To the original poster:
I was with AT&T and the iPhone for a couple of years before switching to Verizon and the Droid X when it launched last year. I was fed up with AT&T and just wanted a change. I liked the Droid X for a while... it was nice having more customization options, etc. However, I have grown increasingly frustrated with it due to glitches, reboots, and times when things just don't work right.
So YES, I will be buying the iPhone 4 on Verizon on February 3rd at full retail price. In the grand scheme of things, it's not that much money. An iPod Touch is half the price already and doesn't have all of the features of the iPhone. So even if we end up upgrading again, the iPhone 4 will still be valuable for years to come for use on WIFI and as a Touch device.
I was hesitant at first because I know there will be a new iPhone 5 in July, but I will be able to buy that one at upgrade price (I'm eligible in May for an upgrade). Of course, there's still a big IF because we don't know for sure Verizon will even get the new iPhone right away. And this will most likely be a minor update anyway this year. If it's not that much different, I may stick with the iPhone 4 and wait to use my upgrade pricing for the iPhone 6 in 2012 which will most likely have LTE. And LTE will be very pervasive by the time as well!
PS - On the other hand, if I were in an area that would be getting LTE right away, I might consider switching to one of those newly announced LTE Android phones. However, my area will most likely not get LTE until 2012 at the earliest and I rarely travel to areas that would have it.
