I have always used my iPhones without any cases or protectors (since iPhone 4s, every model). Never dropped or anything, I am very careful with my devices. Never had any scratches or scuffs, though I never looked for micro scratches on screen under direct light.

For the first time ever, I dropped my phone last night on to a concrete pavement (6s, space gray). I was holding shopping bags and it slipped from my hand (how silly of me), landed screen first, bounced and rested on its back. I was sure it is done for good, I never get Applecare+ or stuff, but amazingly, not a single scratch apart from an extremely minor scuff at the bottom left.

Absolutely no scratches on screen and body, and yes I checked under direct light. I am simply amazed and delighted, never knew it could come out scratchless or without a blemish from such a drop on concrete.

Lesson learned: need to be more careful, still going without cover or cases :D.

You really just got lucky. I work with metals every day and I can tell you that 6061-T6 and 7075-T6 are just strength. It has nothing to do with scratches. That's apple's anodizing coating which is a very thin layer (0.0005" thick on the outside of the metal, 0.0005" on the inside of the metal). Regardless if its the new 7075 or the older 6061, it will dent if you drop it and will scratch if you put it on a rough surface.

I was so unlucky with my 6, it went through 3 different screen replacements. I'm thinking of buying Apple Care this year and just going naked. But for now, it's in a Midnight Blue case with a glass screen protector.
I am the definition of unlucky. I shattered my iPhone 4 on launch day when I went to go get gas ON THE WAY HOME. I'm tellin' ya, unlucky.

I put my 5 in a case the day I got it, and within hours I had dropped it and added the only scratches on the screen until I stopped using it 3 years later. I've been naked since Friday, but I want a holster for it, just haven't picked which one.

Well yeah I kind of know I was extremely lucky, but I am still like happy that it stood up so perfectly to the fall, and I will like to give a certain credit to Apple apart from my luck ha ha.

I usually just put my iPhone in a Sena slim leather pouch so that sand/dust/grit in my pocket can't get on the screen. I had a GS5 and the dang screen got a hairline scratch just from my accidentally dropping my jacket on the phone and the zipper hit the screen. Haven't had same hairline scratch issues with my iPhone 6 in over a year and now hoping the 6S holds up as well.

I would love to go naked, but I hate hairline scratches. Last three iPhones I've slapped on a Caudabe Veil and it's worked perfectly. The case has broken on a few occasions, but my phone has been flawless and I still get the near-naked look and feel.

Couldn't do anything thicker than the Caudabe. I just think it ruins the entire feel of the and aesthetics of the phone.

Isn't that just a thin case though? How does that help with hairline scratches?

My 6 was naked and now my 6S is naked, Look and feel so much better without a case! I do have a screen protector but that is is... The 6S is more durable than the 6 so should hold up well - Just check 6S drop test on Youtube!

Thinking about it on my 6S Plus after having both case and skins on my 6 plus. I think I'm going to go naked every other year. Why? Well, on a 2 year upgrade cycle, I have to buy phone at full price every other year. I kept my 6+ in great condition and sold for $600 which helped a ton in buying my 6S Plus at $849. Next year, I'll get the subsidized pricing and there's not as much stress to fully maximize resale value as the off cycle upgrade.

I am! I have SquareTrade though. I have the Apple red leather case but, like I always do, I took it off a day in.

kind of naked I guess bc I run a D-brand skin on mine just for texture so its not so slippery. It just covers the middle back is all and its really nice

Aside from the glass, which is going to be relatively fragile no matter which kind it is, the case on this iphone is exceptionally strong.

Everyone keeps on mentioning 7000-series aluminum but probably don't know exactly what else 7000-series aluminum makes. The AR15/M16 family of rifles have lower and upper receivers that are made of...that's right, you guessed it, 7000-series aluminum, specifically 7075-T6 aluminum.

And those rifles sure as hell don't need a case to be carried around in. ;)

So while these iphones are plenty durable this time around; you still don't want to drop them because of the glass screen!

I can't use my phone without a case. I paid over $1000 for this device and it needs to be unfold condition until I sell it when getting the new iPhone.

This would give me a heart attack lol.

I have not used a case with my iPhone 4s and 5s, as I hate how cases make the phones feel that much more intolerably thicker. I am tempted to do the same with my 6s+ but the phone does feel quite slippery, and the case would help "even out" the camera bump.

I got my phone on Saturday, and it still does not have a case yet. Will take my time looking for one which looks good yet does not add too much bulk to it.

Feel like getting a DBrand skin but it seems quite pricey for what it does.

I use an iCarbons skin on the front & back, nothing else. If I have a spastic moment & drop it causing a breakage then that's what insurance is for.

I am. I actually ordered the same case I had for the 6 Plus, which was the Veil by Caudabe, because that one is almost like not having a case. But I don't like it on the 6s as much, there is nothing better than the way this phone feels in your hand with no case.

So, no case for me.

With all my previous iPhones I went naked, but since getting the 6+ last year, I've used the Apple silicone case. I just find the 6 series phones too slippery without the case.

I don't use a screen protector but I do have a very slim hard plastic case on mine. I wanted to go without it but I only bought when people were talking about the bending with the 6. Figured what the hell, it still fits the 6S and is barely noticeable.
