You know I did until I saw the rumors about the LED ring around the home button. While that seems like such a small feature it's somehow changed mindset.

I don't know wether I'll take the 5S or not (probably not, love my 5 and doing so implies a big money spend), but what I know is that if I did get the 5 I would wait 2-3 months. This new fingerprint sensor might very well cause some sword of problems that early adopters might suffer.

Plus rumors stating that Apple has encountered some problems in the process don't really tell otherwise, lol

I'm good to wait. If the screen size will grow any it will likely be in the next version. I'll wait for that.

Most consumers get a new iPhone every year and so they should. Nobody wants to carry around old technology with them when Apple continues to push the envelope with incredible new devices.

Many people skipped the 5 because they didn't feel it was a worthy upgrade. I skipped it and still have and use my 4S.

I did get a Nexus 4 in February and will likely get the next Nexus instead of the new iPhone. Maybe next year I'll get an iPhone again. I still use my 4S too but mostly with just a T-Mobile data only sim.

I've purchased every single iPhone on Day 1. And this year I actually had to think about it, much like you. I still think I'll end up doing it again, but just like you said I'm not in the same frenzy as usual.

If you were ever going to skip one, this is probably the one to skip. Next year we will get a bigger screen iPhone.

You wouldn't survive in my household. My youngest Mac is 7 years old and PowerPC, not Intel. And shockingly, we still use an iPhone 3GS and a 2009 HTC Touch Pro! :D

Interesting. Have we become such a throwaway society that a year old phone is old? Phones aren't pushing the tech envelope that much IMO. I like tech like the next guy but that says a lot about where we've come to!

Reminds me of that Weird Al song "All about the Pentiums":

"Your laptop is a month old? That's great… if you could use a nice heavy, paperweight!"

I don't consider a year old smart phone to be obsolete. A lot of people I know are perfectly happy with their 4 or 4S because it is well made and fast enough. I certainly don't think that my 5 is slow in any way, so I have no reason to upgrade to the 5S.

Stop it.No they don't.Most people get a new iPhone when their contract is up.

My newest Mac is a 2010 whit MacBook. I'll use it till it dies before getting a new one. I don't have money to buy new stuff all the time so my 4S will do till I one day can afford a new phone. I'm not into contracts any more which is why I love my $30 T-Mobile plan.

Let me guess, you are also living with your parents and you don't pay for your own phone bill.

Or possibly he works for Apple's PR dept.

The obsolescence of technology is somewhat subjective: I think of it when my things no longer do what I need them to do. I'm not feeling any lack of capacity on my iPhone.

Can you think of a new iPhone Apple introduced that didn't have some kind of revolutionary new breakthrough technology? It's really unfair to say Apple isn't pushing the envelope that much. Every new iPhone brings something remarkable to the table. I'm 100% sure we won't be disappointed this year with the 5S.

AT&T was always good at giving me an early upgrade on pretty much every iPhone I've had...but I switched to Verizon when the then-new "5" dropped simply because they had a contract with my employer, and I save 21% off my voice plan each month. I'm cool with VZW, but they are notoriously more strict about early upgrades...so I probably won't be eligible for one when the "5s" is released.

1. I'm pretty satisfied with my 5
2. I'm not about to spend $600+ on any phone! I might sound cheap, but when the smoke clears, no matter how cool a phone is...it's just a phone.
3. The rumored additional features of the iPhone 5s don't excite me. Better camera? Fingerprint sensor? Faster processor? Slightly higher capacity battery? Sorry...I'm not holding my breath with anticipation, Apple.

So, yeah...I'll probably hang onto my 5 until 2014. With a fresh OS via iOS7, it'll do just fine.

I only bought my 5 in April, so it would be a waste of money for me to upgrade to the 5S just for some fancier new features. My 5 works fine, most of the rumored new features will go unused by most people anyway, so personally i don't see why people will rush out to buy it just because its the next big thing

I'm fine waiting for the 6. It's the same reason i didn't buy the 4s when it came out

Gosh... Is Apple stock in trouble? No one seems to plan to upgrade after the 5S release

I really don't understand people with a 5 upgrading, The 5S is meant for people that don't already own the 5 or are switching from Android.
Why would you get it if you already have the 5?

Some people always have to have the latest and greatest, it's the same reason buy a new iPad every year.

Why not?

As soon as I buy it, I start saving for a new one.

I look after my gadgets and get a good price fir tem when I sell them on.

Seeing as how I am on the "S" cycle of things, I will be pre-ordering my 5S on day one from the AT&T store.

I got 3GS and 4S on their respective launch days in 2009 and 2011.

Although I could've upgraded early, and broke even after selling my 4S to cover the fee, I skipped the 5 after all.

I just didn't consider it a big enough upgrade to justify. The 4S got all the features of underwhelming iOS 6, and as for the 4" screen and LTE...well I wasn't going to miss what I never had to begin with.

That said, I've been eligible for an upgrade since May 1, and have been waiting patiently for the 5S to debut. Going from the 5 to the 5S would be insignificant, but going from the 4S to the 5S will be a huge leap....much like the jump from the 3GS to the 4S was.
