I don’t like the low ppi, lack of brightness in the display, fat bezels, outdated radios, notch, small display etc of the X. I’m going to buy one to try out but if there are any issues I’m returning it to Apple. There’s not a lot to be excited about in this phone.
Wait, you’re planning to spend $1000 on a phone you’re not excited about and you think has outdated technology? ...what?

Also, now the X has fat bezels? Some people are never happy!

No, I plan on spending $1240 (including tax) on a phone that I’m not excited about and has outdated technology and fat bezels. Hooray for being stuck in Apple’s ecosystem!

I don’t buy the “stuck in the ecosystem” argument. If you don’t want an iPhone don’t buy an iPhone. You will survive just fine with an Android phone, especially since Google’s apps and services are cross-platform. There are cross-platform alternatives to things like iMessage too. That’s too much money to spend just because you don’t want to adapt.

And give up perhaps $1000’s in software and rebuy it? Sound advice.

I’m actually sitting this one out. The small upgrade of the 8 + over the 7 + that I have now is not worth shelling out 1200 CAD for (I never buy on contract through carrier a locked phone). The X is too different to me - not just the looks but here is my reasoning: I’m using an iPad Pro 12.9 as my main device. I’ve successfully transitioned to iOS fully (and I do professional video editing and graphics too!!). I have found awesome file management in File Browser app and I have a portable WD My Passport Wireless Pro 4 TB Drive which also acts as a HUB for USB sticks, other drives, SD cards etc. So storage and file management with that combo is great and works on both the iPad Pro and the iPhone seamlessly.

Now why am I sticking with my 7 + for now? Looks aside, the X has a different user experience. Different gestures, different way of operating it. It feels foreign. I want to keep my experience more or less the same between the iPhone and iPad so I feel like when switching between them, I have just picked up where I left off. I don’t have to think about different gestures (aside from multitasking on the iPad Pro but it’s still slide up from bottom for the control Center) iPhone X changes all that and makes the whole user experience completely different!!!

Other things I don’t like about X: sometimes apps crash and freeze the screen. Till now we could use the home button to get out of them and then kill the app in app switcher. If the whole screen is frozen how do you get home of home button is gone and now home is a swipe .... on a frozen screen??!

Anyway my reasons are more user experience vs looks. I could care less about looks both the 8 and X look good... as far as a piece of technology can ‘look good’ anyway.

But for now I’ll hold on to my 256 GB 7 plus along with my 256 GB iPad Pro 12.9 (2017) they both work and look the same style (both white with silver). So all my tech looks matched. (Notice this has nothing to do with looking good vs looking ugly, but has to do with a unified experience like all of it is supposed to work together).

After weeks of agonizing I just pulled the trigger and ordered an 8 Plus. I’m sure I’ll have some new toy envy the first time I see the X, especially since my brother is getting one, but I know myself well enough to know that the 8 Plus will make me just as happy in the end, if not more so. Not ready to give up what’s known and proven for me (Home button and TouchID) for replacements that seem less intuitive to me. And unlike others, I don’t find the design of the 8 to be “ugly” or “dated”. With the black front and dark wallpaper the bezels don’t even seem so large to me. Nothing about the X seems worth the extra $350 CDN it would cost me (factoring in tax and Apple Care)

‘The older iPhone 8’? You make it sound as if it’s 5 years old (don’t come back at me with the, ‘the design is 4 years old!’ claptrap). The iPhone 8 is an amazing phone, it’s super quick and sleek. Yeah, it still has bezels, but so what? Personally I prefer a timeless, tried-and-tested design. You can be the tester for the X, and I’ll wait until it’s refined (as it inevitably will be) and buy one in a couple of years’ time. ;):p
Internally the iPhone 8 might be decent, but it IS a 4 year old design. Show me one other phone manufacturer where their phones look the same as the ones they had had out 4 years ago. Exactly. It's not because the design is timeless, if it was they would never change it, it's because they got lazy.

As for the bit in bold, the wonderful thing about choice and money is that I can do the same and buy one as well. Bingo, suddenly we both have the same refined phone and this discussion becomes moot. In the meantime I'll enjoy a more natural looking display and enhanced cameras. It's hardly so new as to be a total tester, it contains lots of tried-and-tested technology.

Yup, got the 256GB iPhone 8+ and very happy with it . I’m really feeling the design over the last few years is perfect and been refined.
As always we shall see what next year brings.

The iPhone 8 is a great phone if Google and Samsung have not put pressure on Apple releasing innovation of it's own. The iPhone 8 to me represents what would have been if Apple were allowed to continue releasing 'minor' update phones this year, and probably with the iPhone 9 next year if they could get away with it.

The iPhone X makes the most sense because it is the phone that embodies the radical design that is competitive to industry now.

The same could be said when the 6/6+ was introduced and it had problems as where the 6S/6S+ fixed them and was much better. The X is a new design with Face ID, two batteries, a folded over logic board, wireless charging and edge to edge OLED screen. It is definitely a first generation new design for Apple and will be improved upon for next year after feedback from early adopters. It makes sense to stay with a 7 Plus or buy the 8 Plus for less and wait it out until next year.

Lol I'm getting the 8+ next weekend at Sam's. I'm upgrading from a walmart 29.99 special. So I should be happy with the 8+. My brother pre ordered the X and I won't be jealous one bit.

I pre-ordered the X. I have the Iphone 6plus. I went to the Apple store to play around with the X. It is a nice phone, but I prefer the larger size of the 8. I cancelled my order and I left the Apple store with an 8 plus. I am very happy with my decision

That's a nice step up from the 6 Plus. Did you trade it in towards the price of the 8 Plus? What color and GB did you choose?
