Well I convinced myself that I wouldn't be getting one when it was first announced, but that's mostly because I can't wear it to work (that will likely change by the time gen 2 comes out).

But for me it's kind of working the opposite. I feel nearly the same way about the watch as I did the iPad. i.e. I think it's very pretty and flashy, but also kind of a disappointment, and I'm not sure how much practical use it would be for me. But then over time the anticipation builds.

If/when I were to get an Apple Watch I'm 90% sure I'll go 42mm sport model and then if eventually I decide I want to dress it up for special occasions I'll buy the milanese loop.

Out of interest, why can't you wear it to work?

I briefly went the other way.

I started off not wanting it at all on the basis that I'd never wear it over any of my collection of Swiss mechanicals and it looks too much like a watch to wear on my other wrist as the same time.

If it had looked more like a fitness band then I'd have been all over it.

Since the last presentation I found myself wondering if, instead of a 42mm stainless-steel w/ Milanese loop (which is the only setup I think is aesthetically tolerable), maybe a 38mm space-grey sport on a black rubber strap would be suitably discrete/fitness-band like that I could get away with it.

Will have to see it on my wrist to know.

Had the watches been available that week, we'd already be past try-on/pre-order and by the time I'd be able to get one I'd have lost interest again.

I've been looking forward to it for months, but now I've decided I'm going to pass. It's really not worh it for the price they're charging, no matter how much marketing BS Apple put on the website. Hand brushed links etc...

It's funny how people justify the £200 upgrade from sport to SS based on the saphire screen. How much more would they be willing to pay for an iPhone 6 with a sapphire screen? £1200?

The downside of Apple's extra long window between announcement and pre-orders is the potential loss of impulse shoppers like me. After the announcement in September I was stoked. After the announcement this month I was ready to go buy a Watch the same day. I would even have been thrilled if pre-ordering was starting at the end of this week. However, I am being given enough time to cool down -- not that I won't get the Watch, but I'm getting more 'meh' about it -- I never needed to have it and now I just want it -- not WANT it.

Anybody else losing the sense of euphoria?

Apple does make a lot of money off impulse sales. They pander to people's emotion very successfully.

An awful lot of Apple's user base are emotionally connected to Apple, it's served this giant goliath of a corporation very well for many years.

Apple is the master of power and control. One look at their bottom line proves their expertise... :)

I do wonder if there will be a flat AFTER buying it.

I totally get an iMac, so much you can do with it.
I totally get an Macbook, so much you can do with it.
I totally get an iPhone, so much you can do with it.
I totally get an iPad, so much you can do with it.
I totally get an iPod Touch, so much you can do with it.

Apple watch..... hmmmm, well there are "some things" it can do.

I wonder how long it will take to be a bit, dull, well I've played with all the bits it comes with, and now I am just wearing it and ignoring it.

I'm still doing most things on my phone.

Wonder if that's going to happen to many, it will lose it's sparkle due to lack of being much really use pretty quick. Simply due to it being so limited, esp. for most of this year until Apple allows devs to be more creative.

I do wonder if Apple will wait till the next version, with better battery life before they let devs do much, as anything heavy is going to kill the battery so we hear and make the watch look bad, so perhaps apple simply won't let that happen, till they can offer a device that can "take it" so to speak?

Buying a brand new device. Apple watch now, and from day one, just going with 10 second views of stuff, does not exactly sound that exciting to maintain a wow factor past the 1st week.

Yeah, I think I can safely let others be the early adopters this time and give it half a year or so. Very interested how they'll deal with the daily charging.

Exactly! Apple invites us to talk to a rep using Chat, but they know nothing. I initiated a couple of chats. I asked what the black rod in the middle of the digital crown is made of, and they don't know. I asked the price of Apple Care+, composite back vs. ceramic back, what is in the composite? If the four sensors need constant skin contact or just be close to the wrist. They didn't know.

And there's no watches out there for the journalists to review!

The thing that is really making me lose interest is that we've heard pretty much nothing, and no new information about any new apps that are supposed to come out and really push it over the edge.

So while I still want one, I'm no longer thinking I want a SS, and maybe by pre-order time I may just decide to wait and see what kind of apps come out and not buy it until I've read the reviews.

If Apple were smart, they'd keep the information flow going; tease new apps and show more use-case videos.

Whilst I'm disappointed by the long wait it's by no means put me off and I'm just as excited about getting o e now as I was when it was first announced. I'll be online on the 9th/10th to preorder it so I can hopefully get one of the first batch that ships out.

I originally wanted the SS with link for over $1000 on the day of the last event. Then a week or so ago I changed my mind to SS with Milanese for $749 or whatever it costs.

Now, just today, I've decided to get the basic sport for $349. I realized it's a fun extra thing to have for me and I am not comfortable spending that much just yet.

The base model will let me try it out and maybe buy a new band or next years model if I really like it.

I think once the pre-order window opens up, there will be a rush for orders, so your cooling desire for the watch may be reignited.

Two points, one serious.

1. I will not be buying an Apple Watch. This is because I will have died from a heart attack with the stress of having to wait for the bloody thing and having nothing else to do but talk about it to you lot on here.

2. The wait is leading some of us into a frenzy of excitement that may lead to massive anticlimactic disappointment with the real thing once we actually get it.

I agree with your second point, as it kind of explains why I felt so "meh" after getting my iPhone 5, despite being insanely excited for it. Imo, there wasn't enough cooling down period between the reveal and actual release. At least with the Watch, our excitement will have subsided a bit more, potentially making it more exciting once we actually do get it.

Wow, that was confusing for me.

Anyway, although my excitement for the Watch has cooled a bit, I feel it "spark" every time I use my original Pebble. To me, the Pebble hasn't become a toy that I have no interest in after a few weeks. I actually depend on it now to receive notifications subtly as my phone has to remain on silent during class and at work. Since the Pebble is pretty basic when it comes to functions, I get stoked when I think of the MORE possibilities that the Apple Watch will open up for me (like replying to texts!!)

I do kinda agree. The day after the event, I was ready to pre-order, but the more I think about it the more I realise it's a Bluetooth-connected external display for my phone on my wrist. Handy? Sure. But not revolutionary.

I'll probably still buy one, but maybe try them on in store first.

Not entirely momentum but longer the wait, the longer I think the battery life is going to be an issue for me.

What's interesting about it? When I go to bed, I'll put it on charge. Pretty simple and uninteresting.

Well.

What's interesting is whether or not people will find enough usefulness in the Apple watch to keep charging on a daily basis, once the novelty wears off.

Having to charge daily means giving up convenience versus a conventional watch, or wearing none. If the watch is not genuinely useful sooner or later you'll see people return to more convenient habits.

That's why this is an interesting marker, in my view.

Don't worry, once they have them on display at Apple Stores, and you get some time to try one out, I think the desire will be plenty rekindled.

I'm pretty much set on getting one but plan to visit an Apple Store and get some quality time with one first. Wouldn't make a purchase like this without doing so.

But ever since the keynote, I find myself thinking about the watch every time my phone rings on the other side of the room, or I have to pull it out of my pocket to acknowledge/respond to a notification, etc. I know the watch will make my life a bit easier and more enjoyable.

I don't think this will be an issue for most. Charging daily may be a big change from conventional watches, but just about everyone has gotten used to the "daily charge" concept with their phones, and has a routine going and a charging spot on the counter or bedside ready to go. So adding a watch to the ritual will be no big deal at all. For those who are reasonably heavy users of their iPhone, the convenience of the watch will quickly pay off and radically exceed anything a regular watch does today.

No. But I wasn't getting one due to impulse.

Bingo.

I get more and more enthused as the days tick by.

Do you sleep with your watch on? Most people don't. As long as it lasts all day (which it will) multi-day battery life is superfluous for the overwhelming majority of people.

I think it's a bit harsh blaming the reps for that. They're not really any more informed than us, and certainly won't have used the watch yet.

They're more there for the simpler things I think - questions that most of us on here would know the answer to anyway.

That came out wrong on my part. I wasn't blaming the reps. I was blaming Apple for not having them trained! It seems Apple is not prepared for this. Maybe they're not really ready, and pushing out the AW to meet the "early 2015" deadline.

Fair enough. But I don't think they're ever that prepared for any new product, it's nothing new really :p

I'm not losing any momentum at all. I like the time before the product is officially released. That's when I return to these forums to see what everybody's talking about, accessories, comparisons, the PDF cutouts that people make to see which size you want to get, etc.
