Twenty and I say again TWENTY years ago, a 32-36" CRT television was the standard here in Europe.
A 32" CRT 4:3 television in not so different from a today's 40-42" 16:9 television LCD.
Is the type of TV that changed over the time, not human race's needs.

Plus you aren't supposed to bring your 42" television with you every day (or your 27" LCD monitor), so your argument is just futile ....

Wrong in so many ways. Here in mexico many people are just now moving from 25 and jumping to 48 or so. In the us it has been nothing like 20 years as ince the change. Your little part of the world is not the whole world. A 32" crt is not so different than a 40-42" lcd? Just plain ridiculous, you have it backwards. Try watching todays widesreen programs, or widescreen movies back in the day and you will find that the 32"crt with black bars does not even remotely compare with a 40-42" crt. It's not even remotely close, it would be more like a 25" lcd. My last crt was a 36" and it was far more tiny watching widescreen than a 32" crt (my first lcd). My 48" is huge compared to the 36" crt I got rid of (broke 6 years ago) and many people still had. I know many in the US that STILL have them and think there is no reason for the big lcd. So it's exactly the same analagy as your ridiculous iphone one as people's eyes have not gotten worse and a 32" lcd should be the perfect size for everyone, right?

The funny part of this is people that think phones, as anything else, is a one size fits all. NOTHING is one size fits all, particularly cell phones, and it's narrow minded to think that's even possible.

Adios, I am done with you. Blocked.

Three things about a bigger phone that bother me:

I'm a guy, I don't carry a purse, usually I only put a phone in one pocket and my wallet in the other, and then I'm out the door.

I take the bus and train a lot, I don't have a lot of room on my person to keep phablet style phones, the 5S at 4" is a very manageable size for me.

Another issue is will we have to go for that iPhone 4/4S to 5 screen size issue again with apps?

I also have a 64GB phone for a reason, and if anything needs to get bigger have it be storage space.

but I can do so with a coffee in my other hand.

and those of us without girl hands can do the same thing with a note 3

just because you're happy with a tiny non HD screen, doesn't mean everyone has to be

i dont have to pinch to zoom near as much on my nexus 5 as i do on my iphone 5, and the nexus screen looks much better

Europe (and USA, since they share similar behavior ) are "a little part of the world" ?
20 years ago widescreen programs were not so common ...

But your definition of "ridiculous iPhone" says much about you ...

Absolutely agree with you.
Especially during summer I often wear only shorts and a Tshirt and I feel uncomfortable just with a tiny wallet and an iPhone .... I definitely can't keep a bigger phone in my wallet.

I don't have girly hands but I can't do with one hand the same thing I'm doing on my iPhone, especially with a Note 3 ...

You are speaking about your nexus 5 like it was similar to the Note 3: that's just not true.

Dimensions 151.2 x 79.2 x 8.3 mm (5.95 x 3.12 x 0.33 in) vs 137.9 x 69.2 x 8.6 mm (5.43 x 2.72 x 0.34 in)
Weight 168 g (5.93 oz) vs 130 g (4.59 oz)

The nexus 5 is big but quite acceptable for me, while the Note 3 is just an unacceptable huge device.

The madness of people with baby hands complaining about the making of phones for people with normal sized hands must stop. I get it that you have tiny hands and hope they continue to make a tiny phone for you, but it helps us with normal (or big) size hands when we can type without hitting 2 keys because the phone is tiny. I have a 5c iphone and it's too small but I will live with it until they start to grow up.

We both have choices. I didn't have to buy the 5c and you don't have to buy an iphone if they get bigger. Period.

First of all, no, soon 'we' don't have choices anymore. Because it seems that soon all 'phones' are about to be sized 5" and larger. Apple today is already like the single one that still offers a phone below 4.7" and even below 4.3". That's my problem i was talking about. Those who like big phones are going to be happy, but those who don't won't, so you can't say everyone will be happy.

And really, should i take a picture? Certainly, i don't have tiny hands. In fact, i've indeed heard from a bunch of people that i'd have huge hands. Though, when it comes to phones and one-hand operability, it's solely about your thumb. And as the iPhone 5's 'Thumb' video clearly showed us, 4" is the screen ratio where the average thumb barely reaches from bottom left to upper right corner. Though my thumb reaches a bit further, i'd agree that these 4" are the limit of ome-hand operability. There are also numerous videos on YouTube reviewing 'phones' like the Galaxy S5 or the HTC One and people obviously can't reach everything with their thumb and have to use both hands to do so. HTC (or was it Samsung?) even offers a dedicated mode where the screen gets shrinked virtually, so you can use it one-hand if you want to.

Personally, i'd like one-hand operability to be a given and not a feature.

I was always wanting a 4.7" but now definitely want the 5.5".
My eyesight is strained with this small screen and as I use my phone for a lot of web browsing, a larger screen makes much more sense. I can understand why some folks want to keep their iPhone as 'just a phone' but some of us use them as a mini tablet. So long as I can more or less use the phone one-handed, ship me a big one :)

I don't understand why people think you can't use a 4.7 or 5 inch phone with one hand. Where did this myth start?

I recently just purchased a Samsung galaxy S5 because I wanted a larger screen. The 5.1 inch screen is perfect and I did like it but I ended up returning it because the camera on it was bad and the android software, I just could not get used to that. Three major things that I do with my phone are: photography texting and web browsing and that is about it. I do play with some of the apps but they're mostly photography apps I don't play games, and a bigger screen just made all that much more enjoyable. If the camera on the Samsung was better I probably would have kept it. The iPhone definitely needs a screen size upgrade for sure. 4.7 inches is borderline, I would rather see 5 inches or so. If the next round of iPhones do not please me, then I may just go back to the Samsung galaxy S5.

Honestly, if Apple does not change their phone sizes soon, they are definitely going to start losing customers. This tiny screen on the iPhone gets difficult to use whenever you have big hands and your thumbs get in the way when you're trying to text. I totally love the ease of use and smoothness of the iPhone compared to android, but I probably will not hesitate to go to a different phone just to have a larger screen soon. We screen size of the Samsung galaxy 5S started to spoil me to be honest.

Then buy something else. It's the tiny hands people that continuously complain about larger phones. You make my point, you seem to think one size fits all which is ridiculous. I have never heard or seen larger phone users say the same. If there was one think I could change on my iphone it's the size, it's too small. Not everyone conforms to your idea of a perfect size, not everyone has to have a 3.5" phone to operate one handed and not everyone even uses their phone one handed. Fortunately it's not you that decides how the whole world uses their phones.

I'm waiting on sales figures for the larger phones to see tiny heads exploding.

5" to me is in sort of no man's land in the sense that it's a little too big for one handed use but it's not so big that the viewing experience is significantly better than a smaller phone. I think the upcoming 5.5" iPhone 6 might be a tad bit too big, so I'll probably end up with a 4.7". But there is no question that a bigger screen is very much welcome.

Think of all the marketshare the iPhone lost the past four years on Steve Job's insistence of a small, one-handed phone.

Steve wasn't right about everything and this is a good example.
