Yes. That LCD screen is horrible. Not horrible in the sense it’s bad because it’s not but the resolution and the fact it’s an LCD screen makes it a no no for me. It’s good enough to be fine for the average user but OLED is the way to go?

I guess if you have an OLED screen you're not an average user. Also, is your last sentence a question? I'm a little confused.

Ok? Oled is vastly superior to lcd

Tbh for TVs I don’t care as much and got a Sony X900E series tv and it was fine. I rather have an oled panel for my phone then a TV.

That's the difference between you and me. You like the phone screen... I prefer OLED on my 65" screen that I use for movies and gaming in my home theater and could give 2 ****s about it on a 6 inch phone screen that I use for texting, FB and web surfing.

You don't have to sell me on OLED bro... I own one but still don't consider it a pressing need on a phone.

Later...

Here are some size comparisons of editing space/size in Lightroom.

For me, coming from the xs Max, the xr represents an upgrade. It's the first iPhone in ages that I haven't had buyer's remorse with.
The xr occupies a sweet spot in terms of screen size between the xs/x and the xs Max.
Also, whilst the oled has better blacks, the LCD has better whites and most web pages are white. The screen is also better than the oled xs/xs Max when viewed outside/sunlight.
Add to all that the xr is cheaper and has an interesting choice of colours...

i dont test screens / devices for a living and can see the difference its night and day between them not saying the screen is rubbish on xr by all means but no were as good as the amoled pannel on the x or xs
There is no night and day difference.
Lol you’re fishing so bad. Some people just don’t care as long as it’s an iPhone. Those people wouldn’t care as long as it looks good enough to be pixelated. The XR is fine for that.

Im fishing? If I’m fishing then you lack self awareness! All of a sudden Apple offers a more affordable version of the X and some of you want to sit on your high horse. You sound ridiculous. You X/Xmax users sound just as bad as the Android users who love to try and talk down to Apple users. You’re arguing about what screen is better when both have their pros and cons.

if you go from an x to an xr its a down grade not an upgrade and if you think the xr screen is just as good as the amoled x screen your eyes are needing upgraded not your phone lol
That’s an opinion, not a fact. You know that right? Everyone’s situation is different.

I waited until the XR came out before I bought the iPhone. I bought the Max instead because I thought it was better. I haven't regretted my decision.

Nope. Besides isn’t the XR using three year old technology, it’s screen rez or something? I seem to remember reading that on this board.
Funny... OLED is jacking the colors up for this image. Raw edited and sync’d image from a Fuji X-T2.

Using it now.
First thoughts beyond that I’ve already said the screen is great.

- Heavy in a gel Otterbox case.. I would never use this but it’s all they had.
- virtually ZERO color-shift, vertical or horizontal.
- Fits well in jeans pocket, even in this case
- The FaceID animation is colorful, unlike the XS
- Text is smaller so I’m using 3rd from smallest setting instead of 2nd from smallest

Does the VR have "Zoomed" mode from the older phones? I really appreciated that font increase without using "accessibility" which larger fonts throw everything "off'.

Ok, but there are people that are on here that are interested in the XR so I’d consider this phone for more than the average user. Not everyone loves OLED screens. It’s personal preference.

Sticking with the Max, wider display matching the plus models before it and HDR screen. Xr is a step backwards in this regards, back before the displays of the 8 and 8plus.

It turns out that the iPhone 8, 8 Plus and iPad Pro were able to support HDR content via dithering and Apple have merely removed HDR from the description to differentiate these devices and the Xr from the X, XS and XS MAX which can natively display HDR video. So the screen on the Xr is the same quality as the 8.

For me, I was worried about losing 2x zoom lens. But last night I went for a walk and took pics of some Halloween displays using zoom in the dark and the pictures came out nice and clear and depicted in most cases what my eyes were seeing. I really could not see the degradation in image quality to the degree I was expecting after long experience with digital zoom on many past and current model phone cameras. Sometimes I needed to use Halide app to get some tricky lighting situations optimized. But most of the time the stock camera app was spot on.
In darker conditions the dual lens iphones prioritise the wide angle lens + plus digital zoom over the telephoto lens so the performance between XR and XS is probably identical. In good light the XS second lens has its advantage

Yep. That’s. Good upgrade for you.

Yes there is a difference. The screen on the Xr is clearly superior.

This isn’t true especially the 8 with same
Ppi. In no way is Xr screen a step backwards from that

If you have not yet upgraded from iPhone X to iPhone X’s or XS Max, then it will be silly to upgrade to iPhone Xr.

You will be better of waiting for the next iPhone
Why do you say that? How can a 5/6 to an XR not be a good upgrade? Especially considering the XR is for people who don't want to shell out 1k+, which is exactly what next year's new phones will be.

Not necessarily as data from both lenses is used for a single image & that doesn’t always go well.

I’ll be honest, after seeing how positive the reviews have been, and the beautiful colors, and the pictures taken from the XR, I’m starting to contemplate downgrading to the XR. I know it sounds insane, but I had my doubts at first but they were all proven wrong after seeing professional and average user reviews on it. Anyone else feel the same way, or am I just crazy?

There, fixed that for ya!

I am guessing the left one and bottom one is XR comparing to XS. Was this photo shot using the same phone with HDR.. XS or XR?
Left is XR, right is XS.

Photo was taken with a Fuji X-T2 in Raw format. I edited the image. The image displayed is the same image, with the same edits displayed on the XR and XS.
