Don't think this one's documented in the manual...
Also, i don't have a touch and only saw this vid on YouTube, which i can't find anymore..

Anyway, here it is.. when typing, hold your finger on the delete key and while still holding, drag left on the screen to delete multiple characters, if you delete too many just drag back in the opposite direction and the delete will be undone.
Haven't had a chance to try this one for myself, so let me know how it goes.

EDIT:
Sorry, just found the Video.. Here's a link: Delete Feature

Also, i came across this video, not really a tip, more of a bug, but maybe someone will be able to put it to good use: Link
Basically a way to rotate photos...

both excellent, thanks! :)

PLAYING WEB GAMES WITHOUT WI-FI CONNECTION...

Some good tips so far dudes, keep 'em coming.

Here is my little thing i found, which i really like.... some of you have probably already discovered this...

________________________________________________

-When in wi-fi range, open an iphone/ipod touch web-game (i luurve bejeweled and it works with this tip)

-Let safari load the page completely, and run the game

-You can hide safari and play music, vids, whatever, but don't close the page with the game on it

-When you are somewhere without wi-fi, you can still play the game (for a limited time, until it needs to load again.)
___________________________________________________________________

I get about 30-90mins of bejewed playing time outside wifi with this 'trick', which is great for me, as my hometown doesn't have many wifi hotspots.

This obviously only works with some games, as some need to constantly load new data. But from what i can see, bejewled, tetris, and at least a dozen others work.

Hope that my little tip is helpful to some of you.

Oh yeah, here's the url for bejeweled... http://static.popcap.com/iphone/

Well it isn't really a way to rotate, you are just telling the accelerometer to stop haha, as soon as you rotate back they go back to the way they were to begin with.

If you have your touch plugged in to your computer you can listen to music in cower flow view without the iPod locking or even turning of the screen.
I like it.

Edit: Also works when running safari. Need to play music and be plugged to the comp still.

Edit2: Me so stupid... If you have it plugged and your playing music it woun't lock, whatever you do. Ain't that right...

Sorry, like i said, i don't have an iPod touch...yet... so i was unable to test them before posting. Should have it by the middle of the month though, well, i hope so :D
That one was more of a bug than an undocumented feature, i guess, so you're right.

Oh I understood it isn't your fault, but I was just letting other people know that it doesn't really rotate and save the rotation.

Make Safari easier to see

I am having a hard time reading some of the web pages even if I change the direction.
I just realized yesterday that I can make the part of the web page that I wan to see larger.
By doing what they tell you will work on the photos but it also works on Safari.
Put your two fingers together on the part to enlarge and spread them.

you can also double tap on various areas of the page to have that section zoom in tight, which is nice when trying to click on small links or read fine text

Thanks for posting, but let's try and keep this for undocumented features, as the thread name says. ;)

C'mon dudes, gotta be some more out there...

...oh wait, i thought of another one:

JAILBREAK IT!!!!! :D

...i don't think that was in the manual.....could be wrong....:D:p:D

When your listening to a podcast and you turn it sideways to look for music in coverflow, the podcast's image is temporarily added to the end of your coverflow so that you can go back to it if you don't switch to an album.

It would be a neat feature (for those with many podcasts) to be able to look at just podcasts in coverflow.

I know it's been posted, but double-clicking the home button to bring up the music controls while in another app has truly become a must-know function. I use it ALL the time!

I've tried this repeatedly and cannot get it to work. What on Earth?? Is this fake or hacked or something? Has anyone else managed to get this to work?

One more thing: don't suppose anyone knows of a way to view 'more details' on the battery life remaining. It would be quite intuitive to click on the battery icon in the corner but that doesn't work.

When you first buy the Touch you have a free screen protector (should suffice until there are finally some nice cases in the stores) basically unwrap the outer clear plastic cover and there is another piece of film over the screen that also covers the sync port. I used an Xacto blade and trimmed the small flap of plastic from the sync port and it has protected the screen well so far.

The screen isn't going to scratch. It's made out of extremely scratch resistant glass... I don't think you have to carry your iPod around with that flimsy plastic on it as if it's going to protect it. I've already tried scratching mine with keys and nothing happens.

Agreed. I just noticed that last night and realized how much I would also like to see the duration of a podcast is before I listen to it

Also you can make your iPod touch think it's an iphone by setting a passcode (don't forget it, or you'll spend hours reimporting music after a system restore) under settings->general and then putting your ipod to sleep. if you enter the passcode wrong 6 times, it will say "iPhone is disabled
try again in 1 minute"

Reply: i found out because I was Curiuos that the Itouch will Be Disabled for 1 min after 5 or six times and then if you get it wrong once more just once it's five minutes and then one more wrong answer its 15 minutes and then one more wrong answer it's 1 hour after that every wrong answer is another hour of disablement.

Everything mentioned here is in the Features Guide ( http://manuals.info.apple.com/en/iPod_touch_Features_Guide.pdf ).

Read the guide and do a search; educate yourself.

The OP asked about UNdocumented features or tricks.

The only ones I can think of offhand are the tilted picture thing I posted and the thing in Notes where it will NOT let you type an "e" after "Theyr". You can enter any letter BUT an "e". This one is likely an Easter Egg.

Here's one I found by accident today. If you unplug your headphones (or casette adaptor) it automatically pauses the music you were listening to.

Was that in another version of iPod? I never noticed if it was.

Yeah, that feature has been in the previous iPods. Pretty cool..

OK. Try this. When you are in portrait view listening to a song, you can swipe your finger to the right; thus bringing you "back" to the artist's songs..
Ok. Try this. When you are in your movies pane, swipe your finger to the right, over the name to give you the option to delete the movie..

Honestly, it boggles my mind when people on this forum hijack threads and try to be funny.. I mean the OP asked a question, the willing should answer him, not make "lame" jokes..

the iPod Touch can also be... a hat.

*cough - family guy reference - *cough

BWAH! hilarious. It's funny because before I even saw that second sentence I read the first one in a Peter Griffin voice.

Anywho, one thing I found out that came in use was if your typing something somewhere and you need all caps, hold down the ^ as if it were a shift key and type away. For awhile I thought that I had to go back to the settings and activate "CapsLock" in order to do this.

I just found this list of 17 iPhone/iPod touch functionalities that can be added via bookmarklets. Of particular interest to me are:

- Find text within a webpage
- Open link in new window

http://www.lifeclever.com/17-powerful-bookmarklets-for-your-iphone/

:)

That is the handiest thing in this whole post yet, thanks for the info.

Also:
1) In the stocks application, the price of crude oil is the symbol "CLJ08.NYM" and the price for gold in US dollars is "XAUUSD=X" (user davidy brought this up)
2) I love webapps, but what is handy is data:urls...some webapps can be saved using them. There is a webapp that does them...someone wanna provide that? I have a guitar chord webapp saved like that.
3) The twitter is actually pretty handy (the little speaker for alarms)
4) Turn off the wi-fi to save power, and put brightness to a minimum and turn autobrightness on for even more powersaving.

When you are scrolling on a webpage and want to scroll a webpage but don't want the webpage moving side to side ( example: when you are zoomed in on a column of text to read a story but don't want to hover over ads) just double tap, hold and scroll up or down and you will not move from the column of text your reading.
