I submitted an iPhone 3GS the day the unlock became available. Still waiting for the case to be completed. I just checked again with AT&T, and they are just saying "it is being worked on". I am a bit afraid that it never got entered right as it was the first "iPhone unlock" the person I spoke to processed back then.

A day later, I submitted an iPhone 3, and it was unlocked in about a week.

Has anybody had success submitting a phone a second time for the unlock? My hope is that the second time will work better if the first case got messed up.

You might want to restore your 3GS now and see if it comes up unlocked. I got an initial email saying my case was being looked into, but no confirmation either way (past the stated April 27 deadline). So this weekend I figured I'd restore before calling again and checking up. Lo and behold, I got the message and it accepted a T-Mobile SIM. Could very well be the same case with you, it's hard to believe they'd still be working on it at this point. Good luck!

Same for me... I just paid 40.000 colones my local currency and I make a switch with an employee of apple for another iphone... is the same just is factory unlock...
AT&T treat us as nothing, even when we paid for those useless iphones.. Saturday I called them in order to get information why my case was denied, I ask for the supervisor and he told me, I need your account holder information, I said to him... I dont have any account, I bought it at no commitment price, he told me, miss I cant do anything this service is just to att customers :O
WHAT!!! I'd make the request on april 17, I attached my proof of purchase, then my iphone is not going to get it unlock due security policies?? what the hell is this.. and guess what... he hangs up the call... I wish somebody of Quality of customer service take care of this... at the end of all this journey att for me are thieves... I hope someone be able to make a lawsuit regarding all this, because we are a lot of people at the same placed as me... paying full price and even we can use it...

This is what they told me as well.

I made my request BEFORE the new policy when everyone was getting their devices unlocked; regardless whether they had an AT&T account or not.

They, however, said I am ineligible for unlock under the new rules.

They are just retards who think they can apply new rules TO APPLICATIONS THAT WERE MADE BEFORE THE NEW RULE; APPLICATIONS THAT WERE ON HOLD....

Just bias. Say no more.

I never heard of this company until recently, never want to hear about them again and will never want to deal with them.

I feel sorry for AT&T customers. I read about their CEO's recent comments as well lol.

They failed to run this unlocking service. Crappy management. Bias decisions. Just retarded.

What a shame.

Fail.

So next time you should purchase a factory unlocked iphone instead of one that's locked to a particular carrier.
AT&T hasnt been unlocking iphones at all and they just started so its a move towards the right direction from them. Sucks that you're frustrated and cant unlock yours but it is what it is. You can always sell it to an AT&T customer and put the money towards an unlocked iphone.

I really don't understand all the anger toward AT&T. The are well within their rights to unlock phones for only their customers. I feel I was fortunate they included former customers. If I had purchased a phone from a company I never had dealings with I wouldn't expect them to care much for me.....which would mean I wouldn't have bought the phone. Why would you buy a phone locked to a carrier you don't use? Unless you planned on jailbreaking and unlocking with ultrasn0w, which would beg the question why complain now about a choice you made?

It seems that AT&T doesn't even bother to reply that my request has been denied. Just got an e-mail telling me that my issue has been resolved.

Anyone with an AT&T account willing to lend a hand?

I asked my friend who has the at&t phone number to contact those ******* services already, and things was quite ok, until they told him the phone IMEI is not from at&T
wtf I can only activate my iphone by using their SIM card
dont understand why, felling fully frustrated

I see where you're coming from.

But dude, don't you get it?

Even if I was an AT&T customer, what if I was to go on holiday or move abroad?

If I pay for 24 months contract or the termination fee, why on earth does AT&T still keep my phone locked?

I'm not liable to any charges and I don't owe them anything isn't it? So why should I still be tied with them?

Once the contract is over, its OVER!

They locked the phone in the first place, so they are the ones who should be unlocking it when the time is due!

Why are they discriminating? Because I'm not an AT&T customer, why should I be denied an unlocking service? Where is the business aspect or logical aspect in that decision?

Even if I was an AT&T customer and if I'm asking for an unlock then its more likely that I'm going to switch operators. So what's the difference between unlocking devices for current AT&T customers and non-AT&T customers?

Isn't it more logical and business beneficial to win the hearts and minds of Non-AT&T customers all over the world with an excellent customer service? This could've been an excellent opportunity for them to "show off". They failed this perhaps never thought of this when they started this unlocking service all of a sudden with no planning at all.

They are unlocking it for their current customers, well I understand that that's a kind gesture. But why not non AT&T customers? Shouldn't they be the priority since they live abroad so therefore they can't use any service? Why is AT&T forcing me to use my iPhone as an iTouch?

Matter fact why did this "only AT&T customers eligible" rule came into effect after a long while? Did they "clock" something too late? Or was it their retarded decision in the first place? Perhaps lack of project scope and no planning? Corner shop perhaps yes, but I'm sorry such company like AT&T can't be this amateur.

Indeed, they started this service recently which is a good step but hey the whole universe had this service from the beginning of time...Wake up Mademoiselle Valerie.

And mind, EVERY SINGLE ONE OF US WHO REQUESTED AN UNLOCK WAS TOLD SOMETHING TOTALLY DIFFERENT. WE CALL THIS BEING BIAS, NOT KNOWING WHAT TO DO. LETS CALL IT "TRIPPIN".

I buy whatever iDevice in any country on any network and as long as there is no contract or not reported lost or stolen; I can get it unlocked. Except for a company called AT&T. Well just recently they changed their attitude but hey I still can't get it unlocked.

Forget it.

Fail.

Because those unlocks do actually cost them time and money.
CSR reps don't work for free.
Following up on impatient customers who fail to realize just what a pain in the ass it is to unlock and iPhone compared to every other phone out there, costs money.

Even if I was an AT&T customer and if I'm asking for an unlock then its more likely that I'm going to switch operators. So what's the difference between unlocking devices for current AT&T customers and non-AT&T customers?
They will for current and former customers.

See my previous comment on the non-AT&T customer. It costs them time and money.
Neither of which they care to expend on someone who has never spent a dime with them.

No, they didn't.
Apple didn't have an unlocking service for the first couple of years.

Really??? How many AT&T phones would O2 or Orange or any other carrier for that matter unlock.... oh that's right, none.
Many of those carriers would only unlock devices issued by them, not other carriers.

Sucks to be you.
When you purchased it you fully knew it was locked and AT&T was NOT unlocking any iPhones right?
You can scream and cry all you want but you put yourself in that position.

uh? I paid full price, it supposed to be unlocked... Anyways now mine is unlocked, of course I paid for it, but... this $165 worth it... it takes less than 12 hours...

It also costs CSR's to buy fish and chips.

What are you on about? Of course they cost.

Who you think pays their wages? Your dad?

My mate told me he got his iPhone unlocked via chat in 15 minutes? All that has to be done is to send a request to the servers. Copy paste my IMEI.

Matter fact, do you know how many customers those CSR's could've served instead of focusing on one single customer and back handing his requests several times?

In my previous post, count how many questions marks I used and you only addressed costs wise. Mind, AT&T spends millions on marketing and PR's within the U.S. With this new unlocking service, never mind U.S. but they could've reached thousands of people around the world just by paying CRS's for a month or two. Why else do you keep CSR's anyway? Do you know how important it is to keep and ATTRACT new customers? Do you know how much AT&T spends on marketing and PR?

Do you know it's going to be a "no way" challenge to win back those potential customers who they back handed for not having an "active AT&T account" ?

Who are the AT&T customers? No matter who you are, a company of this level should approach to anyone with professionalism and not by using stock and bias decisions. Certainly shouldn't amend their "new" policy everyday. I wonder why they keep changing anyway. Again, perhaps lack of planning in the first place.

WHERE DID I SAY A CARRIER WOULD UNLOCK ANOTHER CARRIER'S DEVICE? Stop tripping by partially reading posts. I said wherever I buy an iDevice on whatever network; they will unlock it if there is no outstanding contract and device is not reported lost or stolen. Just like O2 and Orange. You don't have to be an active customer for 60 days, you don't need proof of purchase or anything like that. Unlike AT&T.

Don't ever run a business.

P.s next time if you're going to quote some one make sure you don't just read but also try to understand their post.

After my post.... reading your bias post reminds me of my history classes; concentration camps. A place where many suits.

Why don't you try and understand the actual point?

I bought an AT&T locked iPhone. I knew it was going to be locked. Now they offer unlocking but they discriminate between customers. That was the whole point of my post which you flopped on it big time.

I also bought Vodafone and o2 locked mobiles in the past. They were all unlocked at the end of their contract. I didn't had to think ways to convince them to unlock well I certainly didn't search on forum sites to have them unlocked. Unlike AT&T.

Non AT&T customers can't unlock but current customers can unlock up to 5 devices.

Again, fail.

Next time try to understand before you reply and please don't tease AT&T. You're making them look worse than they are.

Fail.

Not at all important to cater to people in other countries . AT&T is a american company . So who cares if someone in tibet throws a tantrum ..

They keep changing the policy because of people like yourself who feel they are entitled to a unlock even after buying the phone when there was no chance of a unlock at the time of purchase .

The bottom line is that AT&T had no clue how overwhelming the response would be for iPhone unlocks. There is simply no other way to explain their recent policy changes. If this wasn't true, we wouldn't have seen many, many non-customers get unlocks in the first 2 weeks.

So in an attempt to right their wrongs (aka ease their burden), they implemented new policies and in the midst, screwed over a lot of people. And that includes both non-customers AND AT&T subscribers, as seen with this new wrinkle about the iPhone having to have been tied to your account. If the device isn't lost/stolen and isn't tied to any current contract or unpaid fees, why can't a current paying customer get it unlocked? That defies logic to me.

If you can't see how this whole unlocking debacle would blacken their eye, so to speak, you have to be an AT&T fanboy.

hi i was just wondering...

if im buying an iphone that someone bought on contract but they aren't using it on an active line, but still using that line with another phone

can i get an ATT unlock?

No sense? The guy from the store told me that was unlocked...
And now you're out an additional $165 on top of the full price of the phone.
I would have gone back to the store that you bought it from and demanded an explanation.

Depends. You need to find out if the phone is still under contract or not.
Usage is irrelevant to the contract.
But if it's no longer under contract, then yes, they can have it unlocked for you.

they said they bought it 3 months ago, im not sure if it's out of contract or not? how do i check that and what qualifies the phone as out of contract?

I understand perfect, you don't seem like you want to understand or accept their policy. Wether right or wrong or unfair it's up to them to unlock AT&T locked iPhones according to rules they set and can change at any time.
Whining about it here won't make any difference. I just suggested you next time get an unlocked iPhone. Nice and simple solution.
you'll get over it eventually.

No sense? The guy from the store told me that was unlocked...

The guy at the AT&T store was either mistaken or just lied to you.

I would suggest getting a refund if your actually a student because you clearly cant comprehend anything .

Wrong , i did know when i purchased my 4s i could get it unlocked . Im a current customer with my account in good standing and have the receipt .

So your whole basis for argument is others that are clearly eligible under their policy got unlocked but you who dont qualify should be unlocked too?

Total fail ? I got 2 unlocked so far with 3 more unlocks available . How about yourself?
