Hello everyone,

Got my Gold Max and I’m loving it. Been on the yearly iPhone upgrade train since 2007.

This is the first iPhone where I can clearly feel a sharp edge on the stainless band, between the screen and the band. It’s the weirdest thing. It’s not the entire perimeter (the corners are smooth for example) but boy is it noticeable.

My 2017 X is smooth as butter all around. So has every other iPhone I’ve owned. I’m going to give it a couple of days and see if it still bothers me.

Anyone else feeling my pain, haha!!

I don't feel that on mine, but I've already put mine in a case too. I went a few hours with it naked, but case and screen protector already installed.

I feel the same sharp edge around the glass. I assumed it was the new normal. The glass is just a hair to small to cover edge of the steel sides.

Yes, a couple others have already made posts about it.

My XS has rough edges on bottom right hand corner and right side. Going to apple Monday to see what they say

My gold Max is perfect. No rough edges anywhere. My silver Xs is also perfect, even better than my X.

Only thing weird about my Max is the texture. It feels weird. Like... grippy/squeaky or something. All over. It’s much different than my silver X and Xs, which are both just super smooth.

You’re the third Member now to have the same issue with the sharp edges, and two of the members are exchanging their phones. I would suggest you do the same if it’s not comfortable to hold, and Apple will easily replace your device.

I noticed the issue after reading about it on another thread, but I don’t think it’s a deal breaker for me yet. I’ll report back later after I’ve used the device more throughout the weekend.

Mine has a sharp part by the bottom left antenna band which I assume is due to it not sitting flush to the band?

I had a X before where there was a noticeable rough feeling between the glass and side band, argos eventually agreed to replace it and the replacement was fine.

Re my max I am about to contact apple support

Others have mention that the gold MAX has a more tacky feel than the silver which is more slippery.

Well, the AT&T store was a bust.

Them: “We can’t exchange, just return. You have to go to Apple”

Me (holding the box and AT&T receipt from yesterday): WTF?!?

So I called Apple. The moment I said “‘sharp’ edge” I got bumped to a “Product Safety Specialist” haha!! They took down all kinds of info and said they’d get back to me within a few hours.

So we’ll see...I just want an iPhone that won’t cut me, haha!! :D

Noticed this same issue when I took my Silver Max out of the box, ran my fingernail across the edges and it has smoothed out the roughness, but I also worry about the waterproofing if the screen is in fact sitting above where it should be. I’ve seen in other threads on this topic that people have had success swapping for a new one in Apple stores. Might take a ride over later today and have them look at it.

What I feel now is the edge of the stainless steel. On my X, it just feels smooth, like seemless

Gold Max here and the edge of the screen does feel rough/sharp. Do you have to make a Genius Bar appointment to swap it out?

Technically you can, but if it was me, I would just walk in, explain your situation and then walk out with a new device if they have the one you want in stock.

I have slightly rough edges on my X - isn’t it the gasket between the screen and the steel band? It may not be entirely flush so you catch your finger on it

Just got back from the Apple store, they were willing to return my Max with this issue and give me a new one. Only problem is that I went through the IUP and would have to go through another credit pull to do so. Didn’t want to do that right now, so I held off. I got the edges to where they don’t feel sharp anymore, so I’ll give it a few days and see if it really bothers me, which it really hasn’t yet. Said if I don’t want to do the IUP over again, that I could wait till they get replacement units in and swap it out through the Genius Bar.

So just a heads up to those on the IUP program, they’ll do another credit pull, or at least that was my experience at that particular Apple Store (Paramus, NJ).
