I will be getting one today or tomorrow. My only sticking point is Apple's price range. On second thought, it will be the 64 Gig.
Not out until the 22nd (pre-orders on the 15th). No need for 64gig. I have owned the 64gig model and at no point over the two years have I come close to even half that. There's just no use case for it.I will be getting one today or tomorrow. My only sticking point is Apple's price range. On second thought, it will be the 64 Gig.

I swear the price difference was more last time. $30 is pretty negligible. It's $30 Au more. It just doesn't seem worth risking it for such a small price difference.
Although I probably won't use it.

Not reported in the keynote, but supposedly the new phones support shooting in 24fps (film mode). Would be odd if not supported on new Apple TV.Been waiting for a 4K apple TV for about a year as my Shield TV appears to be a bit of a dog.
I'm really hoping it supports proper 24hz output this time round though as telecine judder is a massive peeve for me.
It'll also be hugely frustrating if it's not able to output Atmos over DD+.
Not as a bitstream over HDMI. But nothing prevents an app from decoding these formats and sending them to the AVR in PCM format (which is a lossless process). E.g. Infuse does that.Looks like the Apple TV 4k still doesn't support high quality audio formats such as DTS, TrueHD, etc?
Yet here you are telling people there's no content to a guy with a South Sydney avatar.
Yeah from that it's clear he doesn't understand that buying a 1080p panel in 2017 gets you a low-end junk TV. 4K is here and if you want decent equipment it's the only thing to get anymore because that's where manufacturers are putting their best panels, image processing, software, SoC's, etc. Not saying someone with a nice 1080p panel from 2015 should rush out and replace it, but if you're in the market, it's 4K or garbage.
I still haven’t updated to a 4K tv. I was thinking of getting the new Apple TV so I could start purchasing WW movies in 4K... but I’ve heard the studios want to charge a 5-10$ premium over HD. 4K isn’t worth that to me. I actually think SD should be disconnected, HD should drop to SD pricing and 4K should be at HD prices.
I’m not sure why the studios think there is any value in a 5-10$ premium. It doesn’t cost them any more to produce 4K digital over HD...

Eh it's a newer codec so the physical size of the files are roughly 1/2-1/3 depending on the quality of the compression and it really doesn't cost Apple nor the studio more money to provide a 4k video since it's being conformed for UHD releases too. If anything Studios were unnecessarily slowing growth by charging prices nobody was willing to pay for. Especially with Netflix and Amazon providing 4k HDR content for no big cost over HD.The free upgrade from Hd to 4k is mind blowing for me , with my 350+ itunes movies , this is the bargain of the century !!

I think if you're primarily interested in video it's unlikely you'll get anything out of the 64GB. But *if* games are actually updated to take advantage of the higher resolution, they may come with bigger textures that would use more space and could potentially make use of the additional flash.
Yes it does. The cost is significantly more which is why most movies released today have their DI's done in 2K. The cost of editing and storage space for 4k is huge.

My thought exactly, I have the 32GB and I have no clue how to even come close to filling it up.
Unless I load a tonne of useless apps.
App quality for tvOS leaves alot to be desired IMO.

By the time that happens you will buy the Apple TV 8K...
I bought my Apple TV and I have yet seen any games that would use that much space, and then there is the issue you need a bluetooth controller and they are way overpriced. And for that money just buy a Xbox on sale and you can have WAY more power and game variety.
Don't get me wrong, I wanted the Apple TV 4 to succeed and games to be developed but, AAA devs have no interest in porting games to it. Even older ones don't come at a fast enough rate to fill 64GB of space

Not 50% more...
Let's say HD $10, UHD $15.
That's a 50% price increase and there is no actual cost in storage that justifies that.
And FYI, I am a Storage Administrator (NetApp, EMC, HP3Par)
Adding on my big post already, the only way IMO games can take off on this new 4K Apple TV is if Apple develops and sells (not the usual Apple prices) a Bluetooth controller.

Yes I think that was the biggest announcement for the Apple TV ecosystem. Huge! And will make others like Google lower their pricing. More competition, better for everyone![]()
