Anybody get an AT&T sanctioned Unlock?

Just got my Black 16g iphone 4 AT&T unlocked. Called they did their thing sent me the email, told me to restore, got off phone connected restore BAM! you phone is unlocked. All within 30mins.

Oh I have my oringinal receipt too...I'll scan and make availiable for however wants it..Dated 6/29/2010
 
I'm still waiting. It was indicated on the phone Tuesday with ATT Tech support that it would likely be done within a few hours. But it hadn't worked yet within the next day, and I've been on a diversion since my Mac Pro acted up (which I have iTunes installed on).
 
Got mine. Never got the email but i checked the IMEI and got the SIM Locked message as No. Since I'm jailbroken I just used the Deactivate feature in Redsn0w, rebooted and plugged into iTunes and got the congratulations message on being unlocked.

I called 3 weeks ago, got my email and I've restored many times. I have still not received the unlocked notice via itunes. I need to call back but haven't had time
 
Just got my email from AT&T with unlock instuctions and I did a backup, restore and still my phone isn't unlocked. I have tried checking my IMEI # on various sites and it shows that my phone is unlocked, but when i goto settings, i have no access to the carrier settings. Anyone know what gives? I don't want to do a restore & backup from restore again as it takes forever!

Having access to the carrier settings has nothing to do wether the phone is unlocked or not.
It's a carrier config file that is up to certain carrier restrictions, some let you mess with those settings others wont.
You might need to install custom apn files or to JB your device to access those options but it doesnt mean it is not unlocked.

Well in the past when I unlocked my phone via jailbreak methods, I've always had a carrier settings menu. Thats how I was able to tell whether it was unlocked or not. So you're saying my phone is already unlocked even though I don't have access to the carrier settings?

Yes.
You said the magic word, via JB. If you JB your iphone you will have that option again.
Again that is not a way of determining wether the phone is unlocked or not.
If various imei sites tell you its unlocked then it is. Or you can test out other carriers sims or you if get the message after you restore on itunes that your iphone is unlocked then it is.
Carrier settings do no equal unlocked iphone.

Hey guys I just bought an Iphone 3GS from Ebay and I am pretty sure the contract is completed on it. I called ATT today and gave them the IMEI numba to unlock it. At first the repp said that the phoned is registered under some other name (ofcourse it is) but than I told him that my mom gave me this phone and she doesnt have ATT account so I would like to unlock this iphone under my account. Than the repp did something and said yeah he was able to send the unlock request. He told me to sync with itunes within 5-7.
What do you guys think, do I have any luck or should I go ahead and unlock the iphone via redsnow.

You are ok.
Dont install the ipad bb if that's what you had in mind.
Wait a week or so and sync your iphone with itunes and you should be good.
 
Do I turn off iCloud first?

Just got the email from AT&T with the backup and restore instructions. If I use iCloud to do backups do I need to disable that first before I can backup via iTunes? So the steps should be:

  1. Turn off iCloud backups on iPhone
  2. Backup iPhone via iTunes
  3. Restore iPhone via iTunes

I plan on staying on AT&T with my current plan for the time being. Just wanted to unlock it in anticipation of a September iPhone upgrade.

Something magical happened. After just one day, I plugged the iphone into itunes and I popped tmobile sim and it said T mobile service automatically and is fully functional on it. WOWW. I didnt even restore or anything. What just happened :confused::confused:
 
I had my at&t iPhone 4 unlocked today. After unlocking it had to restore it once again thanks to absinthe 2.04 that gave me an error while jailbreaking it.

Once I restore it again, the unlock message hasn't show up again. Do it only shows once during the unlock, or it has to show every time after a restore?

It's my iPhone lock again thanks to the restore?

No, once its unlocked officially it does never lock again to any carrier.
 
I bought an iPhone 4 off someone locally (more of an acquaintance) and when I called AT&T today, they told me they could not unlock the device since I did not buy the phone from an authorized retailer and did not have a receipt.

I have all of the information from the old owner (phone was swapped out once before at an Apple Store) but I don't have the receipt and I am 100% positive the phone is not tied into a contact (had someone at Apple verify that).

What other option do I have for unlocking it?

Edit: Called back in and the lady said she had to make a 'case' about it and gave me the case number. They said someone would call me on the evening of August 27th. Jesus, I have to wait that long? Ha, I'll probably call back in Monday and tell them that I need an unlock code faster than that since I'm leaving the country and that is the truth.. I need an unlocked phone for my trip to China.

Tell At&t you bought it off ebay. It's very possible the contract is not completed so you may have to wait. Otherwise you could purchase unlocking service from a third party such as ebay.

There is no unlock code with iphones.
You will have to wait since a case has been put in with your iphones IMEI number.
No other option, you can call again but it wont make it happen any faster.

Gotcha. Didn't mean to put unlock code as I'm familiar with how it works with iTunes and them putting the unlock in the firmware. Just wasn't thinking as I was typing. Thanks for the info, Applejuiced.

Hey guys, so at first I called at&t and tried to do it but the lady said I had to get the original owner to do it. Since I dont know who he is, I used my friends info to get past all that and they didnt say anything. So I gave him my imei and he was doing it but then he said he got an error but it doesn't say why! so he said he'll call the technical support and they also got the error but they dont know why. So he told me it cant be done :(
So I attempted to try another time this time using the online chat thing. The guy told my friend he cant help and gave him a link to send a request https://www.att.com/deviceunlock/client/en_US/
So they emailed me and told me they'll review my request and I have to wait 5-7 days.
I dont know what to do next :( and do you think I have a chance?
