The tech community, in general, is very, very far to the left. I think the mods of this site are no different.
Don't forget the mods started off as regular members here. Don't get me wrong, there are a lot of great mods here who do a great job. But I think a few have a few chips on their shoulders and want you to know it.

Every time someone continues this thread I have mixed feelings. I think we are wasting our time and just give it a rest, but I am glad I am not the only one who thinks there is a real issue here when you have to wear kids gloves to have a little debate because everyone seems to be a snowflake or maybe some mods just enjoy their powers too much.

I'm pretty sure the Mods are rolling their heads too - hoping they don't have to remove another post. :p

It is nice of them to let us have this thread to discuss it. Kinda cool how it turned into history a little here - MacNut - 2002 member! Pretty cool to hear from older members like this.

Back in my day the biggest complaint around here was the new desk lamp iMac.

I will say this--I do appreciate that MR does at least allow for posts right of center. Many of the tech sites will ban you quickly if you question some of the more liberal orthodoxies.

I don't think the behavior of the mods will change here and I don't really care, I guess. It is nice to know I am not alone.

Agreed. Out of the handful of forums I've been involved in, this is by far the more tolerant in that aspect (above). Something I'm thankful to Macrumors for.

I was reading this forum long before I became a member. I remember seeing people getting banned a long time before I joined, it looked like it was a lot harder to get banned years ago......8 to 10 probably. Sometimes people outright rude.

Yeah I agree it is nice they are allowing this....let us vent a little.

See I think the PRSI is starting to be modded more to the right. I see a lot of Trump posts staying and the anti Trump posts getting flagged.

One thing I have noticed is that PRSI is more tame than it was a year ago after some people were sent off on a nice holiday for life. Though, I was always a fan of dropping people into the Tachy goes to Coventry list.

I’m a member of several tech forums and a few sports forums and have never run into people who want to constantly delete my posts.
Likewise, I am a member of several forums where debate and posts can get quite robust, and have never had a problem with posts being deleted, being given time out etc.

Here, on MacRumours, it seems we need to pussyfoot around a bit in terms of content and etiquette ..... and there are certain members who seem to take offence rather easily. I am sure that moderators hear from a few such sensitive souls quite a bit, and they do seem to get protected as a result. Interestingly some of the same, who have gotten me censured one way or another, have eventually been banned for their own bad behaviour.

On the other hand, I have also posted on the odd forum which is very partisan, where some moderators are very heavy handed in deleting posts, closing threads, timeouts and bans. Check out ThaiVisa for one.

The forum was bad during the Bush years, but not vile as it is today. Now it is just downright nasty.

Wasn't here then. Worst I saw on the web in those days was the Hussein Trial and hanging. Which he rightfully deserved.

Well some of the anti-trump threads are starting to get ridiculous. There is someone who creates about 1 every day.....maybe they are getting tired of it lol.

Was going to say, the amount of anti-T stuff I see out there is very numerous. But I guess it is a matter of perspective. I'm not an authority on PSRI - I try to avoid it - but it pops up in Recent Threads and I get pulled there. Plus, several people I follow frequent there.

The Verge will ban you for contrary views or a snide comment here or there. That's when they're taking comments. They stopped for a little while because their writers couldn't take any criticism.

It's the new rules being used against good posters. This is what PRSI has become. I don't agree with your comments so I will report you and claim my feelings were hurt and I want this person punished.
If good posters were obeying the rules and debating on topic without going personal, the good posters would not have to worry about getting a suspension or banned.

It's not hard to debate while staying on topic and being civil. The problem is the complainers are not staying on topic and they are replying in kind. And when their actions cause moderation, they feel targeted, which is nothing but grown adults refusing to accept responsibility for their actions.

Moderation is not done in a vacuum on this site. Each moderator report and moderator action is overseen by all the other moderators. If there is a question as to whether or not a violation has occurred and what type of action is warranted, it is discussed by the mods. If there is still a question, or something the mods believe is over their paygrade, it is handled by the admins.

There is no moderator conspiracy going on. There is no political left getting away with ruling breaking at the expense of the political right conspiracy. It is simply a matter of some adults acting like children while they break the rules, and then retorting with, 'but Johnny and Billy were doing it too and didn't get in trouble.'

In my opinion, grown adults should not be offering up excuses for their actions. They should accept blame when it is due and move forward.

This is kind of what I've been referring to. The problem is YOU, you see.

If a forum needs to be moderated so strongly why bother with the forum at all. Either let everything go or shut it down.
