame that it doesn't work in firefox

Yeah, it is a shame...FF with the cocoa niceties would be an amazing thing.

Dude, you can say that again (but don't). That's why I don't use it as much as Safari. But there probably not that big of a market for OS X firefox users for them to care. So many people just uses Safari.

I noticed this as well. It seems much warmer. I thought this was just in my head..... now I'm not so sure.

H.264 encoding

Anyone wanting to finely tune their H.264 encodings can press the Option key while in the Quicktime standard compression window to set the Temporal quality. It defaults to med.

Cut and Paste in Dashboard

It's not much of a discovery but you can cut and paste numbers in the Dashboard calculator. I haven't found any other widgets yet that support that.

Your graphics card is not core-image compatible. Tiger will function just fine...just without the "eye-candy." Sorry.

You're right, Tiger works fine. That really irks me though. I want core-image!

Do any PowerBooks on the current line-up have this core-image feature?

A lot of them, don't they? Mine does.

I only did an upgrade of Tiger after replacing my Powerbook's Matshita UJ816 with a UJ845. Looks like I'm still relying on patchburn. I haven't tried burning a dvd yet.

The one thing i wish you could do on the world clock widget is be able to make he clock say your town or city. I do not like always having to use Atlanta but it gets the job done

Can anyone post a ZIP of the compiled CoreImage Fun House? I'd like to try it, but not being a developer, really don't want to have to install XCode 2 and all the other developer stuff just to play with it.

Or the name of a person you know in that time zone. If you have friends or business associates in that time zone, that might be why you wanted that clock there in the first place. So the titles should simply be editable.

I don't know if this is new to "Text Fields" in apps like Safari and TextEdit... but if you hold down the "option" key while your curser is in a text field - it will turn into a cross hair that you can use to kind of draw a selection. This is real cool if you just want to grab a few words (a block of text) out of a paragraph. Example found below:

I don't know
but if you h
will turn int
real cool if
