I still use a 3rd Gen iPod Touch as my Alarm clock!

Battery seems to be dying now, not a straightforward swap from what I've read.

Yes. I still use my 3g 64GB iPod Touch all the time. Still works great for listening to music and browsing the web. The only issue I have is that I'm running 5.1.1 (the highest version it supports) and nearly half of my apps require iOS 6 or higher. My plan is to use it until it dies and then get a new Touch.

Since I travel for business a lot now I use it as an alarm clock too.

My car only accept iPods with the 30-pin dock connector.
I have the same issue. I'm thinking about getting an iPod Classic just for my car.

I have an iPod Touch 4G running on 6.1.3.

I'm really hoping that they release a new iPod touch as I don't want to get an iPad bc it'll instantly become a family iPad XD

fingers crossed :D

I Have The Exact Same Problem!

Hey guys, I am kinda curious to see if folks here still have older iPod Touches, such as the 4th or 3rd gen. What iOS it is on? Does it lag for you? Do you have battery issues?

I am on 6.1.6 with a 4th gen and my battery is pretty weak, drains fast, especially when playing games/watching youtube. And it lags pretty bad, even without a jailbreak. I am thinking of downgrading to iOS 5.1.1

:apple:I've had my iPod Touch 4th Generation 8Gb for 4 years (Since it came out)
And there are two problems that developed over that period of time Battery life shortage & Processing has slowed down SO BAD that it literally closes me out of apps Repeatedly.

I have an opinion for only one of the problems
Replace the battery PROFESSIONALLY
But as for the second problem... it would require replacing the A Chip which is soldered to the motherboard and extremely hard to get off without proper equipment.
if you can find a place to do this Please email me.:apple:

I use a 4th generation iPod Touch 8 Gb (would like 64 Gb one) and it works very well for VLC and TV show watching.

Sold mine 4th generation ipod touch and got a 3rd generation ipod touch 32gb for my lossless music. Also got a 5th gen ipod touch 32 gb too. Both are great for all that music I got.

When iOS 6 came out, it messed up my fourth gen iPod touch so I had it replaced under AppleCare and then I sold the replacement to buy the first of the few fifth gens that I have and still use. That said, I still have my third gen and last I used it, it ran iOS 5.1.1 well. I wouldn't load any (otherwise still-compatible [with iOS 5.1.1]) games unless they're pretty low-key or even older, but to use for music and videos via the stock apps, it's not too bad as I recall the reason why I went to the fourth gen in the first place was that I wanted the cameras, microphones, retina display, and other such niceties.

Nope. Some of my friends have them but that's only because they can't afford to upgrade. I don't see why you would continue to use technology from 2010.

I can afford a 100 iPods, but my wife still uses a first generation. She also has an iPhone 5s and a retina iPad. She uses her iPod touch strictly for music at the gym or out in the back yard. What the hell is a new iPod going to get her?

He probably didn't ,mean for just music, he meant for the whole experience. An iPod touch first gen does not support many apps.

I still use my iPod Touch 4th Gen, even replaced the battery recently.

It's essentially my travel clock, calculator, weather update, etc. Just minor things as I don't have a cell phone (didn't want to spend $100/month).

Did you replace yourself, or send to a 3rd party vendor for replacement?

I sent it to iResQ though I can't recommend them as they broke a wire inside the iPod going to the power button so I had to send it back to them to replace that.

My iPod Touch 4 is only a little better than a small brick at this point. Neither of the mechanical buttons work. It can't download any apps. It can't run the apps it has without crashing constantly (Facebook, Instagram). It can't even play music without messing up. It has a hard time connecting to anything via USB. I'm nursing it along, but I really wish they'd come out with the 6 already. No use spending a **** ton of money on a 5 that is already obsolete.

I have a iPod Touch 4G that hasn't bene used in just about a year. The battery life was pretty bad when using anything with WiFi. I probably have a iPod Touch 2G somewhere as well.

iPod 4th Generation a charm

I currently have a 4th Generation iPod 64 Gig. Funny story 2 summers ago, (32 Gig iPod)I totaled it with a nasty fall and the motherboard also failed ironically at the same time. I used my money from the total loss to purchase a iPod 4th Gen 64 Gig

I still use it on a daily basis (have owned for a year I believe it was pampered by its last owner) and, it is running iOS 6.1.6. It's doing a great job and, I have little lag.

I may have a iPhone 4S too but, the battery on it is failing:mad: and, I have not have time to replace it so, I use my iPod most of the time. :D

Still using an old 2nd Gen 32gig model for an app called SleepStream (new baby and I'm awake a lot during the night) and some lossless albums. While it's fine, the few apps I have on it are very old versions and are clunky compared to their newer versions.

Still have a 4th gen with 6. whatever and besides not running the latest the battery lately is plummeting if I forget about the wifi. Talking in minutes not hours.

Same Problem; iPod was totaled

I had that problem with my iPod Touch 4th Gen 32 Gig running 6.1.4 back in 2013. It had to of been almost 4 years old too!

So, I was away on vacation to a summer camp in 110+ degree weather. During the bus ride down to camp, my iPod would stop playing music and, had to be held up to a fan to get it to work again.

During a pitstop to a DC museum, It suffered a nasty fall which cracked the screen and, shot the power button. Then, it developed abnormal battery drain and I was unable to keep it charged due to the lack of outlets at my camp. With internet research, I found out that my iPod displayed the symptoms of a faulty motherboard and, the shot battery probably made my situation worse!

It needed constant AC to keep working (and have sound comming out of my headphones and/or my iPod's speakers). When I returned home, I sent it away to a repair shop and, it was declared totaled :( ! On the bright side, I used the money from my warranty to purchase a 4th Gen 64 Gig. :D With proper care, I expect it to last 4-5 years:)

Same. Even though i have a iPod, iPhone and a iPad, my iPod is for maximizing my the battery life while I am out without an accessible charger.

My life happens on my iPhone and, if it dies, I will not be able to contact anyone if there is no wifi connection.

Yes ipod touch 4G connected to my onkyo stereo.
ios 6
Yep it lags a LOT.
Yes i do but because it is connected to the stereo it is constantly recharging.
I only use it for listening to music, and spotify but sadly because it is ios 6 i can only use a deprecated spotify version, is a pain.

Ugh, yeah those A8 based iOS devices were slow as dirt by the end. They only seemed relatively fast I think the summer they launched LOL

A9 based iOS devices are really sluggish now too, although I can't say they're as bad as the A8 ones were even a few years ago. And my A9 based Nexus 7 was slow as dirt, while the exact same CPU/GPU running Windows feels pretty peppy.

ipod touch 4g was the first one with a retina display, i remember when it was brand new i played hero of sparta on it, pretty nice but right now almost a piece of junk is. Still have a use but only for very patient people because of the lag.

I remember it often took multiple seconds just to respond to things like pausing audio LOL.

EDIT: I guess Apple is done with the iPod touch... that 4th gen one was underpowered it launched, and the 5th launched late, and then needed to be updated at least the next year. Meanwhile the iPad mini SOOOORT of fits in a pocket, I guess? And the price kind of overlaps with the iPod, soooo maybe the iPad mini is the new iPod touch?
