So as a follow-up...One of my phones unlocked without ever seeing the unlock screen in itunes. I never got any emails from AT&T about the unlock procedure being completed either. Just one email that said that I had requested unlocks telling me what steps i should follow.

Not for me.. i am really sad... can someone help me a little... please...

Just got a denial email, said there was no account associated with the request. I called them and he said they just changed their policy, now only account holders or ex account holders will be approved, there must be an account # submitted with the request now. Apparently they can change the policy at their free will. My new unlock date is the 9th, I will hope for the best.

Damn, so i'm not an AT&T account member so I might as well not even try?

Sounds like there's a policy change, but you may as well try. Assuming the holds aren't as long anymore, you don't have much to lose.

okay so I have a friend that is an AT&T customer (in good standing) who is going to call for me tomorrow to unlock my iPhone 4S. It is not reported lost/stolen or under contract. The only problem is, I don't know who the previous owner was? Who should I say was the previous owner? I don't know what to make up? thanks!

Tell them you bought it used off ebay or CL.

The IMEI XXXXXXXXXXXX is not found associated with your old account
number XXXXXXXXXXXX. There was a different IMEI iPhone on that old
account. Therefore, proof of purchase will be required in order to
release the lock on this device. Please reply with your sales receipt
for your original purchase at an AT&T retail outlet.

The requirement that is needed is you have to complete contract or need
a paid receipt from an authorized AT&T retail outlet
confirming that device was purchased at full retail pricing. Your phone
is not eligible unless you can produce a receipt that you bought it
directly from AT&T. *Ebay sales and gift transfers are not eligible.

This is the reply I have gotten when trying to unlock an iPhone 3Gs that I purchase off eBay. I did have an account with AT&T, but I don't remember if I had this phone on the contract before paying an ETF. Luckily the original receipt came with the phone when I purchased it, hope they take it. I'm once again waiting to see what AT&T will do. Really it doesn't matter much, the phone is jailbroken and unlocked with ultrasn0w, but it would be nice to not have to fuss with that any longer.

What do u mean? I unloked some iphones on chat in earlier days! Then i got the unlock case filed via fone! And they unlocked two! Third one is still under processing! I dont know whats current scene now!

Try calling them again n again! U might get lucky!

Some agent told me yesterday to wait 48 hours... Im going to wait.. actually I feel tired, everyday calls, chat, emails, and nothing and now we have been change our policy!!! and is not easy to find someone that want to help...

cheers!!

I called like 6 times yesterday until I finally got someone to do it for me. She said the latest resolution date would be May 9. I got the same e-mail as other people have that's a pdf document with unlock instructions. However, one thing I noticed was that my document said something like "a request has been sent" while other peoples' document said something more like you have been approved".

The tech support girl did say that she was going to e-mail me with the instructions first and I needed to wait for a second e-mail with the unlock code and then I could follow the instructions she sent me. I tried restoring anyway but I didn't get the unlock screen in itunes. But when I checked IMEI.info, it says SIM locked: no.

I'm wondering if my phone is unlocked or not, since I don't have a non att micro sim card to test it out yet. Is it unlocked since it says SIM locked: no ? I still haven't gotten an e-mail with the unlock code but I don't think you need the unlock code.

I had a 3GS unlocked before and I waited a couple days for the e-mail until I finally decided to try putting a sim card in. It worked then and I didn't get the e-mail with the unlock code until almost a week later.
