Currently? No. I was on android for a bit because i figured “maybe the grass is greener on the other side”. Could not WAIT to come back to iPhone. Got myself a 17 pro a couple weeks ago. I love it. I know it seems like all these updates feel the same for everybody, but thats probably because you’re not really meant to upgrade every single year. The upgrades feel better after 3-4 years. Then you get a package of a few years worth of new features. Even if small, it adds up

the snail paced incremental updates, the AI fiasco, intentionally grotesque design, recent price gouging (of apple products in general) - anyone else have general iPhone & Apple fatigue and just losing all interest?
A phone is just a tool to get things done. Irrespective of brand, all phones are pretty similar. Personally I'm tired of all the useless wars in the world 🤷🏻‍♂️. If you're bored with Apple, try an Oppo phone while they're still available 😂

I mean there aren’t many big rumour sites for most tools out there. Consumer tech and Apple specifically definitely has an element of excitement / enthusiasm behind its developments…

Fully with you on the useless wars

Interest? My iPhone isn't very interesting, but it is useful. My fridge isn't very interesting either, but it's also useful.

And, realistically, what are the options? You could always buy a phone from a different manufacturer, but you'd be using the device in the same way, for the same purposes.

The fundamental misconception here is "interesting" is an inherent and essential quality that tools and appliances need to have. They don't.

Well i’d hazard a guess you’re not an active member of fridgerumors.com so clearly there’s some interest here

If you experience fatigue with your iPhone, I suggest trying a new phone case and installing iOS 27 beta and your iPhone will feel fresh again.

It sounds like many of you have chosen your iPhone as your drug of choice. In the mid 1980’s or so my first cell phone came in a big bag with a shoulder strap, and every time i used it it looked like I was calling in an air strike. Today’s technology is remarkable in may ways, and certainly not boring. Embrace it.

yes, kind of tired. I don't want to pay €200 more every 4-5 years for a device that does essientially the same with minor improvements that are often offset by a minor decline, e.g, worse battery life on ipads, overprocessed camera, loss of headphone port, bigger size, more prominent camera hump, worse UI design but more bugs, more subscriptions...).

For me it's also not just the iphone. e.g. I haven't had my homepods for a very long time, but as it looks, instead of just offering new Siri over the cloud (it's mostly gemini anyway), Apple will just exclude them from it. Yeah, no, I'm not going to drop another $800 on 2 speakers that sound worse than $500 speakers but don't have line-in or bluetooth and could be obsolete in 6 years (partly because they don't offer a line-in or bluetooth). I don't see a real competition to the Apple ecosystem yet, but I'm ready to think different.

I can get general tech fatigue from constantly looking at what might be coming and looking at every possible upgrade that has or might happen. That's generally a sign I'm wasting too much of my life with obsessing over pointless things that I probably won't buy for a few more generations anyway and I could be doing something better with my life.

Last week I went partially off-grid and bike-packed all over the countryside. Was great to be away from constant distractions and the modern-day propensity of trying to stuff more "content" into my head, and actually being able to think for a few days. Funny how things like incremental tech changes that don't really matter are of no concern when I get out in the real world and there's better thinsg to do. My 3 year old iPhone still works great and did everything I needed it to.

The only "tech thought" I had is maybe I should get the battery replaced so it lasts longer when I'm in the middle of no-where and I might need to contact someone, update route plans, or I'm photoing/videoing lots of things without needing battery boosters.

I like tech and work in tech, but if I'm getting bored of reading about tech or the products themselves, then my behaviour is the problem, not the tech.

At the end of the day the iPhone is just a communication device (and media viewer). The best communication I did all week was going visiting people I haven't seen for ages in person. No tech can out-do that, and I can consume media on anything these days.

No, but I'm on cookery forums, camera forums, music equipment forums. etc.. My wife collects and restore Barbies, so she's on Barbie forums.

In this way, all enthusiast forums are the same, obsessing about minor changes, feature, novelties etc, and none of these things are interesting to the wider userbase.

My point is that the phone, the laptop etc is just the equipment. Go on a guitar forum, and you'll find people outraged about Fender currently (or at least recently), but the reality is that the guitar is far less interesting than the music made on a guitar.

The equipment isn't interesting, what the equipment is used for is interesting. And the best music wasn't made on the "best" guitars.

It's easy to lose sight of this on an enthusiast forum like MR. People bang on about Apple's various products and updates, but non of these things are in anyway important expect for enabling people to use this equipment as tools to make interesting stuff.

At the end of the day, it doesn't matter if someone used an M4 Mac Studio or an M2 MacBook Air to render out a piece of video. What really matters is the output - the video itself.

I'd rather listen to Dave Gilmour play than look at a photo of one of his many guitars.

The fault lies with us, not them. They make devices largely for people on a 3-4 year upgrade cycle who just wander into the Apple Store when their old one becomes a chore.

It serves Apple's marketing team well that they are a company with an enthusiast audience but ultimately te tech news cycle isn't a form of entertainment and its ok to be bored with it.

We all need to put our devices down, log off the web and read a book, walk a hike, play a videogame, go to the pub or a million other more interesting things than over-analysing a company that makes telephones and computers.

Just wait until the iterations of the iPhone after the all screen design. The only other improvements will be very small. Basically only camera improvements.

Who said you have to? 😂

But the reality is that most consumers don’t think like you and you can’t impose your will or opinion on them or Apple.

No offence intended, but no company is going to cater only to you. 🤣

Buy what you want when you want, for whatever reason you want. 🍻

Agree with you but I think both things are true.

Don’t know much about guitars but I am a photographer. So let’s take Sony alpha rumours for instance.

Far less of an interesting device than an iphone and photos / videos are of course more important than the camera

But the idea of a new comprehensive portable camera with built in nd filters, advanced codecs, high frame rates, sensor technology etc etc is still exciting for many. It’s the “what’s possible” aspect of a product

With a phone you’ve got the added wearable / design aspect plus the fact it’s such a commonly used device

My initial post was just highlighting the decline of that anticipatory aspect more than anything related to the utility side of things

Mine is just the constant barrage of bugs that still exist. Like the App Library getting all screwed up after a reboot and everything going into a single folder for hours before its back to normal.

Or Homekit in the control center not working and the buttons not being assigned to anything anymore, randomly.

Or iMessage apps not loading and having to force close Messages several times before they load.

Things that have been there for years, reported to Apple for years, and still exist to this day.

Try installing the public beta. 😂

summary: spent too much time and energy on phone.
How does noticing Apple's obvious failings constitute spending "too much time and energy on phone"?

I installed iOS 27 and it didn't take me any time at all to notice its failings. It either took you a long time to notice or you have yet to notice, but, either way, you're in a poor position to throw shade at someone who simply noted that when it comes to innovation, Apple is falling farther and farther behind.

Yes, I do.

All I want is a small, light, pocketable iPhone to do the essentials ...

And every year all the options seem to get a little thicker or heavier or add more stuff I don't want or care about.

I'm nearly into the camp of wanting an iPhone that runs WatchOS at this point.
That's how ridiculous it has gotten.
The 13 mini is perfect . . . it is small, lightweight, and disappears inside your pocket. They are cheap, by today’s standards, to get in refurbished excellent condition, and with a new battery will last the day. I use my Green 256GB 13 mini as a backup to my 128GB 15 Pro and have been doing fine using these devices.

No "iPhone fatigue" here, maybe because I'm not trying to fill an empty space in my life with a tool.
I don't know anyone who uses tools who isn't concerned when their quality falters. In fact, the more serious the user, the more seriously they regard the quality of their tools. Come to think of it, are you sure you even know what a tool is?

In a sea of mainly ever increasing heavier and thicker devices the iPhone Air is a breath of fresh air for me!

A 6.5” screen which is great for content viewing that isn’t attached to a thick & heavy brick like device, it’s comfortable to hold for long periods, it’s easy to balance and move around one handed without fear of dropping it, and it doesn’t weigh your pocket down (doesn’t feel like it’s there, light as air) lol

It may have too many compromises for some but the iPhone Air has made me fall in love with iPhone again

No fatigue here.
I would almost go for an air (especially it the camera had better zoom) but I’m hesitant to buy any line that apple could kill off in a couple years leaving no upgrade path. Hopefully air becomes a yearly or every two year phone for many years to come but I could see apple dropping it in 3 years in favor of the standard iPhone, fold and pros .

I feel for the mini fans in this regard.

Price gouging? There is high demand for chips, also, inflation was eventually going to hit iPhone. That whole supply and demand thing. They have to maintain the margins, you don’t like it, you can just not buy one this year, or get an Android.

Me? I’m keeping my 17PM and not upgrading, but upgrading my Series 10 to an Ultra 4.
I think it's the price elasticity of demand that determines the extend to which firms are able to pass on cost increases to their customers. You're right that people who don't like it don't have to buy. It sounds like that's what your doing, and I'm doing the same. Needless to say, if enough people decide that the price increase is too much and opt out as well, Apple will probably rethink their strategy and we'll start to see lower prices on Amazon, if not from Apple itself. Better to have a lower profit margin while maintaining your sale numbers than a lower profit margin as your sales plummet.
