I just received my unlock today. I restored from my previous backup. Why would it still say AT&T and the same info in settings? Hope I did not mess this up.

So now that the phones are unlocked, are you still required to have a data plan to have an iPhone on AT&T?
Yes it is still required.

You will have to insert a different sim card from any gsm like tmobile.

I got 7 of them unlocked so far by At&t with and with out a account!
its ok to say u got it off ebay but u have to have proof that u bought it

I noticed they added to the chat page that you now have to be an existing AT&T customer to get an unlock.

I sort of knew this would happen since you arent supposed to get to that page UNLESS you have an AT&T account.

IF anyone is still successful let us know but it looks like that chat method may be dead.

This quote only says that AT&T requires you to be an existing customer to unlock via chat. It does not say that you have to be an AT&T customer for the unlock.

I'd say the only way for you to get an unlock - if you are NOT an AT&T costumer - is to call their customer service. I come to this conclusion because the line in the above quote is specifically pointing to a method in which people were obtaining unlocks previously. I have not tried to use the chat myself, so I cannot vouch for the accuracy of the quote.

the chat link has been changed! so they are no more offering unlocks on that specific chat!!

Unless you can get a hold of the seller and if the seller is willing to do it, he/she can do it for you.

my bro is AT&T customer! what if i try to get it done via him then?

That's what I'm saying. They won't do it via chat. That's not the same as they won't do it at all. Call AT&T.

I too can confirm they won't unlock via chat. Anyone tried calling?
I am not an AT&T costumer and I had absolutely no issues when I spoke to them on the phone.

What number did you call? Could you give me some details on what you said over the phone?

I called the 1-800-331-0500 customer service number that google gave me. I said that I bought an iPhone on ebay and that I would like to have it unlocked. The guy said 'no problem', asked for my IMEI and that was it. I was just upfront and honest with him. He didn't seem to have an issue with the fact that I have never been an AT&T costumer. I was just polite and didn't demand anything.

I'll give them a call! Thanks.

i called and had no problems either. but then i called back a few days later and the rep said, "they (case department) needs proof of purchase or proof of ownership/transfer to be faxed in. oh whatever!!!!

So I called today for my brother for an iPhone 4S I bought him in the AT&T store at full price they gave me a case number and said 5-7 days.Any chance they'll deny it.Does it matter that hes in the UK with it?

I doubt it.
If its not under contract and you paid full price they will be able to see that on their system.

The lady never asked me just told her the situation and she said 5-7 days reached out to @ATTCustomerCare on twitter they told me it should be done in the same time frame.I just hope they dont follow up with me and ask for proof im a disorganized slob when it comes to paperwork and I dont have it.The main reason why i like that apple emails the receipts to me

I hear you, I dont save stuff like that either.
Who knows I will need my original receipt a year later:)

Yeah I know you unlocked a few iPhones did they ever call and follow up after the original phone call to them to request the unlock?
