the lack of customization is "boring" i'll admit unless your a Jailbreaker but the iphone is the best quality device on the market.

I am bored with my iPhone.....But I'm getting an iPhone 5. Dual-core processors, and even better camera than the amazing one that's in my current iPhone and a larger screen will give me at least another year of enjoyment.

Yeah I have to say I kind of agree with the OP. Although I have always loved iPhones (even the runt of a phone the original one was). I'm getting kind of bored of them.

They're without a doubt the most usable phone on the market and they do everything so much more sleekly than anything else out there. But I think the issue in general is just that iPhone is now the only real choice. People will bleat on about Android and say this is better and that's better, but the truth is they either A. couldn't afford an iPhone or B. bought one because they wanted to be different. Blackberry users are usually born out of a need to be one of those business types, you know the ones they sit on the underground writing emails they can't send.

So in short I think the slight boredom of owning an iPhone is the lack or decent alternatives. 10 Years ago pretty much all your friends had different model handsets nowadays 50% of your friends have iPhones and the rest have a mix of blackberry’s and android handsets. The time where you could impress your friends with the new "cool" features on your phones has gone, the only time this will happen is for about a month after a new iPhone is released but even that's becoming more of a stretch!

"Oooh check out my new 8 megapixel camera it's marginally clearer than my old 5 megapixel one" doesn't draw the same awe as; "Check out my new rendition of Axel F in all its Polyphonic glory on my shiny new Nokia!".

I'm bored until I see someone struggling with a different handset. Then I realize, wow...glad I have an iPhone 4...lol.

I know that sounds crass, or condescending, but I've seen so many people as of late struggling with their Android handsets at where I work. Issues connecting to Exchange, or to our VPN. I know it's cliche, but the iPhone [and iPads] do "Just work". So when I get that urge of "Hey, I think I need a change", I immediately think of those folks having issues, and just stay put...

I got bored of my iPhone 3g. What makes the phone in my opinion is the operating system. iOS is simply awesome for its simplicity. Its very easy to pick up and learn.

My wife has the iPhone 3Gs and I used the iPhone 4 from a bunch of my friends and it feels the same. Now some would argue this is good but I don't feel iOS 5 from what I've seen is a big leap in terms of feeling innovative.

So I opted for the Samsung Infuse 4g with Gingerbread 2.3 and LOVE IT!

It took a while to get use to coming from the iPhone but I just love all the customization that I have.

I wanted something really different from iOS and that is why I switched. I still love my iPad and OSX though ;)

Try to go a day or two without your iPhone, then come back and tell me how bored you are with it.

Agreed. I went to Europe for six weeks, and couldn't use my phone while there (except in wi-fi areas, which there were surprisingly few of) and it really made me realize how much I rely on it nowadays.

I think anything can get boring after 3-4 years and having a stock OS that has pretty much looked the same. Even the first three generation of iPhones looked the same. How to spice things up is JB or try other phones. If it is not fulfilling, then find other hobbies. Right now, we will see more improvement over innovation. A time of refining. Less gamechangers which is something I can't expect to happen often.

No, I'm not bored with my iPhone.

To me it's a bit like complaining about being bored with your silverware and going out to buy new forks & spoons because the new ones are so much cooler.

It's a tool. It does what I need, and well. /

Everyone gets bored with even really cool stuff if they've had it for ages and are used to it. I personally have two phones, one main phone, which is always some sort of iPhone, and a cheaper phone, which changes regularly. At the moment, the cheaper phone is a BlackBerry, but it's been unreliable, as has my previous BB, so I'm replacing it with a HTC Hero, which I'll have great fun installing custom ROMs on :)

I got 'bored' of the iPhone for a while and tried a Galaxy S last year. While it was nice to have something new (at the time) and a bit different, it didn't take much time before I longed for an iPhone again. Although seeing the same thing every day for several years (referring to the iOS design) can feel dull at times, you've got to remember the huge benefits the iPhone has:

  • Apps. It's simply got the best apps and the most of them. In my experience, any Android exclusives are exclusive because they're not up to the iPhone's standards.
  • Stability. In general, iPhones seem to be the most reliable smartphone out there.
  • Performance. Considering the iPhone 4 has a single-core chip clocked at around 800 MHz, it's incredible how well it performs with iOS 4 and 5, games etc. iOS' clever multi-tasking approach helps with that tremendously. My Galaxy S suffered massively from slow-downs due to multiple background apps that were running full-blast.
  • Battery life. Again, partly thanks to iOS' multi-tasking technique and the marriage of hardware and software, the iPhone probably has the best battery life of any fully-featured smartphone. My Galaxy S had shockingly poor battery life and it was a huge relief when I switched to my iPhone 4.
  • The Retina Display. Although a lot of people seem to want larger displays these days (I do, but only a 3.7" or 4" at the most), all the competition can't compete with the beautiful clarity of the Retina Display, in my opinion.
  • Integration with Mac OS, iCloud in the future etc. Although a lot of iPhone users don't have Macs/don't want them, the full Apple experience is a pretty awesome one for those who enjoy it.

And, of course, the iPhone 5 will debut soon. It will (hopefully) raise the bar of these standards even higher. I think that if you were to get a Galaxy S II now, you'd regret that decision rather a lot as soon as you see the iPhone 5. Again, this is all my opinion.

Android just looks hideous to me no matter phone you put it in ... hardware wise ... some of the new phones are phenomenal but when it switches on and you see the horrible looking android os .. uggh!

Depends. Samsung and Motorola's Android interfaces are terrible, as are a few others, and I personally think stock Android is a bit too basic, but HTC Sense is beautiful.

If Apple would simply allow widgets on the iOS desktop/dashboard, it would resolve 90% of my gripes. I love the iPhone. It's without a doubt the best (most stable, reliable) phone on the market - IT JUST WORKS. But, it is getting a little boring. I started with the 3GS, then got the iP4 a year or so ago. Out of boredom, I JB the phone. The JB was fun, and I ended up JB'ing my iPad 2 as well. Ultimately, even the JB'ing became a pain in the arss. I ended up restoring and upgrading my iPad to current iOS release, but left the iPhone 4 Jail Broken (for two reasons): 1. I can remove the app names from the screen (that annoys me), and 2. I can tether (which I almost never use). Simply put, if they could add "live" widgets to the dashboard (like Wp7), I'd be really happy. Also, a 4.5" screen wouldn't hurt. I'm itching to try out the Nexus Prime when it comes out, but something tells me, it'll feel clunky (like most android devices). Also, I'm an avid windows user (mainly because of how I was raised), so I don't have a any other Apple products.

wow me too

just exactly what I've been thinking. Again don't get me wrong, I have loved my iphone . (3GS). But my contract is up and when I go the the cell phone stores I find myself spending all my time with the latest 'droids'. I can't help myself. When I do wander over to the iphone 4 counter, it's like.."oh, yeah ..this looks familiar"...and now we KNOW what the new iphone (4s) is going to be..."Do I need an umbrella?"....Really??? I still have my Macbook Pro , my ipod and my ipad, so ......a couple of those latest droids are doing their siren call....who knows where I'll end up, but good to see some other people are kinda like me.

i've been on sprint for almost 12 years now mainly because they have the cheapest and best data plans. i'm sure i would have gotten an iphone long ago had it been offered on sprint or even any other network than ATT.

when i went from my treo 800 (windows mobile) to htc evo (android) it was an amazing thing. i had no idea that the phone OS had come so far from WM.

but now, i want an iphone, not because i'm tired of android, but because i'm a major mac person (imac, macbook air, ipad) and i just want all my stuff to sync. i used to use missing sync and that worked pretty well until the new ical broke the calendar sync.

also, being on a mac, more of the software i use has an iOS counterpart.

i really like how mobileme syncs everything and am looking forward to icloud. i understand getting bored with your phone or wanting a change, but for me, the two most important things is having all my stuff synced and app availability.

I love my iPhone, but I am bored with my wife...looking to trade her in for an upgrade. Just kidding.

I suppose I'm bored with my iPhone too. Don't get me wrong, it does everything I need it to do and more, plus it syncs well with my iMac and MBA... but it doesn't do some mindblowingly entertaining task (or perhaps I've just gotten used to its amazingness)

And what's more troubling - I think iPhone can outdo Android any day, in terms of both software and hardware. NFC isn't going to make me jump with glee and a bigger screen with reduced pixel density isn't that exciting either. Dual flash? Meh.

I think we're all just waiting for something revolutionary... like an iPhone that transforms into a watch or is built into our eye-glasses (though respectfully, I don't wear eye-glasses)... or maybe has a projector or holographic display. I think we've all just grown too accustomed to the advantages and advancements the iPhone has made that we're simply overlooking them and eagerly awaiting something new.

What I want in my future iPhones that would excite me?
  • Projector, because that'd be unnecessarily awesome.
  • Holographic display, because that's super unrealistically futuristic
  • More advanced Siri integration (always on, always listening, quickly replying and learning)
  • Maybe an adjustable screen to view content at different, but more convenient sizes or aspect ratios
  • Maybe bendy/flexible to better fit in my pocket or wrap around my wrist
  • Maybe foldable to put in my wallet
  • Effortless transferring of image to TV or other displays
  • Charging without having to be plugged in; can convert cellular and solar light, as well as thermal energy, to electrical energy to recharge itself
  • Redonkulous download speeds and unlimited iCloud storage

Meh, who knows.

I guess you could say im bored with my iPhone. But, i know the alternative is not for me. I had a droid x for awhile before my iPhone. That thing froze and restarted nearly everyday. It was nice being able to customize everything with android, but it was still a pain.

Everytime I think I'm bored of my iPhone, I just think back to my droid x. My phone works, and that is all that matters to me now :apple:

When my contract ended a few months ago on my 3GS I was like "Right, so i've had every iPhone since 2007 (cept for the 4) and I want something different and new" so I jumped bandwagon and got a HTC running Android. The first week or so I was like "WOW this is amazing, you can do everything and more than the iPhone, I'm sticking with Android".

That didnt last long

As weeks went on the OS began to really annoy me, it was so, the camera kept deleting my photos, it wouldnt let me read my sms's, kept coming up "no network carrier, please choose a different one" and so on.

NOW!! Friday cant come quickly enough, I NEED an iPhone in my life again, yes it has its limitations, yes its expensive, yes Im an apple fan boy but the iOS and Apple ecosystem fits into my life perfect!! Its true what they say, once you go mac ... you never go back!

When I had the iPh4, yes, I did get tired of the OS quite quickly; it was just pages of pages of apps on a grid. Granted, it's easy to use.

On a Nexus S now. The first few months were fun as hell, tinkering with the customizations, different home screens, themes, etc... but eventually, after I was done and happy with the set up I had, it got boring too.

All OSes get boring when you're forced to spend 2 years with them. iOS gets boring faster, that's all.

I got bored of it last december, switched to windows phone, and now I have been apart from it for so long that I am ready to go back. I'm not bored of windows phone yet (it is very entertaining), and so I will be hanging on to it and switching between the 2. Hopefully that will make sure I never get bored of the iPhone again

You buy a phone because you think it's cool? There is your major issue right there.

i refuse to believe anyone got their first iphone without considering the cool factor, the thing is cool. I mean, at the end of the day no one needs an iphone... Someone in nursing school recently said they needed one to justify buying one to me (i wasnt even challanging their decision). And although im sure its super helpful, you cannot seriously claim its a necessity for anything. I guess I dont understand this need to justify buying something you want sometimes, its a cool toy, and theres nothing wrong with that being a reason to buy it. How boring would we be if every decision we made was calculated based on practicality

All that said, i agree with some other posts about jailbreaking to reinvigorate your relationship with your iphone:D
