After spending just a couple of days on the aluminum keyboard, the older Apple USB keyboards feel like complete mush to me now. I can really fly on this keyboard now because I don't have to think about mashing down the keys so hard: just a fairly light tap on a key and move on to the next one.

Couldn't agree more. (Use wired one at work)

I got to this thread searching for the bluetooth compatibility thing mentioned on the first post...

Bought a a Wireless Apple Aluminium Keyboard, for my 2nd hand Leopard iMac G4 20" (With Elgato Eye TV to replace my Telly) Need a USB Bluetooth dongle, Anyone know if this will work with the Keyboard? http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B000CI2QLQ/ref=cm_rdp_product

Just answering my own question in case anyone is searching the forums like I did...

I've just bought my Belkin Bluetooth 2 USB dongle, plugged it into my iMac G4 (Mac OSX 10.5.4) and paired it with my Apple Aluminium Wireless Keyboard and Mighty Mouse within about 2 mins. No setup (bar the actual Apple pairing process) required at all. Plugged in from box, and the Bluetooth icon automatically appeared in the menu bar.

Cannot stress just how easy (and compatible) this product is. Very pleased so far.

Back to topic... I would recommend the Wireless Apple Aluminium Keyboard... So light and perfect in a 'lounge setup' like mine with iMac as TV replacement.

Me too. I have two of these on two of my machines and would never go back. My next step is to get a Mac Mini and hook it to my TV in the living room and get another one of these keyboard.

im looking at getting one of the wireless slimlines as im getting a secondhand g4 fw800 to use as my internet tv box in the living room (50 gbp is alot so im on ebay!)

I know people are gonna debate me, but the thin keyboards, for anything other than a MacBook, are a complete joke, in my opinion. It's like Apple trying to go for the ultraslim sexy deal but losing focus of usability. There is something about the feel of a fullsize keydepth keyboard that can't be matched.

Based on Apple's moves, I will bet you in 5 years from now that our keyboards will be some kind of glossy glass touchscreen. Something like out of Star Trek. We'll see how that goes.

joke is kinda harsh, I guess I am kinda neutral on the keyboard, but the Apple Mouse does suck. I'm getting this keyboard,
http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/keyboards/keyboard/devices/4429&cl=us,en, and this mouse,
http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/products/details/US/EN,CRID=2135,CONTENTID=12134
to go with the next update of the iMac, in 3.0 flavor appearing under Our Christmas tree this December:apple::apple::apple::apple::apple:

Those periphs are sweet. The price is justifiable IMHO. Go for it. The Mighty Mouse and Keyboard are so far the worst Apple input devices I have used so far.

The wireless keyboard being the most overpriced device I suckered myself into purchasing. It's okay and gets the job done, but I can see myself selling it or trading it for the original wireless keyboard.

The MM takes some getting used to, it's about average for me. The keyboard however, needs to be redesigned and soon.

I love my svelte little wireless aluminium keyboard.

The only thing i dont like is the mapping, i have the Japanese version, which inexplicably requires you to hit "command shift +" for what should simply be a "command +" it means i have to change it back from romaji / hiragana to british layouts since photoshop wont accept the added shift.

Otherwise ... 98% perfect. Its strange going back to long key travel.

i got it over 4 months ago and am still using the batteries that came with it!

I absolutely love the wireless one.

It's got the perfect size: no number pad takes away space or get's in the way. I can type on this thing much faster than on the old keyboard, and it feels much less clunky. It's really the best keyboard I have ever bought and I literally take it to bed with me sometimes (no... as the best remote control for EyeTV and Front Row I have ever had, that is ;) ). That's were the lower weight compared to the old one and the smaller size without the number pad come especially handy. However, let me say, that I have a wired keyboard lying around on my desk, which I occasionally use for calculations with the number. And of course, I have grown up with notebooks - my first computer was a notebook with notebook keys.

The wireless keyboard is not perfect for everyone. So I really understand and do have some sympathy for people who like the old white plastic one better - be it for the number pad or for the key drop, or something. But these people can surely some keyboards from 3rd party vendors (like Matias), which should even feel and work better than the old Apple one. Face it: the old wasn't the most ergonomic keyboard or the one with the best feel to it. And if you have disassembled one, you know it's pretty darn cheaply made.

(PS: There is one small caveat however: When both the wired old one and the wireless new one are connected, the function keys for Exposé, Dashboardm, Display brightness etc. are not synchronized. They are on different "F" keys. Which is a bit annoying as I haven't yet found a way around that. But as I use the wireless one more and more, it's not that much of a problem anymore).

A bit off-topic, but where did you get the huskies under your monitors? They are so cute that I am seriously considering getting one :D

I originally bought my wireless keyboard to use with my MacBook and/or MacBook Pro. Now that I have sold them, I may end using it with my Mac Pro. The keyboard has been sitting there for about a month not getting used.

They look kinda like the ones that my school gives out (Northeastern University - Boston). I'm sure they're a generic model, though. There are plenty of schools with a Husky for their mascot.

I liked the old/original plastic/acrylic keyboard that came with my first gen MacPro. however they are alittle clunky sometimes compared to some other keyboards, but theyre dynamically better for typing.

I would have much preferred instead of the plastic&aluminum keyboard apple went with, to one that resembled the MacBookPro design, those keys are so fit and comfortable, but maybe more in a design like this:
http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/ke.../4429&cl=us,en

(not an all black keyboard, but the way its thinly designed yet dynamic and ergonomic)

i had to use the thin keyboard at work and its just not working for me, no matte rhow i had my wrist rest or the height of my chair or how far or clsoe the keyboard was, it was completely uncomfortable for me.

and the MightyMouse, please.....fix! change! do something.

I have been struggling with this conundrum for a while now. I have a non-bluetooth enabled laptop (seriously and it isnt even that old) that I use with "standit" (www.standit.com) in the office and a wireless mighty mouse (I have a mini bluetooth receiver in my wired alu Apple keyboard).

I love typing on the keyboard but like other wish there was a full size wireless option as I do use the number pad a fair amount at times (I am an accountant).

Having done a few more google searches I thought I might be able to get a wireless number pad that did not require a dedicated dongle and thankfully have now found this: a bluetooth numberpad.
So I thinking for my work set up I can have the wireless mini keyboard and the wireless number pad and a mighty mouse - only taking up the one usb port on the laptop with my mini bluetooth dongle (which I wouldnt have to remove as it really is tiny).

This would give me the flexibility I need and I can then hide the number pad if writing a report rather than working on figures.

I do a heap of travel as well so might even take the standit and keyboard to assist when I am in offices with crappy ergonomics.

I've got one, too. Don't really use it any more (but did buy an ADB-to-USB adapter a couple years ago), but still one of the best.

I love My Old Keyboard

I really love the old keyboard, i have the new one.... and i want to trade it!!!!

I love the new keyboard. It's so much quieter to type with compared to the previous ones. Much easier on the fingers too.

I hope the new Macbook Pros have similar style keyboards, otherwise I will be sad.

Get it.

Get it, it is really nice and works great from even a distance. I use it to control my mac pro while watching movies in Front row. It is very cool.

My wireless keyboard died after 4 months usage.

Yesterday, I started using it again and got the warning the batteries were low. I replaced them late last night and now today, the keyboard is dead. I replaced the batteries again and it still doesn't work.

I guess I gotta head to the Apple store this week. :(
