Yes a poorly informed Chat rep strikes again. It can and will be fixed but they have to enter the information into the Verizon system. If you can't wait until Monday you might stop by your local Verizon store and have them open a ticket with the IMEI / EID numbers and have them verify the numbers are correct. They are long and often miss-typed..

The other option is to return to the Apple store and ask for help or do a return and purchase another one as it might be recognized in the system. The Apple store should be able to get through to Verizon but on weekends it is somewhat hit or miss even before the pandemic.

Thanks, i can def wait until monday. It's certainly not the biggest deal. Just a waste of time, and being transferred around. Making me think I am crazy.

Their Twitter support confirmed it's a known issue. You can send them the IMEI number and they will start the process to fix it.

At least I know I’m not the only one. I tried to swap it out and had the same issue. Hopefully it’ll work within a day or two.

VZW giving me the same runaround, 3 calls, wasted time, supervisor etc....they told me November! Is the soonest it will be updated. I’ll call back and try another rep and see if they can manually add.

I’ll call myself a luckier one. Only took 2 transfers to get to a rep that knew what I was talking about. She was able to take the IMEI/EID and open a ticket.

Fingers crossed.

To those who had a rep take the info- what was the outcome? How long did it take to get cell connection?

Same here, only thing Apple told me the watch is defective. Ended up returning the watch, but and new one and the same thing. Verizon knew it was a problem and they opened a ticket for me, I have to wait 7-10 days for the IMEI to update.
Apple told me because I have a business account, I can’t add the watch. Too bad they don’t know what they’re talking about.
Apple and Verizon got to get their **** together!

Agreed! Same issues here.
I actually had Vzw and Apple on a merged call.
apple- it’s a Vzw problem
Vzw- Apple needs to release the numbers, can’t do a thing until they do.
apple- just plug in the numbers and activate.

that was the jist of it until I lost the call.

Apple won’t mass release the database numbers and Verizon won’t train staff how to input manually? No wonder the people here are so frustrated.

I am beginning to think Apple kind of rushed this launch. First, they release iOS 14 and watchOS 7 with 24 hours notice for developers, the they release betas of the next version of both that remove the only truly new feature of one of the new products they are launching the next day (blood O2); then they release a product that can’t even access cell networks.

The beta thing is on me too (maybe mostly). I chose to participate and I got into a whole debacle with back-ups that got me in too deep to roll back anything.

oh well, at least the cell thing affects a large number of devices. Hopefully that means it gets attention and a fix soon.

I hate to sympathize with Verizon here . . . But it kind of sounds like this should be Apples problem.

That said, do other carriers not use this database or is this some weird Verizon quirk? I have only seen issues reported with Verizon. What are other carriers doing to get around this if they use the database?

It affects other carriers as well.

I wish there was a way to teach Apple a valuable lesson. Everybody should send back their Watch on Apple‘s dime, but I know that will not happen. Perhaps those affected can get a free watch band 🤯

Verizon told me yesterday 2-3 business days until data is in the system.

With Apple the issue got escalated up and I was told they will own it from now on. The Senior Advisor will call me this PM with an update.

I will post when I know more.

I too am in the same boat. After two calls finally got a senior tech at Verizon who entered the IMEI and EID numbers and told me it would take ~24 hours. He's going to call me back Sunday to check if it got updated. Hopefully this will be resolved in the future as it is a pain in the a#@ to deal with this every time you get a new watch from someone other than Verizon. He told me they don't load IMEI and EID numbers from BYO (bring your own) watches automatically.

Same boat. Spent my entire Friday talking to VZW & Apple. Ended up taking the unit back to Apple only to have the same issue. Had to talk to 2 different VZW chats and 3 different associates (after they dropped chats or transferred me) until I found someone slightly knowledgeable of the matter. They said it was a major ticket and hopefully would be resolved this weekend. We shall see.

This should be in the front page of Macrumors or some other Mac news site. This seems like a big deal that could use some attention so it gets resolved quickly.
Agreed. Pretty ridiculous with such a big product that Vzw reps are cluesless to help

[Update] I was just able to activate both of my series 6 watches via the Apple Watch app. They must have gotten around to entering my IMEI numbers.
