I know. I keep reading rumors on the next iPhone this summer. Should be pretty amazing, bigger screen, dual core, and best in class battery life. Hoping that iOS5 adds widgets and notification system.

No, I held it as I normally would to check my email.

Btw, I love the level of maturity and Apple Fanboy-ness on this forum based on the first two replies.

Give me a friggin' break. The Android OS is crap. If you're willing to give up a quality OS and quality Apps, then go back to the Android. You're not going to get any sympathy here.

Many of us have used the 'Droid OS and know it has a long ways to go to catch up to the polish of iOS. Plus, the Apps are no where near the quality you'll find on the iPhone.

You're the perfect example of the person that wants to be pissed off or unsatisfied with something. If it wasn't the iPhone, it would be a Nokia, etc.

It's pretty ridiculous on this site and quite comical. I don't even have to hold my phone to get it to drop to 0 bars and no data connection and I live in a 3+ MBPS location. I just have to put my finger across the gap and everything drops. I don't understand why people think you need to squeeze the phone to the point of breaking to cause the antenna to fail when all it takes is my little finger.

I'm not sure if this has already been mentioned but, you guys should download an application called boxcar it is a push notification system for email. It's FREE and it works. Can't argue with that.

I talked to my sister yesterday and she wants to return hers. She decided that she's not ready to give up her cheaper plan with Sprint and pay more for VZW plus she said that the phone was frustrating her. She's attempting to port back to VZW and return her iPhone.

Hmm...

One thing the OP mentioned reminds me of an office I work out of from time to
time where it's exactly equidistant between two distant cell towers.

Blackberries, Droids, Treos and iPhones all end up with terrible battery life in that office because the phone is constantly trying to hold onto a cell connection and
the two towers (sounds like a book or a movie) seem to be distant enough that
the phone is constantly pinging back and forth trying to maintain a connection.

That being said, I generally leave the office at the end of the day with 65-70% battery left and I use the phone a lot.

Wow, the cat fighting in this thread is amazing. The OP came to the wrong place if he was expecting civil discussion.
Not a fanboy. Everyone knows its a non issue that was completely overblown. The other issues that you stated all make sense. Droid and iOS have advantages and disadvantages. "Antennagate" is really not something worth returning the phone over.
And the world doesn't exist when you close your eyes at night. Just because it doesn't happen to you, personally, it doesn't exist. Check.

I still think it is weird that I have had no antenna issues at all, and receive as good or better signal than any phone I've ever owned.
Could be build quality variances or signal area penetration. You won't notice a problem if you're in a full-bars area.

1) There is no antenna issue unless you man handle the crap out of it

2) Battery life is excellent, I find your statement hard to believe

3) Notifications are excellent as they are right now

4) Good for you
1) Consumer Reports and many others have pointed out setting a coin across the two antenna joints loses signal strength. This is not the same thing as a death-grip antenna attenuation problem.
2) If the phone is sitting hunting for a signal all day, the battery goes down fast. This is true of any phone. Just because your battery life is excellent...
3) You seem to be the only one who believes that.

Does it say "Only Positive posts about Apple are to be posted somewhere?"
Well... it's implied... ;)

Jailbreaking would have given you everything you wanted. Too bad you didn't look into it.
Jailbreaking won't help with signal issues.

Well, we can be pretty certain it's not going to have a bigger screen.

Go cry somewhere else Op nobody cares I think this is a worthless thread just so you could complain about your personal problems.

I think everything is fine in this Os everything runs smooth as butter unlike android that lags and even has bugs
Damn, even when I was 12, I could put together a more coherent couple of sentences, with punctuation, than that.

You see, this is not an issue when you've got full bars and you're full of kool-aid. The trouble comes when you're in an area with very poor signal (less than 1 or 2 bars). Then, a simple finger over that antenna joint can make all the difference in the world.

Wow. Idiocy at it's finest. Only ignorance and fanboyism will cause you to dismiss "antennagate". The only reason data and calls are acceptable on my phone is because I have a case on it.

And it's a damn shame you have to cover up that sweet looking phone to get it to work correctly.

3) You seem to be the only one who believes that.

Actaully, I am quite happy with the notification system on the iPhone. In fact, I sometimes thing it is too chatty by default. I turned off the email notifications, as that was just completely worthless. I get a couple thousand emails a day, including all sorts of automated system reports. I really don't want my phone beeping, buzzing or blinking every few seconds. That was EXACTLY what was happening before I turned it off, except for the blinking.

Text messages and phone calls are more important, and I would think that something to draw your attention to a voice mail would be nice. Other push notifications, like from facebook, ebay, etc... Just annoying crap that wakes you up in the middle of the night.

So... If you want some enhancement to notifications... I would not object to an LED that would blink, but can also easily do with out, as I never see the LED in my pocket.

I will wait until the next iPhone comes out, as I have to wait that long to upgrade from my 3gs anyways. My mom is perfectly happy with her iPhone 4, although I find her pictures to not be as good as a normal camera would be.

One think I did wish the iPhone had... a native voice to sms feature, like hte EVO has. Other than this... I see no advantage between the EVO and hte iPhone4. They both have the same speed processor and RAM. The iPhone has a smaller, but higher resolution screen. The EVO has a kickstand.

so glad the maturity on android forums is at a much higher level than here.

to the OP, you won't get valid civil discussions at a forum like this. i would say most users that idle in here are the stereotypical iPhone user: 16, living off of parents money, and spoiled.

I usually don't post on these arguments as they drive me insane to read them, but I had to say something on this. Putting a coin acros the antenna joints will no doubt take signal strength away because of the simple and rather obvious reason of its taking current/charge whatever you want to call it from the antenna. That is why if you hold it in the death-grip you lose signal strength it's because you are taking charge away from it. Your hand can act as a conductor of electricity just like a coin could.

"my phone literally goes from 99% to 40% by 2pm each day"

thats quite strange. the first day i got my iphone i didnt charge it and i watched youtube for 6 hours straight. and i still had like 40% left on my battery.

I am convinced the Verizon ip4 I got was defective (returned it after 5 days). While I had excellent signal I had horrible data speeds and the GPS was so inaccurate it was useless. Verizon refused to replace the phone. (I am skipping over a lot of detail here that has already been posted in another thread.) The more I read about others' experiences the more I am convinced I had a lemon.

OP: Yesterday, I was almost in your shoes (minus the antenna problem).

I'll start by saying that I haven't had any signal issues... In fact, my phone shows more bars than my Droid X or Droid Incredible did. Call quality is excellent as well. I was very pleased by the call quality. I don't think I've ever had a better sounding call. Compare this with my Droid X: the ear speaker broke within 5 months of owning it. Call quality was seriously degraded on that phone.

I can tell the iPhone is built much better than my previous Droid phones. For that reason alone, I have decided to keep it.

Another thing that bothered me was the very limited ecosystem, even when jailbroken. It seems dumb to have to go around the app store to get some apps that Apple would never approve. Then I realized that the overall experience was much better than my Droid's.

Would my Droid's do everything that the iPhone would? Yes, and you can even add the unrestricted perks to the list if you want; however, I still know that I would choose the iPhone any day simply for the overall experience.

You see people talking about how Apple pays attention to detail. Well, I feel it is the opposite. Apple concentrates on the overall experience. Everything is so fluid and fast.

I am like you though. . .I always thought I was "limited" to Android which is probably why you and I immediately bought an iPhone upon availability. Truth be told, I could live with either phone, but I'd rather have the iPhone.

I still think it is weird that I have had no antenna issues at all, and receive as good or better signal than any phone I've ever owned.

Excuse me? whats with the personal attacks? I came on here simply to:
1) Pose a question on a topic I was interested in
2) State my observations regarding the verizon iP4

If you don't like the topic of this thread then move on, because your brain fart of the day isn't even worth the cost of those few kbs of data that it took for you to post that comment.

And FYI, I owned apple products before you could even spell A.P.P.L.E. Its people like you that degrade the quality of these forums to what they are these days.

I can't believe that Verizon didn't exchange it for you, that's the whole point of having a manufacturing defect warranty. I'd try to take it to another Verizon store if possible, or see if Apple will send you a new one, they should. Sounds to me like you did get a lemon.

Having been a Droid user for over a year. Visiting various Android forums constantly. When it comes to Droid vs iPhone threads (or comparisons) they are JUST as fanboy crazy on their side too and the threads are VERY similar.

The grass is not greener.

I couldn't believe it either. It was so outrageous, that I asked myself why am I dealing with this company. I sent the iphones back to Verizon. Their response cost them 4 lines of service. At the time it seemed like that didn't matter to them.

When dealing with issues with At&t I could eventually get to a decent Tier 2 support person. This was not the case with Verizon. Never got to someone who understood the technical issues. For instance, my data speed was non existent- benchmarks were showing 9kbs or less. Using Nice Trace I saw that the Verizon servers were dropping packets- 100% or more due to retransmitting. Even opened a ticket on the issue. Never got resolution, never had anyone who could understand what was going on. All were very pleasant. Seems they confused politeness with competency.

I can't believe it because I've always had stellar service from Verizon, no matter what the issue was. It's a shame they treated you that way and I don't blame you one bit for your choice in the matter. Even when I had issues with my Eris they were very helpful and totally cooperative, if they had treated me like that I'd have dumped them like a hot potato, ETF fees be damned. So, get an iPhone on AT&T and flip Verizon the bird, I would.
