As the title asks, is there any reason not to pull the trigger on an iPad Pro M5?

There’s no realistic update nor rumors of one coming anytime soon, and the buyer’s guide is listed as neutral.

If full steam ahead, any thoughts on the Pro 11” M5 vs Pro 13” M5? I’ve held both and feel stuck in the middle on both. I would go with the 256gb storage option as I use iCloud and don’t have a massive amount of apps that I use.

Also of note, while I do not have a home laptop, I am not considering this as a laptop replacement, so I won’t be adding a keyboard/trackpad.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

I have a 13” M4 but I use it mainly on the MK and I do use it as a laptop replacement but….. if I was not going to use a MK I’d go for the 11”.
Thanks! I feel like the more I search for comparisons, I see more people talking about wishing they went smaller or choosing smaller vs the other way around.

Of course individual needs vary. I will play games, consume media, internet and normal usage. But also very very light MS Office documents and email. And drawing apps that I use for work. Nothing worth justifying a keyboard.

I bought an IPP M5 13” a few months ago to use as a replacement for my iMac and MacBook, then gave my 11” iPad Air to my wife (along with the other 2 devices). It ended up being a great decision for me. I’ll occasionally help my wife with something on the 11” iPad and every time I’m reminded about happy I am choosing the 13”.

Yes, but as I mentioned, this ISN’T a desktop/laptop replacement for me - which is why I was thinking the 11” Pro may be better than the 13” Pro.

Perhaps I shouldn’t have even mentioned that it’s a desktop/replacement. In any case, for me, the 13” was a solid choice over the 11”
No worries 😀

When I compare an iPhone Pro vs Pro Max, I am Pro Max all day long. It takes me a millisecond to know which size is right for me.

But I feel stuck between the 11” and 13”. If the 13” isn’t jumping out at me as the easy choice, that may be my answer.

Not me. I love the M5 13" and I'll never buy another iPad with a smaller display.

Now is a great time to buy.

Its a mature product, and the next one is probably about 6 months away

Depends on what you use it for. I have both sizes (older gens) and use the 13” for document-oriented tasks (PDFs) and as a desktop side screen on a stand for video conferencing (landscape orientation), whereas the 11” is for other general use and travel.

If you don’t have use cases or visual impairments (like far-sightedness, or needing larger font sizes) that specifically call for the larger size, the 11” is probably more versatile, especially for non-stationary use. On the other hand, the larger size feels less cramped. The 11” has a narrower aspect ratio than the 13”.

From what you’ve said in terms of your planned usage IMHO I feel the 11” will be more suited to your needs.

I guess the 13” may be more beneficial for your drawing (and maybe gaming – not a gamer myself so that’s just me clutching at straws!)

I usually go for the 11” iPad size (have 2 of them), but the iPP M4/M5 13” version just gives you more of that incredible Tandem OLED display and more space to manage Windows better. Also it can serve you well as a hybrid “computer” to the point where you may find that you don't even need a traditional laptop/desktop if this makes sense.

I went with 11” iPad Pro and my mum with 13” Air. For me, the priority was its lightness and portability (as it travels with me for work), for her – as large a screen as possible (as it never leaves her house). So just see what is more important for you, I guess.

I went the opposite way. iPad only for years. No personal computer. Had the old 10.5' pro and then always the 11'. I always thought I wanted bigger but the 13' for me in its current form is just simply too awkward to hold. Im ready for them to thin out those bezels and then I might try a 13' again. I recently sold my 11' M4 IPP and purchased a MacBook Air. Loving it so far. Yes the screen isn't as great as the IPP but I have no issues for daily content consumption/web browsing. Plus the MBA was cheaper than the 13' IPP.

I always felt like my iPad was a big iPhone. Sometimes I wouldn't use my iPad as I could just use my pro max. The MBA has helped make the decision easier, do I need to use a touch screen (then I use my 17 pro max) do I want to watch Netflix or YouTube/type a lot, then I use my MBA.

With the way things are right now, you’re probably better off buying the M5 iPP asap before prices go up.

I have both sizes. I prefer the 11” for tablet use (bed/couch surfing, travel, etc). The 13”, I really only use docked to complement my desktop or for annotating PDFs.

Your use case is yours, however I will replace my 11” with either (or both) a mini and/or a 13” as I find the 11” is too big to comfortably hold so might as well go bigger! I don’t notice a further drawback for that size increase.

Pros are typically on an 18 month refresh cycle, so you're likely at least a year out from a new one. With prices possibly rising in the neat future, it's a great time to grab one right now, IMO.

if you're not intending on adding the Magic Keyboard nor intending as laptop replacement, i do not recommend the iPad Pro.

The standard iPad 11" 256GB at $429 will be sufficient.

The iPad pro is designed for heavy mobile workflow. While not fully intended as a replacement, the Magic Keyboard + M5 + OS 27 allows insane workflow capabilities. From 3DCAD, to full 8K multi-cam Davinci resolve editing, to full SQL coding and editing and more.

I'd only feel futureproofed with an iPad Pro if I had 16gb memory. My m4 13" doesn't, and it won't get the local Apple Intelligence models. I think I'm going to sell it, and not buy another iPad for a long long time.

You don’t need to have a heavy mobile workflow in order to appreciate the OLED display.

I think now is a good time to buy an iPad Pro M5. I bought mine a few months back and love it! I personally like the 11-inch model best because it's more comfortable to hold than the 13-inch model. The 11-inch is the perfect size for me because I can hold it comfortably and it's big enough for when I attach it to my Magic Keyboard so I can get more work-related things done.

This right here. I upgraded my 8gb IPP to the 1tb M5 and the RAM difference is noticeable with multitasking. Don’t know if I’ll buy another IPP for a very long time if Apple doesn’t allow RAM upgrades separate from the SSD.

For OP, imo I’d buy now with price increases always looming with this AI mess. If you can’t decide on screen size by playing around with them in store, I’d use the 14 day return policy @ Apple and try out both at home. Return the one you don’t love. I’ve always gotten 13” but the 11” is easier to hold without any supports… but I prop my 13” on a pillow or blanket when it’s not in the MKB. But it’s easy to hold with both hands too.
