So I have a Droid X with a data plan. I was going to add a line for $9.99 and get the iPhone and switch it to my main # and activate my old RAZR on the second line. Will they force me to keep 2 data plans? Will they let me drop the data from my existing line as long as I keep the phone # active?

i would think so, you are cancelling the data plan in this scenario, in my situation we are adding an iphone and data plan and keeping the plan, just using a different smartphone

I keep going back and forth trying to decide if I want to pay full price or not. I had the iphone 4 on at&t for a few months and loved it, but hated at&t. I switched back to Verizon in October 2010 for the Droid X. I've enjoyed my Droid X, but seriously miss my iphone and the apps. The interface is just so polished while my Droid X is getting buggier everyday.

I have considered keeping my Droid X and just buying an ipod touch, but I want to have internet wherever I go so I probably will get the iphone 4. Unfortunately paying full price means I can only afford the 16gig when I'd rather have the 32.

I supposed if I activate a second line now with an old analog dumb phone I'll still be eligible for the promo price when the iPhone hits. Then I can swap my #'s just before I get the the new phone.

Why not wait for the new iPhone in a couple of months?

There is no guarantee that Verizon will get a new iPhone in a few months, and anyway if they did get a new one in June, I don't think their LTE network would be completely ready by then, so it will be better to wait till 2012.

Such a shame the CDMA iPhone will probably have worse resell value than the GSM counterpart and still cost the same with no contract. Just look at the Palm Pre Plus on CL. I wonder how good the batt life will be on the Verizon one? By the time the iPhone 4 is released on Verizon, it may not even be the best phone on their network. And if it is, it won't last for that long. iPhone may be the most popular but not really the best. I hear the next iPhone will sport an A8. I don't see anything beating Tegra 2 powered devices THIS year. There was a time when iPhone had the best hardware and software. I still think they have the best integration and simply make it work. But in those categories, it will get surpassed by the stuff I'm seeing from tablets like Xoom and PlayBook. While the APP STORE keeps the separation, you can already imagine competitors breathing down their neck when it comes to being cutting-edge.

In Los Angeles, a big Verizon population, I have sold EVERY old phone I've had in a matter of hours without any haggle over what I was asking. There's tons of people who want or need a new phone who will buy if you knock a few $$$ off the retail price. Palm? Nobody wants that phone. Selling a Blackberry, Droid, iPhone, easy. Hell, I even sold a Razr for almost what I paid for it.

I'm not sure why everyone bashes the battery life either, I can leave my Droid off the charger for a couple days before I need to charge it. Of course I usually put it in the charging dock at night before bed.

One more reason everyone thinks Verizon is going to be so good, just wait until they have you hooked and I can see all the issues with the iPhone. Right now Verizon supports their own phones and issues, but I can not wait until someone needs an exchange they will be seriously getting angry at the way this will be handled. If Verizon handles the iPhone issues anything like they handled my sons 2 day old Motorola Droid issues. I can't wait to hear what complaints people will have on Verizon, I am sure there will be many.

I'm sure Apple will handle all issues like they do with AT&T so VZ won't have to take care of any phone issues. A visit to the Apple store or a call to them usually squares away any phone issues.

yes, its very rare that apple doesnt handle iphone issues. with the exception of a few service providers in the middle east and the caribbean, apple will handle any problems

Comparing a Palm Pre to a new V iphone is pretty humorous............. actually VERY funny!

thanks for the laugh

why don't you get an ipod touch and use the droid as your phone and for texting and 3g and use the ios on the ipod touch.

Don't have enough pockets. Right front jeans - phone, left - car keys, back left - receipts, back right - wallet.

and that right there is one of the main reasons i am going to pay retail price for an iphone. dont get me wrong ipod touches are great i just refust to carry around a droid x and AND an ipod touch. as a smoker i have my smokes and lighter in one pocket and my DX in the other

That's taking a gamble considering no one knows if Verizon will be getting a new iPhone this June/July. I've been eligible for an upgrade since November, I was very close to giving up on the iPhone and settling for the Droid X but I'm glad I was patient. Not patient enough to wait until summer though, esp. since there's no guarantee a new Verizon iPhone will be available.

I figure if iPhone 5 does show up for Verizon and it's just so awesome I can't resist (doubt it), then I'll sell my gently used iPhone 4 for 300-350 and buy the 5 at retail. If the iPhone 5 lacks LTE, which I assume it will, then I'll more than likely just keep the 4 and upgrade when I'm eligible again and the iPhone 6 LTE is out.

I know I'm repeating several of my other posts on this forum, but I absolutely agree with this logic. I'd be pissed if I waited until summer, and there was no update for Verizon (or the update wasn't very significant), while I could have easily had the phone I've been looking forward to for so many years.

If it really is a big update, then I'll give in and sell my iPhone for the newly released one.

that is pretty much what im going to do. my upgrade isnt till april of next year so i might just keep the iphone 4 till next year and see where verizon is at with iphones, then again if verizon gets a sweet new iphone this summer with a dual core or something else awesome, ill most certain buy it at retail

Just as a heads up, according to a Verizon rep on their aite's forum, retail prices will be $649/$749 for 16/32 g, higher than at&ts prices

no sense in worry about another $50, when some of us will already be spending $600. this phone better rock

maybe this has been asked, but I'll throw it out there anyways.

Would it be possible to just add a new line and port over the number to the new phone then cancel my other line that is under contract. Essentially, will verizon let me port over a number, that is correctly under contract, to a different verizon phone?

A friend of mine did this when she broke her iphone 4 on AT&T and didn't have any issues.

The idea of waiting for the "iphone 5" is appealing, however it will undoubtedly be lte, which is nice, but I'm unwilling to pay the extra $10 or $15 is will likely be for the faster service. I think 3g is fast enough for what I need my phone to do, the extra speed isn't the worth the incremental price adjustment.

that would work i suppose but you would have to pay an ETF for canceling a line

from what I read in this thread, canceling an account (in a contract with my fascinate) and trying to buy an iphone 4 is impossible since they won't let you use the subsidized price within 90 days of canceling

oh ok i thought you were gonna add a line to get an iphone for 199 then switch your number to that phone then cancel the line

yeah that's what I saying, I was just also stating that you can't just cancel and reactivate.

why not just sell fascinate on ebay? they go for about $300, even bad ESN ones fetch $200

Sell it and buy the iphone outright, would surely be cheaper than paying ETFs
