Stick with black. It's less distracting. I had a white ipad2 and ended up returning it. It's nice to look at but every time you look at the screen you see the white. The black bezel disappears.
I almost gave in. I stressed about it for several hours. I even pre-ordered both a black and a white, but finally cleared my head and cancelled the white the next morning.
Personally, there is something about the colour/sheen of the Home button the whites that bothers me. It just doesn't seem to match the white bezel as much as the black model's home button does.
I had a one hour internal debate on this one. It happened when I placed my order and came to the smart cover option. All of the coloured covers look much better when paired with the white. But I wanted the black. But the white looked so good with a red cover, or a blue cover, or a green cover. The black only seemed to look good with the black or grey cover.
My wife wanted me to get the white. But, after looking at all the marketing pictures and my own black original iPad, I went with black.
Yes, all of the Apple marketing materials and promo videos had a severe effect on my decision.
I'm getting the black new iPad. 1rst gen iPad was black. iPad 2 was white. Def going black this time. Something about the white bezel is kind of distracting.
Yeah, like beige/white PC monitors are so distracting too and you just end up staring at the bezel totally ignoring the screen.
NO FINGERPRINT SMUDGES!
On the white iPad, there are no visible smudges on the bezel and when the screen is switched on, the illumination ensure there are no smudges on the screen. You only notice greasy marks on a black bezel iPad especially when switched off.
Also to the whiners out there that white is so distracting it is absolutely not! Most of the time you'll be web browsing and most web pages are predominantly white with black text. The white bezel just continues that whiteness. What you dont get is the harsh, nasty black border contrast around the webpage. Just visualise the macrumors forum as an example.
