I probably would if I did't dissemble it. Bwhahahahahahahah. One day it just wouldn't turn on, even plugged it. I have a Mini 1 so i was just like "eh. Its old so. Why fix. But now I'm kinda mad I broke it.

My sister was using her iPod touch 4th gen with iOS 6.1.6 full time until Christmas. She would complain all the time of apps crashing, even the Apple apps. She said it ran so slow. She received an iPad Air 2 for Christmas so she only uses the touch for music on the go now.

3rd gen. 64gb iPod bought in January 2010.
IOS 4.3.5 (always feared that IOS 5 could eventually turn it into a brick)
About 13500 songs (very little space left)
Always and only used for music playback.
Always let the battery drain to zero and recharged completely.
Still rocking 16 hours (240/260 songs in shuffle mode) playback between charges that happen one time a week, usually on Sunday.

Downgrade is definitely worth it (better battery and surprisingly runs smother) IMO.
Only downside to my iPod Touch 4th Gen is that I find I can only delete songs off my iPod on the device. If I remove them on iTunes they are still there.

Did I find the unlimited storage option?

Hey guys, I am kinda curious to see if folks here still have older iPod Touches, such as the 4th or 3rd gen. What iOS it is on? Does it lag for you? Do you have battery issues?

I am on 6.1.6 with a 4th gen and my battery is pretty weak, drains fast, especially when playing games/watching youtube. And it lags pretty bad, even without a jailbreak. I am thinking of downgrading to iOS 5.1.1

Cheers! King.

I'm using my ipod 4g daily from 2 years now, it came on ios 6.1.2 and is still on that firmware due to use evasi0n jailbreak which is very stable.
lags a little and is starting to get weak battery life, but is normal since is used almost for 700 days now. I wish I could have 5.1.1 blobs, ios 5 is faster on this device but I'm fine considering that I'm able to use tons of apps on ios 6.
sometimes I even use my ipod 2 which is still having a strong battery life on 4.2.1, it can downgrade to 3.1.3 but these days ios 3 looks like a true dinosaur :)

If we're OK with calling an IpT5 "older" despite being the latest iteration, then yes. However, this works somewhat well for me since I have a Samsung Galaxy s4 I use as my phone, GPS, internet, email, some games, and general "workhorse". The IpT5 has long been relegated to "handheld gaming" status. Even then, some of the games seem to take longer to load and go through then if I did have the updated specs of an Iph.

I have an older 2nd Gen iPod Touch that I use only for music in my car. Had to resurrect it when someone decided to help themselves to my iPod Classic and GPS from my car. I don't recall the version iOS I have on it. I do know it's way old! I remember buying it when I wasn't sure I wanted or needed an iPhone. For it's time, I loved the iPod Touch and it's capabilities so much that I went out and picked up an iPhone 3GS. Go figure!!

If my Ipod Classic got swiped, I'm buying another Ipod Classic to replace it. Without hard buttons, an IpT doesn't really work as a music player for me. Plus, the 80 GB capacity is nice to know it's there.

Had thought about it. It all happened around the time the Classic was being phased out and I didn't want to spend the $ on a replacement whether new or used. I had the Touch lying around and opted to give it a try and it worked. I have an Alpine unit in my car with iPod controls so everything is controlled from the radio. The only annoyance is that for some reason, it won't charge the Touch whereas it would charge the Classic.

After reading your post, I just for fun tried to start my first generation iPod Touch. It didn't wake up though, even when plugged in. :)

Don't know actually why I never sold it.

I recently bought two of them (a black 64GB and a white 32GB) refurbished from the online Apple Store with the intention of installing absolutely no apps, not even "last compatible" versions (though I might renege on that with the 32GB one) and just using them as iPods that happen to have iMessage, E-mail, and FaceTime capabilities as well as the ability to download purchased media from the iTunes Store sans a computer.

As for speed with iOS 6.1.6, yeah, I'd imagine it sucks, however doing a complete DFU restore and a fresh reinstallation of 6.1.6 through iTunes will definitely give you back some of that lost speed. Similarly, I'd imagine that, unless they were as stupid with it as they were with iOS 5.1.1 on the first generation iPad, the stock apps should run fine. But, yeah, if you're looking to use it for apps and as an iPhone-lite, it'll probably be a massive disappointment no matter how you spin it.

Hi folks!

I'm still an owner of an 1st gen Ipod touch... Few days ago I excavated my Ipod and charged the battery.. Then I've seen there are still several photos on it.. Tried to copy them on pc, but connected with pc there are no photos on the Ipod.. Can anyone help me? The photos are on the Ipod but unfortunately the pc can't detect them... Don't want to lose these pics :/

I have an iPod touch 4g that I've been using for about 4.5 years now. I could put up with the slow slow slow functioning if the battery would last longer. I got myself a 6g and this one is going to my sister to use as a 'brag book' - 7 grandchildren means a lot of photos.

If you've got wifi, maybe you could try emailing them to yourself? That would only work if they're small enough, but the camera...hmm...wait, I don't think it had a camera...well anyway maybe that would work?

I have owned an iPod Touch 4th Generation, 64 gig since Christmas 2011. It served as my primary mobile device for its first year and half while I still owned a flip phone. After I bought my first iPhone, it was eventually moved into my car where it usually plays via the USB connection. It lives there and plays over 5000 songs through my car stereo as I drive. I use it every day in that capacity. I get it out once and awhile when I need to update the music library or use it to play audiobooks. I actually like that it is stuck on iOS 6. It seens to be a more reliable music player.

Yeah thought about to mail them.. but 420 photos :S It has no camera.

How did these pics get on there if it has no camera? And can iTunes do anything for you?

Same way I had pictures on my 2nd gen iPod nano. One way is that you can sync folders and albums through iTunes, such as an iPhoto library or just a folder of pictures on your PC.

Another way is the iPod touch runs iOS, so you can take screen shots, save images from Mail or anywhere on the internet via Safari or various other apps. I had thousands on my 2g and 3g touch without a camera.

@buga, If they are in the camera roll they should show up in Windows explorer (mount as camera/media device) or Image Capture on a Mac. If they were synced from a computer, you may be able to get them off with a file explorer. This should be even easier if it's on iOS 3 since those apps still worked well back then. Otherwise iTunes can't sync photos that were put there from another computer. But you might be able to use something like Dropbox to upload all 400 of them if you can get the app working that is. Perhaps mailing the ones you really want out of the stack would do the job? Also, iTunes usually resized images to a lower resolution for use on mobile devices. So they may not be the same quality of the originals.

I put the pictures with itunes from another pc on the Ipod three years ago. Now with another pc, Itunes knows there are photos on it, but Windows explorer can't see the synced photos just the saved screenshots..
Should I try it with the old pc? I still have it..

I haaaaaate that iOS 7 forces you to use the abominable Podcasts program for podcasts! Windows Phone 8 almost syncs with iTunes better (though that's more of a compliment about how well their syncing app works than anything, but still, Apple's "podcasts" is a horrible program, and playback in "music" was awesome!)
