I won't lie. I get that tendency of buyer's remorse. Here's why though: I haven't tried it.
I'm a rational buyer...or at least these days. I used to buy annually until I realized I could be saving a lot of money if I kept the phone for few years.

Of course, I will return if I don't like, so I'll give a fair trial with x. IF x plus came out, I know I won't regret it.
It's not that I can't afford it, but I'm all about saving money, but at the same time, I would like to try a new design/tech.
That's why I got an 8. Can't go wrong with three year tech.

Don't feel unusual if you experience this, and don't underestimate the Hype Machine If you feel that uncomfortable feeling, cancel and save yourself some stress.

I was having buyer’s remorse so I canceled my preorder. I fell for the X hype, but realized that I do not want to unlock my phone with my face and I don’t want to go back to using a passcode. I think Apple dropped by the ball by not including a fingerprint scanner in some way.

Since I needed a phone ASAP, I purchased an iPhone 7 (don’t think the iPhone 8 is worth the extra money) to hold me over until next year, and I’ll see what Apple does then.
You're just being rational.

True, but it wouldn't hurt to try something new...or at least give it a fair chance to see how I like it/ or adapt to it.

TouchID most likely won't come back... just an FYI.

Don't feel unusual if you experience this, and don't underestimate the hype machine; they have you coming and going. If you feel that uncomfortable feeling, cancel and save yourself some stress. You should feel NO stress or discomfort from this. But if you do, don't Blame yourself, the whole thing is rigged to entrap you. Not to say they do this deliberately, they don't. It just ends up that way, and you know what?

They ain't complainin. 😀
It's pretty deliberate, EVERY company wants to be able to build as much hype around their products as Apple is able to.

Having just watched CNET editor Brians take on the iPhone X pre order shenanigans last Friday has got me rethinking my purchase....

Here's a link to the video if you havent seen it.

Basically he was saying how the preordering of his iPhone X left him feeling sickly afterwards.

And I agree with him. As soon as i pressed that buy button last Friday a weird feeling came over me too - almost like a feeling of guilt.

£1000 for a PHONE! Thats all I kept thinking in my head. The thing is i needed a new iPhone because my launch day 6 was performing badly battery-wise and speed so I was close to buying the iPhone 8 on release but i got caught up in all the X hype so i decided to wait.

Now the pre order buzz is over, and after watching Brian's aftermath thoughts, its got me thinking again- do i REALLY need the iPhone X or am i just getting it because i can, since i know ill be more than able to get by with an 8.

The only thing the iPhone X has over the 8 that i care about mainly is the dual camera, bigger screen/smaller format as i hate mammoth sized phones hence why i don't want to get the iPhone 8 Plus.

And i get it, Apple are a company that's in the business of making LOADS of money but let's be honest, Apple have been calculated sneaky buggers! i think they could've easily made an edge to edge LCD screen for the 8 and many people would have been happy with that; myself included. And would have been enough of handset design change without stealing too much thunder from the flagship X.

TL;DR

The way I'm feeling now is, when my X arrives in 2-3wks I'm probably going to play around with it for the two weeks and see if the novelty wears off then return it for the 8, use the money saved and buy some other tech goodies like some much needed bluetooth headphones ...Hmm we'll see.
I saw his video a few days ago and he struck me as a very immature person.

If you felt guilty for making the purchase, you need to ask yourself if the feelings you had are the result of outside influence or from within. If they are from within, that is a red flag to you, that you screwed up. It doesn't matter if others have remorse. It only matters how you are currently handling your own affairs.

The following isn't directed to you.

I have noticed that there appears to be a lot of insecure, immature, shallow people on this forum. And the reason I say that is, from the plethora of threads and posts asking who got what color phone, case, should I get this flavor or that flavor etc. There is even a new thread about what friends and family have said about some getting the new phone.

Its one thing to seek technical guidance on electronics and accessories. It is quit another to base one's actions on what others think.

It amazes me that so many apparently can't make basic purchase decisions without asking the permission of the MacRumors forum first. So many appear to be more focused on status thnt being able to function as a self-sustaining mature adult capable of making decisions without asking billy, sue, or joe what the flavor of the week is.

In the grand scheme of life, the purchase of an iPhone is but a flake of sand on a ocean beach. However, if your actions bring forth a tidal wave that destroys your life's beach, the focus should be on why the tidal wave came about, not the iPhone X and things related thereto.

It is a wonder so many here are able to get out of bed in the morning without first having to take Xanax, Ambien, or some other coping drug while they spend their time focused on having the correct color gadget that others will stop and take notice of.

Our society is in trouble.

I upgraded via my carrier I’m on a contract already so I didn’t pay £1000 for mine.

Gettin it on launch day an couldn’t be more excited.

I'm having, I didn't get in line for first delivery order remorse. Delivery slated for November 14 or 17..something like that. Hopefully will be bumped up.

Of course $1220 (I’m including tax) is an insane price for a phone. I was nauseous and “depressed” myself thinking about after the keynote. And yes the 64 instead of 128 model is slimy.

Had the preorder happened simultaneously with the 8 I would not have partaken. I needed time to seriously think it over. Ultimately I really wanted a bigger screen so I had to swallow hard. I’m excited for Friday now but I know I’ll be sad when the bill arrives just the same.

I think Apple might have made a deal with the devil here though. The X is so expensive I wonder if it won’t slow the rate of annual upgraders. This is def. a two year+ phone for me.

I don’t feel any remorse, but can understand why some people might. I always buy myself lower to mid-tier versions of things because I rarely need the top of the line. This time I saw something I liked and as it’s something I use every single day decided to get the higher end.

I’m not determining my worth by it. I’m not going to put it on display to tell people how great I am. It’ll be in a case in my pocket. It’s for me. I wanted it. I can afford it. That’s about the extent of the analysis. I’m kind of surprised by how many people I’ve seen in the various iPhone “communities” dealing with serious anguish about this.

A little bit. But I’m hoping it goes away when I get it. If it doesn’t I can always sell it. And I say sell it because I’d have a restocking fee if returned.

On the one hand it’s everything I’ve been saying I wanted in an iPhone for years almost to a T. On the other hand it’s at least $200 more than I expected to pay to get that.

Heck no. I don't do much outside of grad school, work, and hanging with friends. Guitars and tech toys are my only weaknesses. I've been waiting all year for this!

biggest issues are if you cant afford don't kill yourself to buy it only to impress others. For me who is from India don't have any issues because we have always bought expensive iPhones.

The price between the US and the India unit was always higher by 15 percent.

If you feel 'sickly' about ordering the phone then chances are you shouldn't have done it to begin with. For me? Just a tax write off in my eyes.

Never thought there would come a time where a “phone” would cost so much to be considered a tax write off.

Love all the assurances from forum members that they can “afford it”.

The bigger question is it worth that much money? Is it smarter to save $200 to $400? Often people who are not very good with their money can always find a reason to spend that extra $200 to $400. That’s why they don’t have any money.

Nope. Not one bit. I’ve been waiting for an all-screen iPhone for a while and we’re finally here now. Friday can’t get here fast enough.

Not many of us even have the phone, so we can't really say. Even one week is not enough time to formulate an opinion. We are all prisoners of the moment and we want instant gratification and something new again. We are intoxicated by early hype.

I don't think it will sell as well as Apple believes it will. At least not early on with that price. Yeah, mostly everyone in this forum will get it and every hardcore Apple fanatic. But after that? I think 8 / 8 Plus will get a second lease in life. Everyone watching reviews will be asking themselves is it worth it? If it isn't, then they can go for the 8 or something else.

X doesn't offer much beyond a new design / form factor and Face ID. OLED isn't new tech. Animoji is not interesting for adults. Do you really want to record your voice? I hate hearing my voice when it's recorded. Sounds weird. And gesture control is software-based. Apple can add it by 11.3 for older iPhones to use.
