There are plenty of case and stand options apart from the Magic Keyboard. I have a Magic Keyboard around somewhere that I never use. The onscreen keyboard works just fine for me majority of the time.

I bought an iPad to use as a tablet. iPad+MKB to me just feels like combining the aspects I dislike most in tablets and laptops.

I moved from an 8GB IPP to a 16gb IPP and the difference is noticeable. Would have been nice to have a 24gb option but yeah… Apple. iPadOS doesn’t use RAM like macOS anyway so it’s not like 16+gb will give you that many advantages outside of localized AI.

And IDK where all this stuff about Japanese Yen came from. You asked for advice on an iPad and I gave it to you. If you are so budget conscious, why are you even contemplating an M5 iPad to begin with? That's a top-tier / flagship device. Maybe you should stick with the air or android.

That's great if a MBP is the same price as a decked out iPad pro....... but what's that got to do with the price of tea in china? Or Japan, as it were..... MBP doesn't have a touch screen, it isn't a tablet, it has a permanently attached keyboard, and it runs an entirely different OS. Clearly stuff like this needs to be explained to you. 😅

You can also buy for ~400,000.00 JPY, a fancy TOTO Neorest or Panasonic A La Uno smart toilet.
You can get a museum grade Katana.
An I'm sure a lot of other cool stuff for 400k JPY, none of which have anything to do with the iPad comparing in price to the MBP. You asked for iPad advice, I incorrectly gave it to you.

I will buy a case for the IPP when I eventually buy one, but I sure as hell wouldn’t think to spend 50,000-60,000 JPY for a case that’s a keyboard/trackpad, doubles the weight, and now turns it into a wannabe laptop. But thats just me.

Just my 2 cents, but to me the 11" isn't a big enough gain in portability to offset the loss in size of the screen. They are both awkward to hold as a tablet in portrait mode and the screen size constraints of the 11" sends me back to the 13" every time I shop for a new one and consider sizes again. Yes, the 11" is less awkward than the 13", but not by much in my use.

The 13” does indeed scream choose me - attention grabber - but then when I start looking at the 11” sitting right next to it, I can hear it, too.

That’s what made me believe that if I am not instantly sold on the 13”, in the same way I am 1000% an iPhone Pro Max vs. smaller models, then that might be my answer right there.

And other times wishing I just had the 13” iPad Pro instead. Bottom line, no matter what choice you make, you can always second guess yourself or wonder what if.

I feel like the iPad Pro could be the most amazing Apple product if only it could run MacOS. I mean it costs more than a MacBook Pro when adding it all up, there is a MacBook that runs on an iPhone SoC, why can’t we just use our iPad the way we want if it is an Air or Pro with M-series SoC, it would be a killer device. And it could run both OSes at the same time or optionally. I hope Ternus gives us a real purpose for the iPad Pro.

Right now I feel like the best iPad is the cheapest one. But would be so different if could run MacOS on these expensive versions.

I made a choice about a year ago to not use Macs outside of work, and use an iPad instead. It’s actually works surprisingly well, as I find macOS far better for work nd getting things done, btu I far rather the iPad form factor for leisure - being on the Sid, in bed, mostly consuming content, quick shopping, checking emails, some gaming with a controller. I’m using a 10th gen base iPad, and it’s OK, and it’s OK, but the main issues are the cramped screen size and lack of storage. Screen is OK, good enough, but better would be I nicer

I use the iPad in an articulated stand quite a bit, I really don’t need it to be a laptop replacement - if I need it to be a “computer”, I rather using it as a “mini iMac”, with with wireless keyboard and mouse.

I do want to move up to a 13”, my wife has an M1 Pro in this form factor, and the extra screen real estate is an improvement. . My dilemma is 13” air or pro? Realistically, I don’t need nothing the pro offers over the air, but the better screen and speakers would be nice.

The issue is, does the far the better screen and better speaker system justify the hefty price increase?

The iPP/Air + MKB is not everyones cup of tea for sure, but for me personally its one of Apples greatest ever combination of products. Its just so much more fun and engaging to use, and feels more modern and interactive than using any Macbook imo, although i do love my MBA M5.

Also i fully understand peoples complaints over iPad OS 26 but for me its the best OS for tablets as it is like a hybrid OS essentially combining the best aspects of iOS and Mac OS together, which works very well for me actually. If i need to go to the gents or lying in bed then i just take the thin and light iPP off the MKB and use it as an actual tablet, just love its versatility.

Using a 13" for reading while lying down or reclining is awful. It starts fine, but just feels heavy and unwieldly after awhile.

It’s not awful if you have a Zugu case and rest it on a pillow.

There’s no realistic update nor rumors of one coming anytime soon, and the buyer’s guide is listed as neutral.

If full steam ahead, any thoughts on the Pro 11” M5 vs Pro 13” M5? I’ve held both and feel stuck in the middle on both. I would go with the 256gb storage option as I use iCloud and don’t have a massive amount of apps that I use.

Also of note, while I do not have a home laptop, I am not considering this as a laptop replacement, so I won’t be adding a keyboard/trackpad.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

If you're not adding kb/tp, then I think M5 Pro 11" makes the most sense of those two choices.

However, given that you're purely using this as a tablet, and you're concerned about purchase timing (based on the Buyer's Guide) then I think a refurbished M-series Pro 11" will be nearly indistinguishable from an M5 Pro unless you're after specific features the M5 has.

True! From experience though, a Zugu case tends to wrap around the iPad pretty snuggly, so it’s not so much a case you can easily pop off as desired. It is a very protective and enveloping case that, once it is on the iPad, it is on for a while.

I kept telling myself my ipad was old, that was the problem. Well i updated recently and Nope - ios Sucks
And gestures really dont work in humid areas. There are so many negatives to using ios in a professional workflow

Then on top of all the negatives apple hamstrings the ipad not allowing it to have its own phone number everything needs to go back through your iphones number. Tim cook might of made money but killed apple being anything other than entertainment for the subway ride home

Regret spending an extra penny to this frustrating os

I've bounced around on iPad screen sizes a lot, and I've found the combo that works best for me is 13" iPP+MKB and an iPad mini. Every time I try to swap one out for an 11" it proves unpleasing. If the 11" were back to 9.7" like the legacy iPads I think I'd be happier, but 11" is just a hair too large even with smaller bezels.

I went the opposite way. iPad only for years. No personal computer. Had the old 10.5' pro and then always the 11'. I always thought I wanted bigger but the 13' for me in its current form is just simply too awkward to hold. Im ready for them to thin out those bezels and then I might try a 13' again. I recently sold my 11' M4 IPP and purchased a MacBook Air. Loving it so far. Yes the screen isn't as great as the IPP but I have no issues for daily content consumption/web browsing. Plus the MBA was cheaper than the 13' IPP.

I always felt like my iPad was a big iPhone. Sometimes I wouldn't use my iPad as I could just use my pro max. The MBA has helped make the decision easier, do I need to use a touch screen (then I use my 17 pro max) do I want to watch Netflix or YouTube/type a lot, then I use my MBA.

yea I don't use my iPad very often anymore, just stays in my work bag for staying at the bunkhouse. MacBook Air for the living room and my iPhone for the rest

I understand technology quite well - 55 years' experience as a s/w & h/w engineer, a Technical Fellow in a large corporation - and have been able to replace my laptop with a 1TB M5 13" Pro.

It really comes down to your individual use case and how you intend to use the iPad Pro . . . I see the benefits of having the larger 13 inch screen as opposed to the smaller more compact 11 inch screen. Just speaking for my use case, I use my 11 inch iPad Pro M5 for my excel spread sheet analysis, when I do this, but mostly go online forums like this as well as watch various YouTube videos and occasionally browse the internet using my browser. Sometimes, but not all the time, I may watch a movie on mine. That is it and with my cellular 1TB M5 iPad Pro, this is overkill but this is how I use my device.

Your use may be different and require the larger 13 inch screen. To me there is no wrong choice but get at least the 1TB version so you have the best M5 processor and RAM for your device.

As of today, I do not reccommend you buy anything from the apple store. go to third party retailers and get an ipad before price increases.

I just pulled the trigger on an 11" M5 IPP since they are S100 off at Best Buy matching Amazon Prime deals plus I had almost $100 in rewards certificates. Happy with my purchase and still have an M1 IPP. Now with the price increases starting I'm really glad I did

Decide where you will primarily use the iPad. I have an iPad Pro M4, 11-inch and at times I wish it were larger when at the desk. I do some testing for electronics and some of the tools are iOS apps. Sometimes a larger screen would be nice. On the other hand, a 13-inch would be just too large for an adjustable mount in the car.

It ain't a perfect word, but overall, the 11-inch works for me more times than not. Testing, reading books, browsing...the 11-inch iPad Pro has been a good choice for me.

I would recommend a magnetic mount stead of adjustable. I use my iPad 13” as an infotainment/navigation system in my truck. Magnetic mount has never failed me, it’s great

I’ve had both sizes up to a few hours ago. Just sold my 11”. I loved them both. I also used them differently from each other. Used the 13” more as “laptop” device while using the 11” as a reader and note taker. Both are great really. Prices are going up so get one soon.
