Even though I don't own an iPhone (yet).

To me, the iPhone, is by far superior then any phone released or even still in the works.

If it were a GSM phone(either AT&T or unlocked) I'd give it a look, but currently I'm not gonna cancel my AT&T contract for it

I would be tempted if there was a GSM pre that was unlocked. I love my iPhone but I also have a G1 and will be getting a G2 Magic on June 2nd. I will pick up the new iPhone and a GSM Palm Pre this year when they are out. I am a bit of a phone addict.;) I think that out of the three different platforms that Palm will have the hardest time due to the fact that they will have to duplicate what Apple did with the App store. Android is a platform that a lot of manufactures will get behind so I would think that they will have a better chance of success over Palm. Apple owns the market now but I think that there is room for more growth. My 2c:)

Change the title from "anyone buying the Pre?" to "Anyone considering buying the Pre?" and you'll have a much more meaningful results. At this point it's foolish to blindly commit to buying the Pre is just as much as it is to blindly commit to buying the upcoming iPhone.

I'm most definitely considering getting the Pre.

Well said. I am myself really interested in checking Pre out. If it really does what is shown in all those palm vdos then it's going to be a great phone.

Potentially... we have a compatible CDMA network here but no news on whether it's headed this way or not.

So then pick I don't know yet.

I have been with Sprint for 9 years through the sucky coverage with good customer service and vice versa. They now have all of their ducks in a row from my perspective. I get great coverage and the customer service has improved immensely.

I signed up for the 450 minutes with unlimited texting about a month ago with AT&T to give the iphone a whirl. I was using an ipod touch. My signal in D.C. is nowhere near as good as Sprint. I have decided that I like having constant internet for the apps though. However, the iphone stinks as a PDA. Furthermore, for $10/month with Sprint, I get unlimited everything.

I'm going to give the Pre a whirl for the PDA aspects and the service. I'm going to put my iphone on a data only plan. If the Pre gradually gains most of my favorite apps. I will go back to the ipod touch full time.

Good lord no. It's a Playschool-looking smart phone with a slide-out keyboard. They're a dime a dozen.

I was with Sprint and was thinking of waiting for this Pre to come out. Then I thought about it... I had a Treo 700p and a Treo 800. Both phones were terrible and full of issues. I thought to myself "look at their past products & reputation, and look at Apples." That day I went to Best Buy and switched to AT&T and got my 16g iPhone. I couldn't be happier.

I'm pretty sure you can't put the iPhone on a data only plan...

Also, I don't think the iPhone is necessarily a bad PDA. It does all of what my old palm pilots and sony clio's did...except its better since it can flawlessly sync and interact online. I find it to be very helpful as a PDA

I'm about 80% convinced I'll be buying one. They won't be released in Canada until August, so I have a bit of time to read the reviews and compare.

The iPhone may be a great phone and entertainment device, but nobody beats Palm for PIM, and that is very important to me. Much more important than playing music, watching youtube videos or having an iFart app :p

Not even close. This is the #1 reason I want a Pre instead of the rumored iPhone 3.

The iPhone is just average with tracking phone numbers. The calendar is a complete embarrassment. The notes feature is worse than the calendar and the to-do app is a no show. I'd hardly call that doing All of what the old Palms did.

Pre's ability to sync to the cloud is going to be a game changer.

How exactly is the calendar an embarrassment? Maybe if you use a PC. My calendars are at all times synced between my iCal, google calendar, and my iPhone. The 3.0 update will make the calendar even better. The notes feature does what it says it does. Every notes app that came with my old palm pilots did absolutely nothing except save text. The additions to be added with 3.0 will, of course, make it even better. And you want a to-do app? Why don't you just pick one of the dozens on the app store that are free?

Not to mention hot sync ALWAYS gave me problems with my palms. 90% of applications were poorly made or just didn't work. I'd honestly have taken a pocket PC over my old Palms.

I'll be honest, it's been about 6 years since I've even picked up a palm device, so I don't know what's changed since then, but back then, I was never fully impressed.

That said, the Pre looks like an excellent device. I'm definitely interested in playing with one. The overhaul of the UI is refreshing because the original palm interface is just plain boring. I'm interested to see how the Pre performs in the real world. And let the competition commence.

I think I'm going to stick with the iPhone. I can't imagine having any other phone. To me, it's not just a phone, but a highly advanced computer in my pocket.

You guys need a closer look at what the Pre actually does.

click on 'features' and watch the videos and look at the screenshots

The Pre is far more of an advanced computer in your pocket. A few months ago I was as blind as you guys, I still love my iPhone to death and will be getting a new one this summer - but damn I am jealous of this Pre.
