I got so used to the notch and the rounded corners of the screen that I can't imagine going back.
the notch gives the X a very noticeable profile... when I open an app that doesn't embrace the notch, the phone literally looks like any other phone with an "all screen" design. I love the particular character it gives the phones. Also props to apple for nice using the software to embrace the notch.
I don't mind the notch.
Hardly watch videos so notch isn't an issue!
The thinner 19.5:9 aspect ratio makes landscape viewing like piss due to the lesser width and longer height. So notch again not an issue!
I think they designed iPhone X to be used in portrait in mind and that's how it should be. If you really value landscape usage, then the iPhone 8+ is a better deal at a lower price. 16:9 has a better width ratio which would make landscape usage viable for those who need it.

I don't hate the notch and I think it's the best way to do it for an all-screen design that needs a camera system in front. I use my phone every day and I've paid a lot more for things that I used a lot less so unless the iPhone costs $3000, I don't think I have to try to justify it.
I know right you get used to it so freaking quickly... some people just wanna harp and harp on apple's flawed design as an obvious negatives but they haven't tried putting themselves in THEIR SHOES... -_-
