Only way you get a brand new retail unit is to try and reserve one and do an exchange or return & repurchase. Problem now is that if you received it on launch you are past your 14 day window so you would be left with a white box replacement which still at this point should be new.

Is there a way to tell if the white box replacement is a new or refurbished phone?

Anyone who's gotten their new iPhone replaced at an Apple store in the last couple days, did you get it replaced with a new one from a new sealed box or was it a refurbished one? Can you tell if you're given a refurbished as a replacement?

I had my t-mobile phone replaced with a brand new sealed one last October 5. Complete with earbuds and charger. Though, it has the same issue with the old Iphone. So they are replacing it again. Still waiting for the tracking details and hopefully its a brand new one again and not defective.

In an apple store?

When you type in the serial number to see the production week if it is in the timeframe of typical retail units now week 37-39 then there is no way it could be refurbs
No, i called applecare. It took a week though.
Still within your return window so yes it was probably treated as an exchange.

Even I pre-ordered my iPhone through t-mobile.

A white box replacement is always a brand new phone. I talked with a senior advisor about this just the other day. He said there are phones specifically made for replacement phones stock. They are brand new. Period.

Here's from my chat the other day and I quote.

"The phones are specifically made as replacement phones, and are housed in our warehouse so that we know we always have them in stock to use as replacements. They have never been used by anyone else. They are as brand new as you can get without being directly on an Apple Shelf."

Initially they are but eventually they can turn over returns for these replacements as it gets later into the product life cycle. I have no faith in these senior advisors anymore btw they talk out their...

In the beginning yes. About a month they will be refurbished. My last iPhone 6 white box had someone elses apple ID info.

Really? That's nuts I checked the serial number on my replacement that I just got and it was manufactured in the week of September 14-20th of this year. Seems brand new. Battery has 0 cycles on it. Only problem is the upper right quad and actually most of right side is slightly dimmer than the left but the screens color temp is uniform a nice cool blue without any yellowing this time. That's what I was trying to get away from! BUT there is one tiny black speck of dust in the upper left corner near the signal dots but I can just barely see it at an angle BUT ITS THERE! Nothing is perfect. 8 iPhone 6's later. Nothing is perfect. Good luck with the exchange game and OCD. I GIVE UP!

One thing that seems nice about this particular phone is it seems slightly faster than my previous 6's. Geekbench gave me a score of 1635 single core and 2921 multi core. Those are my fastest results with any 6 I've seen. I'm on 8.4.1 too. All components will vary slightly.

I've had to return every single Apple laptop I have ever purchased for some major flaw or failure. Eventually every single one was replaced by a newer or upgraded model by store managers (at no cost to me), but even though I may have received "new value" I certainly paid for that in terms of time and hassle.

While Apple may be doing better nowadays than before, they still have a long way to go in order to make the "Apple Tax" truly worthy... Just take the stress reducer designs on almost all of their cords for example-- Apple is obviously more obsessed with aesthetics rather than substance (or so it seems to me.) Maybe that's just part of being the most valued company in the world, but I sure wish they'd behave in a more pragmatic way sometimes. It's a step that's long overdue on many levels. Not like it's enough to make me switch, but it's close enough (and from many of the comments here it seems I am not alone in this thought.)

Yes they are initially as they produce a batch for replacements but after the fact they are refurbished. So technically as we speak now that is true. Just not in a few months. I know a lot of people (like the above poster) who received a device with someone else ID. It is also a chat rep...you think they know exactly what goes on in manufacturing/supply chain... they are there to tell you what you want to here. For all you know they were hired a month ago.

Wonder how many people mentioned their factory defect being a Samsung chip, between here and page 1.

A few people have complained about certain areas on the screen being darker.

i had a huge cluster of dead pixels.

I just discovered a stuck pixel in my iPhone 6s Plus back camera, not happy about this at all... :(
Just got my replacement device, and I have noticed the home button on this one is softer and has less travel. My previous one was firm and clicked loudly with plenty of travel. I might get used to the new one, but right now I dislike it, almost feels cheap or worn-out.

Also got a Samsung-manufactured A9, while I was hoping for another TSMC, mainly because of this (not because I really care how it scores in the Geekbench battery test).

I had the same exact issue with my original 6S Plus. Got it replaced at an Apple Store with a white box ( also brand new, 0 charge cycles ) and this one is perfect!

The genius marked my device defective with dead pixels when it was definitely dust under the screen!

Get it replaced!

Good to hear you got it taken care of no problems...as far as your new device I wouldn't throw the word "perfect" around here...just enjoy the phone and don't look for things wrong with it.

How to check charge cycles?

Oh it's perfect to me lol.. evenly colored screen - check ; doesn't heat up - check ; great battery life - check ; no dust under screen - check ; no scratches/marks on the screen/body - check ; no camera lens movement/wobble - check ... Think I covered most of it.. ;) :p
