Secret - what are you comparing the phone to that you get the same result?
Are you shutting off auto-brightness in the store to compare, etc? Same brightness? Which gen phones are you comparing it to? Which phone did your 3GS replace?

Turn the white on black feature on the 3gS and compare it to the whites on the 3g, does it make a difference?

Auto brightness shut off on all phones. Same level of brightness set. Comparing old 3g 16gb with my new 3gs 32mb black to display 3gs 16gb black (they don't have any 32gb on display). My old 3g looks "cool" white and close to the display 3gs. MY 3gs has the yellow tint to it (or warmer). It's also washed out compared to the other phones which is important to viewing photos.

Also got back from genius bar and swapped my phone again. Still has the same problem. I notice the dispay 3gs phones made in the 21st week all looked much better, but unfortunately the genius had 24th week replacements (like the one I had) and low and behold I have the same issue as I did before.

I wish Apple would address this issue sooner than later.

I dunno...my original phone shipped from Apple was a week 21 and it was...bad...one of the washed out ones.

I have a Black 32GB 924 and it's only noticeable when I stare at a white background and using safari and landscape texting.
The yellow is spotty all over the screen with concentration on the bottom.

I guess I can live with it until Apple finds a fix since no one is having success with screen exchanges thus far. Annoying nonetheless.

My letter to Apple Feedback:

Dear Apple and the iPhone Team,

I purchased my 32GB iPhone 3GS yesterday at the Farmington, CT Apple Store. The drive is about 35 minutes. The whole experience between receiving my iPhone and walking out of the store was perfect. The staff was friendly, the store was clean, and the process went smoothly.

The problems began once I arrived home and began using the device. Upon opening Safari I noticed the bottom half of my screen was noticeably yellow. I experienced large fluctuations in signal strength while the phone was resting on my table; between 0 bars and 5 bars. Finally, I noticed 4 chips in the bezel where it meets the glass in two different areas.

After having taken two trips - nearly 140 minutes of driving - to have my older iPhone 3G replaced for chipped bezels and other defects, I am disappointed to have to make what could be another two or three trips to my closest Apple store to replace a poor quality phone. I realize with mass production errors can and do happen, nevertheless no one will reimburse me for my time to replace a defective $700 product, so I am left with no choice but to inform you - Apple - of your mistakes with the hope that precautions will be taken in the future to prevent such errors. If not, I am afraid it will no longer be worth my time to purchase your merchandise.

Sincerely,
M. Ciarlo

Sending my letter now (same idea for content).

Good job.

Just got back from the apple store. They are going to replace the phone, I just have to wait for more to ship in. For all you non-believers, here's what apple put in the work order receipt they gave me.

P.S. after I described the problem, the genius immediately asked me to install the flashlight app to see the entire screen as white. Sounds like he knew exactly what to do the moment I told him the problem.. makes me think Apple knows about this and there's a procedure for diagnosing it.

Thanks Mike for posting the screenshot...I'm still waiting for my iphone to ship from AT&T....I pray mine won't be like this...sorry about your iphone....

I'm not going to take a pic of my receipt but my genius also wrote:

Issue Description: Slight yellow tint on screen
Steps to Reproduce: Verified by testing with iphone 3G
Issue Verified: Yes
Proposed resolution: Replace iphone

Only problem I still have the issue on another phone :(

But keep it up, let apple take notice of this.

So they replaced it with another with the same problem?

Yes. They have to swap the SIM card before they boot up the new phone. You basically have to take your chances and hope when you do a restore, it will work out better. Based on time and money, I had to have the phone activated before I left the store. Once I made it to work, I did the restore.

Honestly, I didn't have high hope this issue would be resolved.

How does my screen look, guys?

It also looks perfect to me.

I have a phone with a two-toned screen. I wouldn't care about a warmer setting, if the whole thing would look even.

My iPhone looks dirty or "burned" at the bottom. It gets very annoying when writing an email in landscape or surfing the web in Safari.

Thanks a lot guys. It's my second 3GS (The first was returned due to adhesive coming out of the bottom between the screen and the bezel, and also the screen was lifting on the left side.) They gave me a brand new 3GS (in factory box and shrink wrap, No white box replacement phone.

If it's any help to you guys,

It's a Week 24 White 32GB iPhone 3GS that was purchased at an Apple Store.

Adjusted the saturation so the yellow stands out. It's not as bad as some, but very noticeable on the bottom.

Yes!

My iPhone 3GS arrived on Monday, had some screen problems dim and yellow, compared to 2G & 3G I have compared to. went to Apple Store which was a waste of time (already had a rant about it in a previous post).

Cutting a long story short, I called my carrier today and they are swapping out a NEW replacement in the morning. No need to argue or get stressed.

Apple are playing this one down like they did with my 1st Gen iPod nano. Deny, deny, deny!

Apple 0 - 1 O2

Just got back from the Apple Store. The genius was very good. He took one look at my yellow screen and agreed that it was terrible. He tried to convince the manager to give me a brand new retail replacement, but since I ordered online at the Apple Store, I had to get a white box. It's still a brand new week 24 iPhone, so I agreed.

He let me activate the new one and compare it to my previous 3GS and my 3G. While the new 3GS looks warmer than my 3G, it looked A LOT better than my original 3GS.

It still isn't the same screen as the 3G or display model 3GSs but it looks good enough for me. I think the warmer screen looks more natural than the blue/pinkish screens.

I have one of the better screens, and I really wish that I didn't have to exchange my iPhone. There's metal under the screen on my iPhone, and it's really annoying... I hope I get the same screen again.

does it have a refurbished serial?

Genius replaced mine for yellow screen problem no questions asked. :)

refurbished?

i plan on exchanging for a better screen but don't want a refurbished unit.

Here's my 2nd white week 24 32GB 3GS. The first went back because of a dead pixel. Overall, I'm pretty happy with this one. It's definately warmer than my wife's 3G, but not overly so I don't think. As far as the yellow at the bottom, every once in a while I'll look at my iPhone at a weird angle or in some sort of odd lighting and I think it looks a bit yellow at the bottom, but then when I look directly at it looks fine. I think my eyes are playing tricks on me.

For those of you with the yellow bottom half, it's noticable enough where you don't have to look hard to find it in Mail or Safari or Flashright, right?

Anyway, here's mine. Screen protector is the Power Support Anti Glare film. Ignore the dot to the right, that's dust/trash that fell onto the screen before taking the picture.
