Ouch, I have a headache.

The definition is having the entire front face be screen as much as possible. All the android phones failed to eliminate the chin because they don't want to invest in the expensive folded driver circuit.

I have no idea how the Plus models are full screen in any sense of the word.

Exactly. The existing iPhones have bezels. They are =not= full screen. The X is as close as anything gets right now, and probably as close as anyone's going to for several years.

lol ok, try watching a video fullscreen landscape on the X and compare it to any other iphone. One of these is not like the other and is missing some details with the notch.

LOL back at you. I have, but you apparently haven't. Amazon Prime, the native "TV" app, YouTube and several other video apps all are "full screen" by your definition. In other words, they are not "missing some details with the notch."

Thanks for posting, though.

Full screen examples or wide screen to be exact. No notch.

Missing what details? I don't get it.

Then it’s not full screen. lol.
So? if you had an iPhone 8 it is never full screen because the top and bottom parts are not made of screen.
Do you want to have the option to pinch in? Or do you just want to never have the option to pinch in? It is pretty obvious one of these choices is superior to the other because it includes the functionality of the other.

The way that I see it, you lose out on screen real estate because of the notch. I wouldn't hate it so much if it wasn't included in the screen measurement - since it's "corner to corner", you could technically have 4 notches and still call it a 5.8" screen.

By your logic watching a video on my Apple Watch is full screen because it’s a square with nothing cut off.
The x default image is exactly like an 8. It has the “option” to make it go to the edges but you don’t need to do this if you don’t like it.
Try eliminating the huge bezels on the 8’s that way.

I think more people don't mind the notch than actually love it.

Do you really think content will be displayed like that? If people start loving the notch, what next? Asking for a notch for movie theater screens and their next TV?

I hope Apple rids of it by 2020-2021. Then we can revisit this thread years later and laugh at the people loving it now. Not many here have much foresight beyond a day or the next minute. Prisoner of the moment.

I find the notch cheap and unprofessional.
For a $1000+ phone, especially coming from Apple ... putting a notch in the field of view is a design flaw IMHO.
If it were a no-name Chinese phone costing $50, I could put up with a mega-notch.
It's all about expectations for my money, especially from a reputable, flagship vendor.

It’s really not noticeable. Hell, so many apps are still not supporting the screen that it honestly looks like an iPhone 8 but with the status icons tucked away in the bezels.

What bugs me is the home bar. It doesn’t need to be there. It should be an accessibility feature for those who struggle with the gestures and nothing more.

IMO, that is a fair comment/complaint.

I believe they will put this into the settings to make an option to toggle off. It will be there by default. Its needed for the majority of the population till they get used to it.

Maybe I don’t get it ?

Maybe Wile E. Coyote is hiding behind that notch ?

What app is that? (Curiosity)

Opinion: that's piss-poor app design. It's hard to believe that the developer thought that was a good use of the "ears" (the space on either side of The Notch). For some apps (easy example: Mail) having the notch showing doesn't really matter, in either portrait or landscape. Other apps may be fine in portrait mode, but less good in landscape mode. What you've shown is just plain bad, I agree.

Comment: if it fouls up an app to have the notch and ears, either Apple should have used a top bezel like some Android displays, or Apple's app rules should (benevolently?) prevent developers from using that space in bad ways. The problem with that is that if devs can't use that space, we don't really have a bezel-free display. So maybe my bottom line is that I don't hate it, but it seems like a pointless design choice? Not sure, still thinking about this (along with a lot of other issues with the X).

Anyway, thanks for the response, I hadn't seen that kind of issue in my use of the phone.

The notch is the most expensive option to make. The more you know.

Instead of hating the notch and totally avoiding the iPhone X and any future iPhone, like most clearly agitated people on this thread who will probably have to use an iPhone 8 until “2020-2021” why not live in the moment and appreciate it

Would a full-width bar be preferable?

What's a full-width bar?

So are the huge bezels on the oversized brick that it is a plus sized iPhone.

As far as I'm concerned, the notch provides a means to get some additional content stored either side of it that would otherwise be taking up screen underneath an unnecessarily large bezel. It looks fine. Don't love it, don't hate. It just is what it is, and that's where good design just works.

Personally the bezels were never before or now a problem.
Its a terrible design and a terrible idea. They wanted to get rid of the bezels and they did it by putting out an uneven screen with ears on the side and sensors and the ear speaker in the middle of that.
Totally idiotic idea.

This is a very weird thread. Loving an eye sore just because the tech doesn't exist to hide it yet. The notch isn't horrendous but something to love? Crazy.

LMAO :D
Tell me about it, its pure nonsense.
They love it because we really gotta have a bezel-less smartphone now. All of a sudden bezels are bad:D
And that's all Apple could do and put up the notch, they had no choice so give them $999:D
