True, but if your not going to push the product, kind of feels like a waste. which is why i did not recommend the M4 iPad Air either.

I have the 2021 M1 iPad Pros (16GB/1TB) and I've never really pushed them to their limits. Maybe just some cozy games here and there (Dreamlight Valley and Hello Kitty Island Adventure).

I use them several hours daily, more than all my other electronics combined so for that alone, they're worth it to me.

Sure, with the money spent, I could've upgraded the base iPad several times already. The thing is the M1 iPP had plenty of headroom so I didn't need to constantly upgrade. Even now, I still like my 5-year old iPP better than the latest generation base model (iPad A16).

As the title asks, is there any reason not to pull the trigger on an iPad Pro M5?

There’s no realistic update nor rumors of one coming anytime soon, and the buyer’s guide is listed as neutral.

If full steam ahead, any thoughts on the Pro 11” M5 vs Pro 13” M5? I’ve held both and feel stuck in the middle on both. I would go with the 256gb storage option as I use iCloud and don’t have a massive amount of apps that I use.

Also of note, while I do not have a home laptop, I am not considering this as a laptop replacement, so I won’t be adding a keyboard/trackpad.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

I'm in a similar boat, and I'm waiting. I think there's a chance that they could release mildly updated models in the fall.
Unless you aren't the type who would care at all about buying a piece of tech & a newer model being released very quickly after purchase.

I have had one of each iPad for years; 11", 13" and Mini.
I used to use my 11" more, up until a few years ago when I switched almost exclusively to the 13" M4. I barely use my 11" now, and when I do, the screen (and keyboard) feel SO cramped compared to the 13".

So; if I were choosing ONE between the 11 and 13; it would be 13, hands down.

Also; I used to be like you; "everything is in cloud, waste of money to get more storage."

Ah, but the RAM....... the M4 iPad is my 1st with 2TB storage, and 16GB RAM.
The added RAM really does make a substantial difference & I'll NEVER get an iPad with less RAM again. It is noticeable.

And; just saying.....the Magic Keyboard is so, SO wonderful. I've also had one of those on my iPads......man, I think since the Magic Keyboard was released....and it's amazing. Really a wonderful product. Not only for typing / touchpad (obviously) but just as a stand & case for your iPad; it really is awesome & I have always loved it.

To sum up my recommendations:
1TB 13" with Magic Keyboard (or at least leave open the possibility).
Take another look at the rumor mill and decide for yourself what you think the likelihood is of an iPad refresh this year and then make your decision.

No reason to not go ahead and make the purchase. It is a fine iPad.

I recently traded in an iPad Mini 7 and MBA13 for an IPP11M5 and MBP14M5.

I went for screen quality.

See sigline for specs on what I went with.

An aside on specs; going bigger on gb/tb will often improve speed, longevity and utility. The setup is just different on the inside. It's the reason my ordered-it-brand-new-Dec-2020 Mac Mini M1 16gb/1tb is still running perfectly normal as compared to my bought-it-brand-new beloved 2016 MacBook 12 8gb/256gb that was choking on itself in just two years.

The base model Apple-anything must have been their absolute cash cow in each product line as people quickly found themselves wanting, and needing, more. More ram such as to avoid having every single webpage reload every time they re-visited that tab and so on. Basically, from the consumer standpoint, it is false economy to go with the cheapest option. I'm kinda glad Apple wiped out their base versions (due to ram supply/price) as this actually benefits the consumer.

I believe the M4 iPad Air comes with 12gb ram? So if you want the ram simply to get Siri's full functionality, and don't necessarily care for the bells and whistles that come with the pro models, you can save a little money here?

I got a M5 - size really depends on what you're doing with it. I sometimes wish for a bigger screen with more resolution, but I also appreciate the portability of the 11''. It's my first iPad Pro. I appreciate the 12gb RAM, as that fit's my use-case as a music-synthesizer machine for a DAW-less setup.

Apart from that, it's imho overkill for anything you can do with an iPad. Yes, the screen ist brighter and even a little more color accurate than the air, but really, the air's screen is good enough as it is, at least for me doing photos and videos professionally. The speakers might sound a little better, but when comparing them in store, the air's speakers felt louder, and both sound more or less equally tinny. I thought that I would use the LIDAR sensor occasionally, but haven't really. I could do without the camera hump. Having an M5 is great for running multiple synthesizers in parallel, but doesn't really benefit anything else. Sure, encoding in Lightroom or DaVinci is a little faster, but that's not something you usually do on an iPad in a daily, professional setting or that makes any difference if it adds 2 Minutes to your workday every now and then. Working with iPadOS instead of MacOS will add much, much more. The downside of the M5 is, that it's the ipad with the worst battery life I ever had. OG>Air>Air2>Air3>Pro M5

Yep battery life on my iPad Air 3 with A12 bionic was incredible, would last around 2-3 weeks on standby. Gave it to my father in law which i regret lol. My iPad Air 4 and iPP M4 barely last a week on standby if I'm lucky (always attached to MKB).

It's a great tablet and won't feel slow for a very long time to come. Just don't expect a traditional computer and you'll be fine.

I'd say go for it.
I have a home desktop computer I enjoy using. I have laptops that I use for work, as well. It’s an iPad that I will use as an iPad.

There was one comical response from someone who clearly missed the part where I said I will not be using this as a laptop replacement. He advised dropping 400,000 JPY on an IPP 13” with 1 TB storage and the Apple keyboard. Add in the pencil and I can get a new 14” MBP M5 for the same price. Makes zero sense to me.

FWIW the base M5 models do have 12GB now. I guess that and the M4 Airs getting it should have been the clue.
Ahh....I remember that...... but only because I also learned when I heard that, that the higher-tier models are STILL stuck at only 16 GB, correct? 🧐 🤔

Such an "apple" thing for them to do... 🙄😡😡😡

If an M6 iPad Pro is coming this year, it would be October at the earliest, after the iPhone launch. But we still haven't seen any M5 desktop computers yet, so hard to tell if this year sees an M-bump until the entire product line is refreshed. I don't think Apple still wants to be selling M3 Ultra Studios when the M6 is out.

Since you said it is not a laptop replacement and you are not getting the Magic Keyboard, go for the 11". That is the best size for portrait-orientation reading like the web, Kindle, and comic books. Using a 13" for reading while lying down or reclining is awful. It starts fine, but just feels heavy and unwieldly after awhile.

Are you referring to me? Because it's ironic that you accuse me of failing to read, while simultaneously ACTUALLY failing to read & comprehend my post.

I did not suggest you get the Magic Keyboard to make your iPad more like a laptop. People who talk about the "iPad as laptop replacement" don't understand technology any better than a toddler anyway.

I said that - among other benefits - the Magic Keyboard is a great STAND for your iPad. Or were you planning on just laying it on your counter while you crane your neck over it?

Have you ever even held an iPad? do you know how slim, slick, and slippery they are? How are you going to prop it up so you can do anything on it?

Also; how do you plan on inputting any data into your ipad? URLs, logins for streaming, email accts, etc.? You never plan to send a single text? Jot down a note?
Countless, countless reasons where a keyboard makes the iPad exponentially faster, easier, and more convenient.
I never said a thing about trying to shoehorn it into being a "laptop replacement"

And IDK where all this stuff about Japanese Yen came from. You asked for advice on an iPad and I gave it to you. If you are so budget conscious, why are you even contemplating an M5 iPad to begin with? That's a top-tier / flagship device. Maybe you should stick with the air or android.

That's great if a MBP is the same price as a decked out iPad pro....... but what's that got to do with the price of tea in china? Or Japan, as it were..... MBP doesn't have a touch screen, it isn't a tablet, it has a permanently attached keyboard, and it runs an entirely different OS. Clearly stuff like this needs to be explained to you. 😅

You can also buy for ~400,000.00 JPY, a fancy TOTO Neorest or Panasonic A La Uno smart toilet.
You can get a museum grade Katana.
An I'm sure a lot of other cool stuff for 400k JPY, none of which have anything to do with the iPad comparing in price to the MBP. You asked for iPad advice, I incorrectly gave it to you.

Whatever dude, Have a nice day. 🤣🤣

No worries 😀

When I compare an iPhone Pro vs Pro Max, I am Pro Max all day long. It takes me a millisecond to know which size is right for me.

But I feel stuck between the 11” and 13”. If the 13” isn’t jumping out at me as the easy choice, that may be my answer.

Just my 2 cents, but to me the 11" isn't a big enough gain in portability to offset the loss in size of the screen. They are both awkward to hold as a tablet in portrait mode and the screen size constraints of the 11" sends me back to the 13" every time I shop for a new one and consider sizes again. Yes, the 11" is less awkward than the 13", but not by much in my use.
