Then I saw the prices for repair, realised I'd have to buy AppleCare too (£199) and that's doesn't cover loss. I was of course stuck, I didn't really want the 8+ and while the X looks great, a lot of people advise not buying the first iteration of iPhone models. I'd already sold my 6s in preparation as well.

It is cheaper to buy insurance that covers damage and loss/theft than to pay Applecare. I have to question whether Applecare is even worth it at this point?

No. If you stop making your monthly payments, your account gets shut off and sent to collections. The account is paid off to AT&T from the collection agency. It’s just like not paying your bill when you had a 2 yr contract, they would just tack on the termination fee and send your account to collections.

That being said, they reserve the right to but I’ve yet to see it happen.

However an individual can pay off their phone at any time so I fail to see why this is an argument.

They send the account to collections. They won’t repo the product.

Not according to Swappa, LLC:

A device that is being financed through Next is considered to be owned by AT&T, and therefore at any point could potentially be blacklisted and/or "repossessed" by the rightful owner: AT&T. On the contrary, a device on a standard two-year contract will likely maintain the ability to be activated on another AT&T line, even if the original account owner stops paying his or her bill, as the device is owned by the customer. On a standard two-year contract, the billing problems stay with the account, not with the device.

AT&T will also send your account to collections.

"potentially" black listed...

And I'd love to see a carrier hire people to repossess cell phones, lmao.

That being said, if someone wanted to sell their product and were currently making payments, they simply need to pay off the device.

Uh, yeah. My credit cards are maxed out. Long story dealing with living abroad, parents, hypocrisy, and bankruptcy.

Couldn't change the Best Buy pre-order to installments from whole sum last night.

Only got $800 in cash which is needed for 1099 and will be depleted for a couple weeks because of rent and car payments being due soon.

Fun to be on the bandwagon while it lasted. Still looking forward for people telling me all about it. Not a bad product but it's $1,100+ for a Gen 1 product. Freshman! Freshman!

I will probably just cancel the BB pre-order and I might reconsider getting the X again depending if I win some money in the Breeders' Cup Classic the following day. If I win like $500, then sure.

The Russell "Brodie" Westbrook and Richard Branson of Virgin mantra. If TMo starts getting annoying with worse coverage and slow data for my work, I will just go to a Verizon store and sign up another contract with them. My current bill with TMo is only $82 but will go up to $140 with Verizon. I need unlimited. I don't need to see those bland personality employees that much anyway.

There is still hope but I'm not crazy spending over a grand for something that will get replaced in a year and feels Gen 1. Too rich for my blood, Timmy. Rather spend that money on a second trip to Japan. Hoping everyone enjoys their's though. All-in, right? Rock n roll!

The smartest comment I read came from the "How Long Will You Keep The X?" thread.

Amen, brother.

Bought mine outright and don't regret it at all. The NEXT/iUP/Jump type programs only make sense for Android phones. iPhones hold their value well enough that if you're upgrading within the cycles in these programs you're throwing money away by not purchasing and selling your old used one.
Not sure how the X is going to hold up value wise in one year. Suspect Apple will lower the prices back to Normal since they will have a much larger quantities of screens and sizes for the next version.

Apple is all about the money so it's unlikely that will ever happen. More likely they will go higher if they can

The phones sold out within minutes even at the higher prices. Apple is a business and already charged substantially more for hardware than their competitors and whilst we pay the premium they have no reason to change

X is a special edition model this year and has supply issues that require Apple to sell them at a higher price this year. Nobody is going to pay 2k for a 6.4inch phone unless it’s made from solid gold. The price will go down it won’t be a novelty item next year. It’s a supply restricted device this year. They are supply limited to the amount of,screens they have access to. The only way this will stay the same is if Foxconn can’t get their OLED screens up and running.

I am waiting for the iPhone Xs - let them work out the inevitable design flaws. This is a complete redesign by Apple and everytime they do that, they do something wrong.

I really doubt the next phone will be named "XS."

eXtra Small is the first thing to come to mind when I see it.

Has the new iPhone ever been cheaper than the model that preceded it?

Apple is a corporation that wants to make money and charges premium prices for items. I know I am being overcharged for what I buy from them but do so to be in the ecosystem but am under no illusion that Apple is a company that does this.

However, continuing lack of innovation and high prices may well change this in the future

i just watched the keynote again. Nope.

I did exactly this on Thursday night!

I feel good about mine and if it's not for me I will return after 14 days of trying it out.

Feel a little silly when people ask how much they were, seeing as I got two but oh well..Also excited for Friday collection!

I disagree with your view. Next year's phone will be similarly priced whether deservedly or not. Your argument is logically sound but I think Apple's pricing strategy is not driven by the sum of the part costs. Keeping prices high fans the argument that Apple makes "premium" products. They will probably discount the X next year in keeping with that tradition but the newest phone will be more or less the same price.

In case anyone cares, I decided not to cancel. I could use a new MacBook Pro, but that can wait a little longer. I've realized that I use my phone A LOT, so at the end of the day it really isn't a total "waste". My iPhone 7 Plus is more than enough for what I need, but I've been dying for the Plus features in a smaller sized body, and that's what the X is. Throw the awesome OLED display and I think it'll be worth it for me.

What matters is what is best for you. Hope you enjoy it.
