I am one of those that came around to the bigger size.. in moderation of course. I still think walking around with somethng the size of a Note and passing it off as a phone is silly and ridiculous. just my personal opinion of course. I would love to see an iPhone in the 4.7-4.8" range... I think thats the sweet spot. I trust Apple will do it right.

Not to worry. Most will be pleased.

The iphone 6 will be the same size or about the same size as the current iphone. No bezel and a bigger screen at almost the same phone size. My firm has it pegged at around 4.5 or 4.7. Hard to tell from their supply chain the exact size of the screen. But the phablet rumors are just that rumors.

People forget the fact that Apple promotes 'ease of use' in 'one handed use' they so famously remind us of. These mockups of a larger iphone 5 are ridiculous.

Now they have a prototype 'phablet' but that is just it, just a prototype. No analyst thinks they will release it. The ones who want to make a name for themselves will sell their soul to do so.

Anything is possible but our firm are not buying it. ;)

Does your firm think they'll keep the 4" model? Or will the larger screen model be the one and only iPhone 6?

I was convinced Apple was going to offer two iPhone's this fall, 4" and 4.7". But now I don't think that's the case. I think they'll make the screen larger but the phone itself won't be drastically larger than the iPhone 5/5S. In order to do so they'll shrink the size of the current bezels. And yes, I think this is the right move by Apple. I had the S4 for 6 months last year and texting/browsing with one hand was a nonissue.

LOVE to see a bigger screen iphone. easier to do everything. i couldn't accept i had to use two hands for my former galaxy note but for iphone i can trade that off.

maybe i am a fanboy but i like the build quality and ios soooo much better that i can give up one hand usability over a 5" iphone. not bigger than that though.

can you imagine? a 5" and thinner, all metal construction. im so in.

Surprisingly, even to me, there are many aspects of the 5c that I rather love. If it had touch ID and the same innards as the 5S I would have very likely gone with it over the 5S.

Me too.
I love my iPhone 5S, but it is very "fragile" indeed, and a tad too thin.

This elephant 'phones' madness really has to stop. We're talking about phones. Not tablets. There's no need for something in between. Because they're no use for something in between. If you want a big screen for browsing Safari, buy an iPad. If you want a small screen so you can dial a number quicker, buy an iPhone. Hell if you really think you need something in between (which you don't), buy an Sony (no, absolutely NO reason to buy a Samsung).

These 'phablets' were meant for those, who can't afford a phone AND a tablet. It are compromises. And compromises are good, but never great, and always worse than dedicated products.

This year, if iPhone 6 should really have a even bigger screen, i will update to the 5s instead. But sooner or later, the bigger iPhone 6 will be the pre-gen model and it's going to b difficult for me. I really hope people and the companies get their mind clear and build true phones again.

This is a very foolish post....

Right? I don't get why people are overreacting. Current rumours peg the next iPhone at 4.5-4.8". How does that size suddenly become considered a tablet? The iPad mini is 7.9". That's more than a 3" difference!

I get that some people prefer the smaller iPhone, and their entitled to their opinion. But can we please stop classifying a phone that doesn't exist yet as a tablet? (especially considering the rumours indicate a screen size less than 5"). And even if Apple does introduce a "phablet" (I hate that word) iPhone this year, I highly doubt they'd completely replace the smaller iPhone with that. Apple likes taking baby steps. They aren't the ones that make drastic changes.

Apple is capable of anything, from all my years in dealing with them, they are the hardest company to put a 'handle' on as far as what they are going to do.

With that being said. Until we see part numbers in their supply chain anything is possible. All indications from dealing with their supply chain and part suppliers is that the iphone 6 in one of their versions at least, will not be much bigger or the same size as the current iphone 5/5S. It will have a bigger screen in almost if not the same size form factor as today. Which is 4.5 or 4.7 inches.

This makes sense as their importance on one handes use. And their belief that devices should get 'smaller' not bigger. They have a prototype larger iphone or 'phablet' but if it is released is another story all together. If they do release a phablet then it would maximize the screen space on the phone would be my estimation to reduce the phone size.

Now they could introduce a larger iphone, but we are not hearing anything from our contacts or from their supply chain or part suppliers.

4.5-4.8" surely isn't considerable like a phablet !
But it's a limit I don't want apple to pass in the next iPhone ...

My second smartphone is a Lumia 925. A great phone, with a 4.5" display. It is still pocketable and usable with one hand, but it is close to my limit in that aspect. A 5.5" device surely is well beyond that limit.

I have a Lumia 920 as my second device and I agree for me personally that's nearing the limit of how big I'd like a smartphone to be. If the next iPhone ends up with a screen size close to that I'll be happy. Any bigger than 5" as the only option and I may consider using WP full time if they maintain the current screen size (or just get a 5S to replace my 5).

The madness of people with baby hands complaining about the making of phones for people with normal sized hands must stop. I get it that you have tiny hands and hope they continue to make a tiny phone for you, but it helps us with normal (or big) size hands when we can type without hitting 2 keys because the phone is tiny. I have a 5c iphone and it's too small but I will live with it until they start to grow up.

We both have choices. I didn't have to buy the 5c and you don't have to buy an iphone if they get bigger. Period.

Lumia line is wonderful, but I think we can all admit that there is quite the bezel to go around. Preserve the screen size, drastically shrink the bezel, viola!

To be fair, I think these people are mostly worried about losing choices. Obviously one doesn't need to buy the bigger phone, but if that's all Apple decides to sell (who knows what they do, they phased out 3.5" with the 4S), eventually their current "small" handset, whatever that may be, will need replacing.

In a perfect world Apple will make two different sizes with largely the same spec otherwise. I am not so sure that this is what they plan to do. But who knows. I have been surprised before.

Actually this part is the reason I responded:

This elephant 'phones' madness really has to stop

This sounds more like a bitter tiny hands person because I do not have "elephant hands" so "elephant phones" is just a ridiculous comment. I have no problem with apple making multiple sized phones, in fact it would be great, but these tiny people foam at the mouth at the mention of larger phones in any capacity. Not everyone is the same.

Especially the bottom bezel. So much extra space beneath the capacitive buttons. WP8.1 is supposed to introduce on screen (ie, virtual) buttons, so that should (hopefully) help with the bezel issue on future WP devices.

My hands are normal sized, and a 4" device is not "too small".
Until a couple of years ago 4" was considered a pretty big dimension for a smartphone, and last time I checked human race isn't changed since then ....

This rush toward ridiculously big devices is leaded by the Android world, where everything is about "I have more ....", and I strongly hope Apple won't follow.

I don't think that drastically shrink the bezel is a good solution ... Did you try a LG G2 for example ? Or even the galaxy S4, to a less extent.
A minimum bezel is necessary IMHO for a better handling of the device. Nokia Lumia are using a little bit too much bezel, iPhone is better but still on the big side. The right spot is something like Moto x in my opinion.

Not long ago a 24 or 24" tv was considered big dimensions for a tv and the last time I checked the human race (sic) isn't (sic) changed since then.....

What size TV do you have? If it's not a tiny one then you must realize people and things change. Why do you pretty much never see one that size any more? Computer monitors? Gotten larger.

What "used to be" is a ridiculous argument as I have seen just about everything change. Why would smartphones be any different?

"the rush toward ridiculously big'? Ridiculously big by who's standards? To me your hands must be ridiculously small if you cannot handle a 4.5 or 5 phone.

I just switched to an iPhone 5s from a Galaxy Note 2 & S3.
I'm keeping my Samsung devices for movies, music, and videos. I like the way 5s is light :apple: & small. I don't think I'll purchase a large iPhone.

I am simply saying that looking at the Lumi they can drastically shrink th ebezel and not have those problems. Lumias bezels are enormous.

One-hand usability is such an absurd defense for small screens, why a person has to be able to do EVERYTHING using just one hand???

Larger screens simply must come this year, otherwise apple is just not giving its customers best experiences, at all. Honestly I can never fully enjoy the photos taken by my iPhone 5 on its own screen...

Because they saw it in an apple commercial.

I'm excited about the big screen, today I compared my iPhone 5S to a Moto X that has a 4.7" screen and honestly I could picture my next iPhone to be that size and still feeling comfortable as the Moto X was not any larger than my iPhone 5S physically...

I think I might grow to like it, but the reasons for me liking a small phone will never change.

I like it when my tech shrinks away and disappears. The 5S nearly manages this. I can't imagine a larger phone pulling it off.

Twenty and I say again TWENTY years ago, a 32-36" CRT television was the standard here in Europe.
A 32" CRT 4:3 television in not so different from a today's 40-42" 16:9 television LCD.
Is the type of TV that changed over the time, not human race's needs.

Plus you aren't supposed to bring your 42" television with you every day (or your 27" LCD monitor), so your argument is just futile ....

Moto X actually is bigger than an iPhone 5S, physically. This is a fact.

Dimensions :123.8 x 58.6 x 7.6 mm (4.87 x 2.31 x 0.30 in) vs 129.3 x 65.3 x 10.4 mm (5.09 x 2.57 x 0.41 in)
Weight : 112 g (3.95 oz) vs 130 g (4.59 oz)

By the way, I agree that Moto X is the best compromise between size and screen estate on the market, and I'd like Apple to produce something similar to it.
