I will be getting a 16GB, what is so bad about that?

It's not bad if you're considering a 16GB. It all depends on your uses. So if you stream a lot of your content and don't download random crap and never use it, you'll be fine.

In my opinion, I don't think Apple would've offered the 16GB if they felt that it wouldn't be able to handle updated apps. But what do I know ;)

That's exactly my plan, I will keep 200 songs, some apps, mostly productivity ones, 3-4 games, and a couple video games. Having owned 16GB iPad 1 and 2, I always had around 7-8GB free, so I expect 5GB to be free on this one.

64 gig iPad isn't even enough for most people with huge iTunes libraries of movies and tv shows that are up to 500 gigs.

Apple figures with iCloud people don't need to carry everything at once on their devices.

I agree. I've had every version iPad 64gb and I ran it down to less than a gig in a few months. I wish they would bump up the storage to 128gbs already!!

just did a restore from icloud on my ipad 3 16gb. after all the apps updated, i have 7gb of free space. games are taking up the most space and i can delete them at any time to free up space if i need to. i find it hilarious how people feared that the 16gb would be too small and upgraded to 32/64 based on all the articles and posts recently without even knowing how much space they really needed.

I can probably get away with 16 for my needs, so I'm not too worried at the moment. But I'll probably be going 32 next time, I'm just cutting it a bit closer than I'd like.

I think I loaded like 3/4 of my games and that took 12GB. Photos.. another 7GB. Videos of baby daughter, another 2-3GB.

I think I may have to upgrade to the 64GB. Wife's gonna kill me.

Shoulda went 32. I can "get by" with 16, but am seriously considering taking it in for exchange. Most of my apps haven't updated and I am already running a bit low with no music loaded.

I use spotify for streaming but sometimes I like to have local storage for a plane trip. We will see. It only needs to last 1 year lol.

I'm moving from 32 to 16. Why? Because when the first iPad came out, the only way to consume content was through storing it in the device.
We've come very far very quickly and we're moving towards the cloud.
I'm not talking just about iCloud but now we have software that lets your computer act like a cloud stream.

I've used up about 26gb then (not to mention having to manage what goes on and off the iPad), now with cloud streaming I have 26gb FREE with access to all the files.

There are many services online that allows you to not store much on your device.

Music - Pandora, Spotify, iTunes Match
Video - AirVideo, Netflix, Hulu+, iTunes Store
Photos - Facebook, Picasa, PhotoStream, imgur, and countless others

As for the apps, they don't take up that much space. If you free up the space that otherwise would have been used by content, 16gb should be plenty. Now that the App Store lets you download previously purchased apps without paying again, space for apps should not be a problem at all.

But you might ask "What if you don't have an internet connection like on a plane?"
There are plenty of other stuff to do: socialize with people, read a book, listen to music on your iPhone/iPod/in-flight entertainment, or sleep. :)
There's more to life than being immersed in your iPad at all times.

For the $200 more that you would spend for a 64gb, you could buy a bluetooth speaker to go with your iPad, like the Jambox. There are ways to have the same functionality, if not better, as a higher capacity model. You just have to be smart about it.

Because it holds next to nothing.

You've never heard of streaming services?

Especially with the faster data dl speeds, this is now a far more viable option. I will never need more than a 16.

I've got all the stuff I want on mine at the moment and I've used about 4 gigs. Why should I buy a 32?

Im like most other people and far from regretting my 16GB. With cloud storage available from apple and the likes, the days of keeping media on the iPad is getting smaller i think. Like others have said there are many many music, video and document storage companies who cater to the needs of people like us and there is little need to keep it stashed on the iPad.

I subscribe to love film in the UK and can stream a very healthy collection of films. Granted they aren't all current, but the point is i have them on hand if i'm bored. I know i cant keep them on the ipad, but personally every where i go i have a WiFi connection or worst case scenario tether to my iPhone.

Music is provided courtesy of spotify and documents are kept on drop box.

I appreciate a lot of people on here horde music, photos and movies like they are going out of fashion, but i think there is a growing minority of people who don't need to.

Well that my 2 cents worth :D:D

16GB is going to be fine for many people. Turns out a lot of crap is being talked about increased app sizes due to the retina display:

Not all apps are double or even triple the size of their non-Retina counterparts, however. CNET has a nice chart comparing app file sizes (before installation, which are a bit smaller than once they're installed) which illustrates some small increases like how the Kindle app went from 16.6MB (iPad 2) to 18.3 MB (new iPad). The New York Times iPad app went from 4.2 MB to 4.9MB. iMovie went from 70 MB to just over 400 MB, but some new features like a new "trailer" mode have also been added. Oddly enough, Infinity Blade II shrunk from about 941 MB to 791 MB.

I was happy with 16gb on both my original iPad and iPad 2, but it has been dwindling rapidly mainly in my case to in app purchases of magazines! I have to manage these carefully and try to keep only 2 issues of each!

I have an iPad 3? On order and have ordered a 32gb! I think that will keep me going for some time!

the 16gb is perfect for me. This is my first iPad and my brother has the 32gb iPad 2. I have all the games I want on there like infinity blade 2, GTa 3, etc., various apps like Netflix, pandora, about 2 movies, 200 songs and still have over 9 GBs left. We also use iCloud. I think 16gb is perfect for me.

I bought a 16GB iPad2 last year and didn't regret it. I bought a 16GB new iPad and won't regret it either. It is all about how you use it. I use my iPads as a consumption device I stream off the net, stream from my PC, and don't go crazy with apps.

I don't see the need to keep apps on the the device I don't use or keep loads of video on it either. Without managing your file space, you could fill up a 128GB unit.

I was originally going to switch to a 32gb but instead I decided to keep the 16gb because I have an iPhone for music and never listen to music on my ipad, when I do it's usually throu pandora or XM, I have Hulu and Netflix so no movies are stored and I just don't have the patience to sit down and watch a full movie on it and I prefer watching my movies on a bigger screen and on blu ray and I usually use my iPad for browsing and the apps that are actually on it are the only ones that I'll actually use not ones that I'll use once and then just leave on it and the games I have I know I'll play a lot, thanks, thats just my two cents, hope everybody else is enjoying their iPad just as much as me.

Buying 16GB is a stupid move. If you cannot afford 32GB, you cannot afford 16.

No offense, but I think over buying more than what I will ever use is just pointless and wasteful. I'm currently using 1.8 gb. My last iPad was a 32 gb and even with all the apps on it I never used anyway, I still never used more than 4.4 gigs. 90% of what I use my iPad for is the web anyway.

My decision had nothing to do with cost although I'm sure there are some that had to take that into consideration... However there is no shame in that. Why not let everyone enjoy there new iPads instead of trying to spread fear and doubt, or trying to make someone feel cheap?

Edit: To say I'm very happy with my purchase.
