I can confirm Antutu did have different numbers when i tested my 2TB 17PM.

JazzDisk Pro = 3200 Read / 2348 Write
Antutu = 3404 Read / 3225 Write

Another tool you can try is Antutu Benchmark. Run their disk speed test only and see what you get.

My 1TB results with Antutu:

The best recommendation i can give is the 100GB test.

Have 100GB on an external SSD. Move it to the iPad. Record how long it takes.
have 100GB on the Internal SSD. Move it back to the External SSD. Record how long it takes.

Convert the minutes to seconds. Divide 100,020 [1TB] by the seconds.

This will give you the full accurate Read and Write speed.

The iPhone 17 PM 512GB w/ 209 GB left has a Read/Write speed of 934 / 971

I've got it right here. Coming from an M1 iPad Pro I'm mainly just having a good time with all the design changes that came with the M4 version, like the thinner and lighter chassis, the updated magic keyboard, the new orientation of the camera, tandem OLED display, etc etc.

Happy to answer any questions though.
I am on M1, not really considering upgrade. But would love to hear about what upgrades in M5 stand out compared to M1.

Nope, UPS and their ****** delivery times are screwing me. Had to call Apple to have them make it be dropped off at an access point and they said it’ll be two days or so now. Fuming
Had missed delivery too. Last iPad 3 years ago, missed delivery as well. Different address, different driver. Not sure why it’s so hard to deliver an iPad.

Missed delivery from DHL. I was there almost all day. I had to reschedule, chose to have it delivered to a pickup point tomorrow. Don't want to spend the weekend without the new M5.

UPDATE:

After I missed delivery yesterday and the 2nd attempt was scheduled for the exact same time period, I went on a 2–hour long frantic calling spree. I contacted UPS, the AI crapbot said it’s not possible to change delivery to access point dropoff or waive the signature. I called customer service, and when it finally connected me to a person, they said I’d have to call Apple and have them change the delivery. I called Apple customer service, and they said that they could put in a request to drop off at an access point, but it likely wouldn’t take affect for a couple of days.

I got a notification from my front door camera today right on queue. I was in the middle of racing home, maybe 20 minutes away. I tried talking to the delivery guy through the camera, but the sound of my dogs barking at the front door kept interrupting my audio and he couldn’t understand me and said to call customer service to get a message to him on their dispatch. Customer service had 30 minutes wait time, no thanks. I got into my neighborhood and started driving around, looking down every street I passed for a glimpse of the UPS truck. I eventually saw him as I passed into town, stopped at a red light. I whipped into the parking lot of the Walgreens next to him and yelled that I was the one trying to talk to him on the camera and if there was any way I could get my package. He yelled back to follow him and turn into the Burger King parking lot down the road. I impatiently got back into the 5pm traffic and pulled in to find this beautiful human being sitting there just like he said. We got out, I signed for my package, and profusely thanked him for helping me out after the insane experience I’ve had for 2 days just trying to get this freaking package.

I finally got home and starting setting it up. My WiFi was getting like 2mbps download speeds (I have a 1GB plan) so I had to reset the router and all went well. Set up the new iPad, transferred my files, made some dinner and fed the dogs, and then it was time to get ready for bed. I’m sitting here with my new toy strapped to the MKB in bed, casually browsing this forum just to have some small experience with it on day 1.

Yes, OP, yes I did get the new M5 iPad Pro. I’m typing this using cellular because it’s the first cellular iPad I’ve ever had and because I freaking can. What an adventure already

Awesome story and I’m glad it worked out for you! Mine was somewhat similar, but I was able to talk to my UPS delivery guy through my Ring as I was still at work. I didn’t know a signature would be required for the iPad because it didn’t say so on the tracking page and I read that in the past certain iPads did not require a signature, stupid me.

Anyway, he generously offered to leave his phone number on a sticky note and said he’d bring it to me once I got home if I gave him a call. When I got home I called and offered to meet him instead, so he wouldn’t have to backtrack, and he gave me a spot to meet nearby. Hopped back in my car and there he was - I signed for it and I was on my way. There’s some really nice people out there.

I met my UPS driver at my door and he said it needed to be signed for, then the system wouldn't let him, so he just took a picture...lol

I’ve gone from an M1/1TB to an M5/1TB.
The most noticeable effect is the screen. It’s so sharp and pops in comparison to the M1 screen. At the moment every time I look at it is another ‘wow’ moment, especially when browsing a web site with a black background.

The MicroLED never felt poor in any way to me, but the step up with OLED is subjectively huge.

I felt the same when I made the switch from M1 Pro to M4 Pro last year. Great upgrade from my perspective.

When I was trying to talk to him on my camera, he said that he could drop it off at CVS in town if I preferred. But When I tried to answer him and say yes please do that, that’s when my audio was cutting out and he couldn’t understand me. Super lucky that I found him and he was so cool about everything!

I want to chock this to the device still getting started, but I’m very disappointed in the 1TB. Especially when Apple publicized double the read & write speeds.

I’ll let the device index and test again tomorrow & Sunday. if I’m still getting worse numbers, I’m packing this device up and returning

Apple needs to answer for this

You are transferring from SSD. Run a speed check on native 1 TB drive.

I’m transferring from SSD and then transferring back to SSD.

Running a speed check on the internal 1TB via JazzDiskBench gives me 5278 Read and 1932 write which is incorrect based on the numbers I’m getting.

Lower storage models are getting significantly higher #s.

I decided to do manual math to see if these apps are accurate.

Thanks for conducting all these tests. At this point, I’ll settle for a 512GB.

External drive introduces other dependencies, what is the speed of SSD, what cable are you using for data transfer. Run a test creating a file locally on iPad Pro and then reading the file. The moment you introduce external SSD, it’s not true test for internal drive.
If you are buying iPad Pro to transfer large amount of data, may be iPad Pro M5 isn’t for you.

1. what is the speed of SSD
I am using the Satechi USB4 NVMe SSD Pro Enclosure with 2TB. The enclosure is rated for a read/write speed up to 3840MB/s

the external SSD is connected to a TB5 Dock rear port. According to Blackmagic disk speed test on my M3 Max MBP, the Write speed is 1583 and the read speed is 2653.

2. what cable are you using for data transfer
The included TB5 cable

3. Other then recording 4 hours of 4K video, I'm not entirely sure how to create a 100GB file locally on the iPad.

4. If you are buying iPad Pro to transfer large amount of data, may be iPad Pro M5 isn’t for you.

While 100% of everything I do is local, I am providing clarity to those who are purchasing the higher storage models as a result of Apple's statement.

This is an image on Reddit of the M5 512GB model significantly outpacing the M4 iPad Pro. by 2X as Apple advertised.

Yet the M5 1TB is not capable of reaching these numbers.

I am excited for all of you, but incredibly disappointed for me. UPS never delivered it to me and they are sending it back to Apple.

Day 1: UPS never came even though they said they did.

Day 2: tried to release liability by attempting to sign for the package online, but UPS didn’t allow it. They left a yellow slip on my door.

Day 3: signed paperslip from day before, but they didn’t accept that either. I waited 45 minutes on the phone to talk to UPS and got disconnected when they answered.

Package is being returned to Apple and I am pissed. Never had this happen before. And I live in a gated community with cameras everywhere. Have had very expensive items delivered to the porch and have never had an issue.
