Being more to the point, Face ID uses 3-D facial mapping, where Samsung utilizes 2D facial mapping, that’s a huge disparity in security regardless if it has iris scanning or not. Apple is the _only_ smart phone manufacturer to utilize 3-D facial mapping for biometric security, Samsung does not.

And Apple does not use iris scanning.

And Apple does not use iris scanning.

This is your counter argument? They don’t need to. They chose the *only* tech available that _uses_ 3D Facial mapping, why would they need to utilize Iris scanning? Is that supposed to be more reliable than 3D facial mapping? I would politely suggest you research more into what Facial mapping is versus posting “And Apple does not use iris scanning.” Thats not an argument worth comparing, especially considering Apple chose not to venture with iris scanning for the record.

I know a few people that've tried the iris scanning and, to a person, they more or less hate it. You have to hold the phone just right and you have to have your eyes wide open. Not a good user experience even under the best conditions, and under more challenging situations (trying to unlock your phone at night in bed), it's a nightmare.

I do own iPhone X and I totally believe that Steve Jobs would have been a very happy person to see Face ID.

For a while I was using Android and I have to say that iPhone X is by far ahead than many other phones. It's everything, LED Screen, Face ID, iOS, Camera etc.

I think once iPhone X Plus gets ProMotion (120Ghz), it's game over!

And if you don't like that, Samsung also still has a fingerprint reader, so they have 3 bio options. Options people.

Right, but the iPhone doesn’t need three ‘bio’ options either, when Face ID houses the primary housing for some of the most advanced technology on the smart phone market.

Apple clearly think the 6.1” form factor is acceptable to the majority since they appear to be going for the mass market with this one. Personally I think it’s the size the X should have been.

Probably about time the SE got a refresh to cater for those who want the smaller form factor.

Actually, I find wireless charging to be a gimmick that just isn’t useful enough in its current form. With the glass back, my phone is easily slid out of place (by my nocturnal mischievous cat) on the charging pad meaning you wake up to find you’re still at 45% battery. If using a case it’s even easier to move off the centre and lose the charging power - and this is the same with either of the two pads I’ve tried.

Re: killer features - to be completely fair, I haven’t seen anything of the like from Android flagships either.

An SE X. The marketing folks would love that.

They really have one. They have a facial thing that is easily fooled, they have an iris scanner that is more frustrating to use than anything else and they have a fingerprint reader.

Fingerprint reader is really the only reasonable option of the three... unless you don't care about security, then you can use their facial thing.

Any one of these would prompt me to upgrade from my current X to the new one:
  • Plus sized screen
  • spec bump
  • faster FaceID (even though the current FaceID is pretty darned fast)
  • camera improvements
And we're likely going to get all four, potentially others. I'm pumped. :)

So basically anything. Lol

The Samsung intelligent scan works very well actually, haven't had any problems with it, and it doesn't require you to open your eyes real wide or anything like people complained about on the S8. Open your brains a little bit people. Some of you on here seem like such caricatures of those Samsung commercials where the Apple people are waiting in line and making the mind blown gesture, lol.

I have no brand loyalty whatsoever. Before the iPhone X I used the Samsung Galaxy S5, S7 and S8+. That being said, Samsung’s intelligenct scan sucks. Period. It’s awkward, slow and inconsistent. Fingerprint scanner is great though.

Well I guess we have had different experiences then.

It speaks volumes that Samsung base advertising campaigns on mocking the very consumers that are their target market. Some might find it amusing but I find it desperate. If they gave a bit more screen time to their own product and why we should buy it, maybe more people would.

No one is questioning that Samsung Iris scan ‘doesn’t work well’, you were comparing iris scanning to facial mapping earlier in this thread, which are very two different types of technology, being that Apple has the lead been the *only* tech manufacture using 3-D facial mapping. That’s the disparity in your posts that you cannot compare. Even if Iris scanning is reliable and secure, it doesn’t even touch face ID with 3-D facial mapping and all the hardware included.

can't wait for the 6.5" iPhone XS PLUS!!!!!

and apple released it on iOS 12 beta the diagram "by accident" again so its pretty much confirmed

I’m not convinced that any significant number of X owners will upgrade. The only folks that i know upgrade yearly are taking part in paid upgrade programs.

Paid upgrade programs? My carrier (Verizon) lets me upgrade for free after a year. I just have to pay tax on the new phone (~$75) and the monthly lease payment. Some people hate leasing their phone but it works great for me. Instead of just turning it in, pay off the difference (my 8+ was 949 so 475 for half) and sell it for 600 (great price for where they are selling now), and you come out with ~25/mo effective monthly payment. Less than a dollar a day in perpetuity to have the newest phone is a fine trade off for me, especially because you get a new battery every year, stay within warranty, and never have to tie up close to $1k for the phone. Getting the perks of the new features is even just gravy. I've never felt the need to "own" my phone with this program.

Any news? I predict a bigger version that looks the same as the smaller version only bigger... and more expensive...

Except Samsung uses both in its intelligent scan, making it more secure than either one individually. I thought you all knew what intelligent scan was, but I guess not. Apple is not the only one with their own bio solution. Arguing with people in the Apple bubble is like arguing with a wall.

Apologies if this is a dumb question but what does 120hz give you exactly?

Higher display refresh rates 120hz vs the current 60hz on iPhones; Scrolling, motion content, and greater responsiveness from the touch screen.

Apple has it on their iPad pros.
