I have an iPhone 4 with AT&T and my contract ends in September of this year. If I pay my ETF and cancel my contract can I still get it unlocked by AT&T?

Why would you wait 2 months and pay the ETF..? You can have it unlocked in september w/o any issues.

Sure, you can pay the ETF now and call AT&T and have it unlocked and thats not the smartest option.

They told me the same.
To fax in proof but I never did.
A few days later the phone was unlocked.
Hope it works out the same for you.

I have already rewrited 2 times my case..And support always said that i had to send receipt by fax...Iam stuck now..((

Did you try to check to see if its unlocked?

My daughter gave me her dead iPhone 4. I took it to Apple and got it replaced for $149. I then called AT&T to have the replacement unlocked and they told me no. Didn't want to deal with their aggravation and found the lowest price unlocker that advertised on eBay ($60). I then found he was $5 cheaper through his website unlockmycarrier.com. I keep reading of people paying $100-$150 to have it unlocked. That's NUTS!

Took about 2 hrs after payment and all was fine. My wife is now using it on T-Mo. I then took her old unlocked by ATT 3GS and sold it on eBay for $230 about 3 hours after posting.

Dont pay that.
When the new iphone comes out and you start a new contract with it on AT&T your old 4S becomes eligable for an official unlock.
You just gotta call AT&T.

sounds good, thanks! i will only be eligible for partial subsidized price for the phone since my contract isn't officially over till october 2013, but i'll still take what i can get w/o paying etf or a third party vendor to unlock. thanks again for the response!

So I've got the email from AT&T 3 months ago about my old 3GS is eligible for unlock, I restored it today but got stuck on the cannot activate screen. I had only an active t-mo sim card to insert into the phone. Anybody with any idea why it's not going through the activation process? I did the same to my iPhone 4 last week with no problem and it's working fine on t-mo now. Tried calling AT&T support as well, but they seem pretty clueless. Any tips or advices is greatly appreciated.

AT&T would not unlock my 4S but I saw on my local Craigslist someone advertising a factory unlock for $55 through PayPal. I took the plunge and it worked, took less than two days.

Actually I just realized member TBO7 posted about the unlockmycarrier that I used.

Contract for my iphone ends in January, but I'd figure I'd give the online chat a shot since many people were reporting success. On my 3rd representative I got a nice lady who unlocked my phone!

Might just try that if AT&T decides to be a bunch of jerks. :p

Id try another restore. If its still not unlocked you should call AT&T. Don't give up, you will eventually get someone that knows what they're doing.
