😂 😊
This is, in large part, why I finally hid the stickied post about using cases with your iPhone. That's a long thread and I've already made my opinions clear (many times). Additional posting was starting to become repetitive; how many times could I type in the same opinion over and over?

So, I just got out. If anyone wants to know my opinion, they can just review that thread for the dozens of times I mentioned it.

My iPhone still works as a tool for things I want it to do well which is:
-A communication tool to connect with family, fields, coworkers and clients
-A source of music and maps while in the car (via CarPlay)
-A half decent camera
-An alarm clock
-A place to do online banking
-A controller for a few things around the house (lights, thermostat, solar power monitoring)

Expecting a phone to wow you and revolutionize your life every year probably means you need a hobby or something to do with your time other than stare at a screen.

Yes sound logic, people don’t ever comment on things unless they’re perpetually looking at them.

Me too.
The App Update situation is beyond ridiculous.

Literally every time I seem to open it, like 94 updates are there.
I have it do them all, and a week later it's a number nearly as high.

I'm sorry, but none of these Apps need to be updating this much.
Yeah I suppose you are an experienced developer.

Yeah they’re definitely missing the mark with a sizeable set of customers who want less not more
they've tried this, twice. With the mini and the iphone air. Sales of both of these devices show that the market clearly won't support these devices (jury still out on the air). So not missing the mark at all. You want a dumb phone. Just go out an buy one. The Moto Razr looks like it would fit your needs.

Your smart phone is one of the most personal devices you’ll ever use, they are far more than mere tools.
No. That's my computers. My smartphone is for calls, texts and some emails. It's also for some (very) light web browsing when outside of the house.

It is NOT for consumption of media, games, word processing, Photoshop, page layout and graphic design. That is what I have a Mac for. That is what I have a 55" HDTV for.

Computers have been a part of my life since 1980 when I was 10. I'm not going to start using a smartphone as some gimped replacement for them now. Especially not with the dinky little screens they come with, when I've got 5x 30" Cinema Displays to use and my HDTV.

In the early days of the iPhone I got excited by faster processors, more battery life, improved display and upgraded camera and video capabilities. All of those things have been pretty good for a number of years.

I wouldn’t say I’m fatigued or bored by pretty much getting what I wanted. Sure, I’d prefer some things to be different, but that’s just my own preferences.

Besides, oftentimes when I get the change I’ve been demanding, it doesn’t take long before I long for how good things used to be. 🤭

Fatigue? No. In fact I am starting to get really excited again because of "The Fold". I've wished for an eReader in my pocket for years, and it looks like this will fit the bill. And playing with the beta, it looks like the Siri-Gemini integration was done very well. As someone who set my Action Button to bring up Gemini for voice chatting, I use it everyday, and look forward to the Siri-integration.

Still exciting times in technology... and I've got decades under my belt.

Speaking strictly for myself: I want a device that has never been touched by either Google or Apple, places and accepts voice calls on the current generation of cellular networks, has minimal text capability (mostly for receiving the apparently-obligatory 2FA codes), can store and play back a few hours of music via Bluetooth, has no Web browser or voice recognition capabilities whatsoever, and has a clock. And does not gather non-opt-outable electronic intelligence on me, to quietly send back to its mothership without my knowledge. Icing on the cake, if possible of course, would be a battery that lasts longer than 24 hours...
The flip phone I used to have was far too annoying to use to send texts and had no caller blocking capability. So I went with a Motorola G for $129. I did have to ungoogle it as much as I could. Deleted stacks of stuff. It works. The battery lasts a week. The only pocket it fits into is in my winter coat but I don't take it anywhere anyway.

It was the best compromise I could find last summer. It supposedly works on 5G, but there is no 5G service here so I can't test that.

The Linux phone options at the moment only run on hardware just as expensive as an iPhone.

The Motorola G is still available but the price went up. 😕

For me, it’s the updating of the OS’s every year, whether it’s warranted or not. I miss the days of waiting for highly anticipated updates and not knowing exactly when they’ll drop. You know, back when a major version number increment meant something.

And what's frustrating is that not updating every week or so means the app just stops working. I occasionally block the app store with screentime to keep distractions down (can't redownload the apps that are just distracting or worse), but then I can't update apps (any way we can separate THAT from the app store being available?) and eventually they just stop working, reminding me to update. Super annoying.

I’m an iPhone addict 🤣 I have a problem and I think I like it . . .

Admission is the first step to recovery 🤣🤣🤣

Nope. Never. Because it works! A quote that's proven true for years now. I will say along the lines of tech fatigue others have spoken about that I've felt the need to simplify and rarely use my laptops or tablets anymore. Wish somebody would just open a business that collects all this crap and wipes it for you, but that's off topic.

Weird. I swear those Apple Cinema Displays were discontinued in 2011😊
LOL!

Three were free, courtesy of a member here who was down in my area in January, 2025. One was a $300 eBay purchase and one was a $100 local pickup.

It just takes three video cards with ports that can drive more than one display at the required resolution. And three adapters.

I have since replaced two power supplys though and those go for around $50 on eBay.
