I am happy, after loading everything on, I have about 9GB left. I would prefer a 32GB, but don't want to shell out the buckaroos.

16gb is fine, just delete the unused large games.

I stream everything anyway. iCloud and such. With unlimited LTE I think a cloud based file system works. Speed and bandwidth are no longer an issue. Why else would cloud be so promoted?

I love my 16 gig iPad. The first gen iPad i had was 16 gigs, my iPhone 4s is also 16 gigs. I use the different devices for different things. For videos/movies, I buy them on blu-ray/dvd. For the music i have them on my 16 gig iPod, and for my iPhone, well its a phone i use it to make calls. For almost everything else that I need, i use my iMac. So basically I'm just using my iPad for some games, books, and surfing the net when I don't want to turn on my computer. I've always had 16 gigs for my apple devices and have never managed to fill them up completely or even half way.

I started out with 3 GB free on the new 16 GB. Did a little soul searching and went in to iTunes and creaed a new Genre called "Not on Iphone / Ipad" and placed the majority of the Cd's that I had ripped over the years in to that group, as I mostly only listed to music I downloaded from iTunes anyway. Killed off a couple of Apps I never use anymore too.

Now I have 5.8 GB free. I can live with that, but do plan on getting a 32 GB model in 2014

Not really. If you look at cost/price ratio the 16gb is the best value. Apple makes most of its money from the the suckas who buy the 64gb.

You can't make that blanket statement. Anyone's 'cost' has to include the cost of usage. My iPad 2 is 32GB. I just got a 64GB. Why? Because I travel extensively and believe it or not there are still plenty of places that:
1). Have no wifi
2). Have insufficient data coverage for streaming (even if I did want to eat up my data that way)
3). Have wifi but charge out the wazoo. Believe it or not, I've stayed in hotels that charge $20 for a 24 hr coverage.

So for me, if I want more entertainment than just reading, I need to load up my iPad. It's much more cost effective for me to have local storage vs paying big bucks for wifi or data (even IF it's avaliable).

To everyone: All this talk about what the perfect size is is stupid. Nobody uses their electronics the same way. Post how you use yours but please refrain from telling others the're wrong. Nobody's wrong if what they have meets their own personal needs. Ain't choice great! Sheesh!

Damn right!!! Great choice

Why don't we all just worry about ourselves and choose what option is best for us?

Every time a thread like this pops up, it's the same exact conversation that goes no where is rather pointless.

I was concerned that 16 gb wouldn't be enough. However, I'm taking full advantage of iTunes match/iCloud so I should be ok since most of the media on the iPad will be streamed. I think my mom wants an iPad though so if in 1-2 months 16 somehow isn't enough I'll give her my 16 gb and upgrade to 32.

Give it some more time as more high res apps are released and I'm sure the happy 16s will be singing a different tune. Sorry but it's inevitably going to get worse. Look at MC3 it's 2gb alone. :)

I am also very satisfied with my 16gb iPad purchase. I already have over 1200 ebooks saved on it and dozens of great games including MW3 which is 1.8gb by itself. I still have 1gb left. So glad I didn't waste the money on the 32gb or 64gb and can now save that instead :)

I have a 32GB unlocked (and jailbroken) iPhone 4S with about 500 songs, 500 photos, 70 applications (additional 10 jailbroken items), and 100 Kindle books installed after 6 months of usage. I dont store any videos or movies. I can't do any critical viewing on a screen that is so small and has such a poor contrast ratio, but I will stream TV shows. I use my theater room with my 1080p projector for all critical viewing.

All those items total about 5.8GB used on the 4S and half the apps I rarely use. For that reason I decided on the 16GB iPad with AT&T. I did a clean install this weekend and currently have less than 3GB installed on my iPad.
I dont think ill get close to 10GB on the iPad before the new version nexty year and at that time im guessing 32Gb will be the new minimum so I will upgrade then.

For me I would be throwing money away that I would rather use to improve my home theater and maybe add an anamorphic lens with a 2.35:1 150" screen!

No offense, but I think over buying more than what I will ever use is just pointless and wasteful. I'm currently using 1.8 gb. My last iPad was a 32 gb and even with all the apps on it I never used anyway, I still never used more than 4.4 gigs. 90% of what I use my iPad for is the web anyway.

My decision had nothing to do with cost although I'm sure there are some that had to take that into consideration... However there is no shame in that. Why not let everyone enjoy there new iPads instead of trying to spread fear and doubt, or trying to make someone feel cheap?

Edit: To say I'm very happy with my purchase.

This is my exact situation & sentiments... cost had very little to do with it, it simply made better sense as the extra space is unnecessary for my purposes; to assume people get the 16GB only because they "can't afford a 32GB" just goes to show the ignorance of the person saying so.

Not to mention that the resale value on the 16GB - or base model for any device - statistically goes for much more than the upgraded versions. So we're all pretty much economical wizards.

Get a brain, moran!

I'm happy with the 16GB. I don't store much media on here so I still have plenty left. If I were the type with songs and movies out the ying-yang I'd probably go 32.

I'm loving the 16gb. I have an iPhone for music, don't fly much, and can stream Netflix, and other content. I loaded lots of games and productivity software and I'm only using about 3gb of my 16. If I wanted I could put one or two movies on comfortably without breaking a sweat. Plus there is always a good old-fashioned book if there is no Internet!

16gb iPad users start out happy..

.....but end up very, very sad....and full of regret.

That's not true... I never worried about "only" having 16gb up until my iPad 3rd gen. And I chose the 16gb Verizon Version anyway. I don't keep music on it because I have an iPhone the iPad music app sucks anyway.

So that leaves apps and movies. I don't keep giant 2gb games (Rage) on. I just drop it back in when I feel like playing it. I have GTA, Infinite Blade and 2 version of Angry Birds so I'm good for entertainment all that's left is really movies. Drop about 12 SD tv shows on it at about 4gb and I still have 3gb to spare and I'm constantly swapping out my TV shows.

It's manageable...

I never understood why people needed 120gb of music with them at all times... it becomes overwhelming to me to sort through all that music I just keep a playlist of about 100 songs and my favorite 5 albums on my iPhone.

I think some people just like to "toot their horns" regarding how many songs, videos, games and apps they have on their iPhone or iPads. I seriously doubt those with huge amounts of stuff on their devices even use 3/4 of what's on there. Just like to brag "mine's bigger than yours", "look at all my stuff". For the few that really need all the stuff with them at all times, more power to them. For me, I like to travel light and only carry what I really need.

I have 32 gig - and looking at what's on there, I've used all of about 8 of them. have about 45 apps, tons of podcasts, and over a thousand photos, most of them at full resolution.

I don't bother with music or, except for chess, games.

Mostly I want the iPad for photography - to showcase my photographs. I also teach photography and sell my photos on occasion, and I've discovered the iPad is an awesome tool for those purposes.

What does interest me is that, for unknown reasons, when I put everything that's on my iPad 2 on my new iPad, I had extra space on my new iPad. How did that happen?

Anyway, except for special needs, 16 gigs are sufficient for most users. But it's kind of like using a backpack. We tend to fill up whatever size pack we have.

Boils down to use case. I live with my iPad. Went to 64 with the 2. and did the same for this generation. But I literally live with mine. Work, school, home, play and fun - its my device of choice. 64gb works for me. Your use case may be a bit different.
